    Just keep at it brother. I know a lot of people don't respect what you're doing,but I do. I hope that's worth something. People don't know how hard working a farm is. They have never driven across rough ass land for sixteen hours,and then got out in a cold or steaming hot field and crawled through the mud and grime, then lay down in it and fix something for hours, just to get back in and drive for hours.
    Keep on going. I wish I was there to help. I'm crippled now,but my spirit is with you.

    I had to watch this because I have never seen a track tractor pulling a little round baler. Maybe using huge tractors to pull small equipment could be a cool idea for future videos.

      Eli Schultes that is a legitimate concern. You have to skip a couple windrows when you turn around.

      Hugh Marcus you certainly ain't. It's just stupid putting so much hp on something that can be run by a MF4708 (80hp) but a 100hp tractor in America seems to be a ridiculously small tractor even tho our biggest tractor is 115hp and runs everything from barley bruiser to 14 tonne silage wagon. We got a new to us 10ft mower at the start of the season and it made the tractor grunt on our hills but you need to work a tractor to keep its engine healthy.

    I am near 60 years old, and I swear to God the weather forecasting was more accurate when I was a child.
    They can't seem to even predict two days ahead anymore, you look at a forecast, make a plan and wake up the next morning to a different forecast.

      Very true! In fact; that nasty storm that blew through on Sunday while we were trying to bake just came out of nowhere. Nobody was predicting that even an hour in advance.

      Here comes the climate change conspiracy theorist picking one point out of a video to try to prove their outlandish ideas. You missed the point he made about having the previous 5 or 6 years being wonderful haying weather. I've been farming for 30 years and odd years like this one happen every 7 to 10 years. It's not a new pattern and it's been going on since day 1.

    Always remember all those square bales that I picked up, hauled and stacked in some of the most stuffy, no air barns in SE Kansas in early July. Every bale needed to be in out of the weather according to Dad, until I went to college. After I left the round baler appeared and it was fine to stack hay outside in the weather and no need to wear hip waders in early Spring when haying the cattle.

    Shame the tedder has not got some sort of system were as the grass is done another machine behind it puts stainless steel ground spikes into the ground in twos in two lines with a plastic weather proof cover like a long tunnel over the grass so the rain can't wet the grass rows and the wind can't blow it away? But it still lets some air through to dry the cut grass! Then when you have to bale it, the tractor pulling the baler has a machine on the front that takes up the tunnel and removes the spikes in a rolling up way ready to be used next time? Just a idea.

    I still dont quite understand why you use the variabel chamber in the US. Here in norway we use the solid chamber on the baler, we bale wet, normal and hay and im willing to bet we get a better bale. Especially when we use the acid on the bales aswell. Im not trying to sound harsh or anything, but we bale about 20-30thousand bales in a year, and the variabel chamber has never catched on here in Europe.

    • @dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206
      @dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My only experience with a solid chamber baler was an ably 20 years ago an old fellow who baled for us had one. It was an Owatonna I think.that thing made the worst bales I’ve ever seen. They were flat on the bottom a few minutes after he dumped. The core was so soft you couldn’t pick them up with a spear or the whole bale would come apart. You had to move them with pallet forks. Maybe they have gotten better over time. I haven’t seen one in forever.

      Dodge Brothers Farm and Ranch we run 5 mchale fusion 3 combi balers (baling and wrapping in one go) and we have 3 single balers mchale. The weather in our region is never good for farming. It rains when it's time to harvest but after we start planting, we don't get any rain for 3 months. The plants do not germinate on time and when they do, it is very cold. Wheat has no problems with this but we haven't harvested canola for 3 or 4 years

    Thank you for recording this disaster I'm a hay for farmer in Southern Illinois,I've recorded some videos on my own as Midwest former but I haven't had the time to download them every time I turn around in about every hour I've got another issue to take care of, I had cut first cutting hay and the storm came in and took all the hay that was cutting One direction and crisscrossed it across my feel like a checkerboard. These piles are impossible to rake. I took my tatter and level 2 filled out that way as much as I possibly can.I went through a drought in 2011 and was on CBS world news. At that time I never knew about geoengineering. I was looking for replacement crops for alfalfa I ran across aluminum resistant seeds from Monsanto. That's how I found out about geoengineering it's very much real we need to get the word out there and put up a fight to stop this it is controlling the weather.for more information lookup geoengineering watch buy Dane wigington a very incredible man that I've met.

      Craig Simon I can’t say for sure. The tachometer hasn’t worked for a long time. It was overhauled about ten years ago and probably has about 1,000 hours on the overhaul. It has a much easier life now than when I was a kid. Dad pulled the planter with it and sprayed with it and hauled manure and chisel plowed with it.

  • @250000yota1
    @250000yota1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Forgive my ignorance, but my dad has always run a smaller operation with older equipment, but how exactly does the discbine condition the hay? All of our swathers have been older NH reel swathers with the press reels in the rear, the newest being a 1969 if memory serves correct. This all looks very new and interesting to me, but very cool nonetheless.

    • @dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206
      @dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I didn’t do a very good job of explaining that. The goal of the conditioning system is to break through the waxy outer layer of the stems to allow the moisture to escape more quickly. The crimpers on your dads mower do that by cracking the stems as they squeeze through the rollers. The impeller on our mower scrapes the hay against a hood that sits right above the impeller. That scrubbing action is what damages the outer layer of the stems. You can adjust the clearance between the impeller and the hood based on how thick your hay is. Most newer machines still have the roller crimpers because the impeller system is a little hard on alfalfa leaves so it is more suited to grassy hay.

    • @250000yota1
      @250000yota1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, very cool. Thanks for the explanation. And great video by the way. I can’t remember how many times we’ve raced the rain, but it’s definitely easier to do hay here in Colorado with our drier climate.

    What size bales do you produce and does the wrapping keep them dry?

    • @dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206
      @dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We make 5x6 round bales (meaning they are 5 feet wide and 6 feet in diameter). The plastic net wrap doesn’t keep them completely dry, but it keeps them far better than twine wrapped bales. The rain water tends to follow the plastic down the sides of the bale instead of just soaking into the hay.

    We use to make hay up until about 8 years ago before the gophers destroyed all our hay land and we have a matador swath turner which worked very well when the hay got rained on and even for a thick swath and if the top was dry we’d turn in in the morning and not even a full day later it would be dry enough to bale. A very good investment! Try it out I think you’d be happy with the results.

    You can not have rain for three or more months but as soon as you cut hay for baling your bound to cop at least a inch of rain. It’s the same for when ya gotta round up a mob of sheep for shearing them. No rain for two months, you round em up, get em I the yards, the shearering team is due the next day and down it comes. Time and time again it’s happened on our place. Five thousand wet sheep that can’t be shorn till they dry out. That’s farming though I guess.

    • @dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206
      @dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a great question! We have a bunch of regular customers that need dry hay and can’t use silage. Also, we don’t have enough room to keep all the winter hay at the feedlot. We need to haul from the stack in the field a couple times each winter. So, we can’t inline wrap it and we have no method of moving individually wrapped bales.
