I pray that you have a full recovery, same thing happened to me, I'm 44 and mine started about 7yrs ago out the blue, I broke my nose, my jaw.. but the worst part is I lost my son cause it was only me and him living and I was having a seizure one night and he said I was choking him and of course the government stepped in and took him, which of course I prefer that than having him home and hurting him.....but it's hard and I miss my baby alot

I am 66 and have had tonic clonic Epilepsy since the age of 15. I know exactly how you feel. At first, I absolutely hated having Epilepsy. I just wanted to be normal like my friends at that time who were learning to drive. I have never driven since my Seizures have popped up over the years. Besides having Seizures, I live a pretty normal life. I thank God for the gift of my 2 children who are in their early 30s. I just live with my Epilepsy and take my medications. God Bless You. 🙏♥️

Thank you for all you do and the research all of you are involved in. If you haven’t discussed it or found out already can you find out and explain why small seizures cause such an emotional imbalance afterwards? The seizure itself is scary but not I’m struggling more with how to stay calm after it’s gone when my emotions feel like I have no control almost worse than a panic attack. I am so thankful for people out there like you. Words can’t describe how much of a difference you make. It’s hard enough but people like you are our light in this dark tunnel helping us.

Iam from Mauritius the medicines she iwas taking were lacosamide tegretal lamotrigine phenobarbital levetas and rivotril the seizures continued since no appropriate treatment was available she went to a hospital in India only Rivotril has been replaced by Frisium the seizures have stopped by 95% the only problem is she has to take medicine to pass stool. would be grateful to have your views since she also got dropfoot after the viral ancephatalitis.Hoping Insha Allah to hear from you

My husband is 84; he and his sister are both on Keppra. He takes 1000 milligrams every 12 hours; she takes 500 milligrams at bedtime. Everything I've seen so far is about young people. I need info about elderly.

    • @cathywestholt5324
      @cathywestholt5324 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

I'm 70 and have had epilepsy for 65 years now. My younger sister had it as a child, and a worse case than me. Somehow she "grew out" of it. No more seizures or need for meds. Then one day out of the blue when she was 56 I heard a sound from her room that sounded like someone having a seizure. I ran in, and she was having one. They put her in the hospital for a few days of testing. Nancy went back on seizure meds. She was taking a lower dose of Keppra. I take Keppra, lamotragine, and zonisimide. Keppra is the main one. I don't know what changed, but summer of last year I went from being well controlled to having very frequent myoclonic seizures, or at least the auras that would stop before going into the myoclonic jerks. We almost doubled my Keppra dosage. I am now up to 1,750mg twice a day along with the other two meds. This level seems to be working pretty well.
I don't know if your husband and his sister have the horrible mood side effects with Keppra with anger, rage, hostility, agitation, irritability, etc. It has that effect on me. The bad part is that I can't always recognize when it is presenting itself. I almost lost a job years ago when I started it because of the way I was treating my coworkers. I couldn't see that anything was happening. I had to start taking an antidepressant. I have been through several different ones over the years. When my doctor had to double my dose, I was afraid I would be a raging monster and not know it. I took a couple months off work to get stabilized. When I went back to work I asked my work partner to call me out if she observed any behavioral changes. I told her not to be afraid of hurting my feelings or anything. If I change I need to know so my doctor can increase my antidepressant. She was such a sweetheart to always support me through all of this.
But yeah....there are plenty of us old ducks out here with it and taking Keppra, too. I hope both do well. He is blessed to have a sweet, loving, supportive wife like you 💜💜💜💜

VNS has been done on me, but it doesn't TOTALLY control the seizures. When I have a seizure it is very short. Doesn't even last more than one minute. Usually around 10 to 15 seconds only. I still have to take medications: Briviact and Vimpat. It has caused vocal cord paraylaze. (spelling?) I can still talk just fine, so it is not bad. Just have to watch closely for years to see if I will need to end up having surgery on my vocal cords.

i have taken many seizure medications without success and my doctor has told me that epileptic surgery is only successful in a very very small percentage of patients. i have been forced to live with super painful and disabling grand mal seizures for 30 years, about 2-3/month. by the time i finally get over having a seizure i have another. a lot of times they result in injuries but not every time. trying to go to the er for the pain or inability to walk/move is pointless, most times they give me a 800mg ibuprofen (like trying to knock down a building by throwing a paper wad at it) and tell me to go home. this is not something i would wish on ANYONE WHATSOEVER (not my worst enemy or even satan himself) and i hope/pray NOONE EVER EVER HAS TO GO THROUGH THIS!!!!!!

I have JME and diet and sleep is VERY important. I just found out i have a gene variation that causes me to be sensitive to glutamates. I increased salts and decrease my glutamates by limiting high glutamate foods like aged cheese and processed foods. You can't avoid glutamates altogether, but you can lower your intake of particularly high foods. Due to my particular gene i also have to add lots of salt to my diet, but always check with your dr before trying that.
Keppra did not help me tho i cant remember if it was ineffective or had bad side effects. My dr has me on a very low dose of clobazam. Appearantly JME gets easier to treat as you age tho doesnt go away completely. My pharmacy sends my meds in dose paks to help me be diligent in taking my doses on time.
I also found GABA related medications can aggravate my seizures. This includes gabapentin and magnolia bark. If your son is on a GABA med you should talk to your dr about the possibility it could be triggering seizures and consider changing meds.
I hope these tips help! My 20s were rough but now im 43 and havent had a seizure in over a year. Keep trying! It can get better i promise!

Your enthusiasm for improving the quality of life for those with epilepsy, including PNES, is inspiring Doctor.
I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico where we have a teaching hospital at the University of New Mexico. And their neurology department is terrible, in all honesty.
They never provided the results of my EEG results to my neurologist following a suspected hemiplegic migraine which included a seizure. The EEG was in 2022!!
I am planning to make an appointment with you as you are in my insurance network and I am absolutely thrilled to see a medical professional so enthusiastic in helping his patients. Your help can potentially change my life and getting to Detroit to consult with you will be worth every penny.

I don’t know if it’s because of daily coffee, looking at the monitor for 30 minutes the night before, or stressed about war in Israel. Maybe all?
