I appreciate how Ryan's voice drops to a near whisper when he is wrapping the delicate roots of the main tree. Mirai is truly the future of American bonsai! Thank you for making us all more bonsai literate by the day!

I would have loved to see this bonsai forest a year later. If it all worked out wonderfully, cool. If parts of the forest didn't work, it would be important to learn how to fix the problems. I like the whole idea that each tree has its own place. If one of the trees were lost, it would be easier to replace that ONE tree. Most forests are planted as one unit. I would imagine it would be very difficult to replace a tree that doesn't make it. On my bucket list, I've replaced hang gliding with creating a bonsai forest. As I have aged, I doubt that creating a bonsai forest would kill me. This one is so interesting. I, however would not consider a forest at this massive scale for the same reason owning a horse has dropped from my bucket list: Horses are rather expensive and, where the heck would I keep it??? Great video! Thanks!

Great vid, would recommend if using the area where you cleaned up the roots to shoot from a different angle, dark object with light in the background will make the camera really struglge to pick up any detail.

i'd be interested to know in what way those trees were prepared. did you select them a lot of time in advance, preparing a flat root ball? did you try to achieve any sort of ramified apex before hand? or has this just come from a regular nursery?

I have just started and fallen in love with Bonsai after surviving a stroke so this is all new to me and I cannot thank you enough for all your videos, they have helped inspire and educate me! I find them educational and relaxing so its kind of therapeutical. It’s probably a stupid question but what Pliers are you using as they look different to the pliers I have seen online?

I hate to say this cause love the channel but the forest picture in nature the big tree is a muscle wood or Hornbeam. The smaller trees look like beech. They do look similar kinda with similar leaf structure but little differnt

I wish you could reply to videos with videos like the good old youtube. Making a forest composition that is really really really compelling is something that I am focusing on. There is a lot of potential in forest groups because of the large number of lines and how they play off of each other compared to a single tree composition. Wish I could show you one I just styled.

I have a question: what date are all the major (repotting) works done? Is it really January? Always hear about repotting works on root system at the time buds are swelling... Would be glad to get a reply :-)

What kind of wire is used here to anchor the stones to the pot and the trees to the stone? I know a wire with high tensile strength is required so i highly doubt Ryan is using aluminum.

Why the bright, back lit wall in the background when shooting the root preparation? With camera on auto exposure the aperture closes and the area of interest is actually way to dark to see what's going on. Makes for very poor footage.
