    And I also love how MJ respected Larry so much. And talked about how much he learned from Larry. Especially how to be an amazing trash talker and get into people’s heads. And like I said in the last comment I made. I truly love how MJ always mentions Larry first as the person who he most wants to get to his level. Now obviously Larry played against MJ when Larry was in his prime, playing with several Hall of Famers and Mike basically played by himself. Mike obviously would have got Larry at some point if Larry could’ve stuck around. But I love Larry and Mike and the respect they had for each other. And it always pisses me off when Larry isn’t mentioned in the best players of all time conversation. And here’s what really kills me. Look at a D-bag like lebron. He has all the physical abilities that any athlete could hope for. Larry Bird doesn’t. But Larry Bird would massacre lebron. lebron should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Mike or LARRY!!! Larry is so far and away better than lebron. Larry doesn’t even come anywhere close to lebrons gifted athleticism but Larry would DESTROY lebron. And Larry wouldn’t have to even jump to do it.

    As a sport Basketball in general is a dynamic game and my tops! The NBA in particular reinforces that notion, imo. I feel blessed to have witnesses some of the NBA's very best top tier HOF players in their prime and some of the best team and player match ups of that ERA! Walt Frazier, Willis Reed, Bill Bradley, Larry Bird, McHale, Parrish, Chamberlain, West, Baylor, etc. The Knicks, Celtics, Sixers, Bulls, Pistons, Bucks, Lakers, and to a lesser degree, the Bullets, Blazers, Rockets, Suns and Sonics, put on some of the best televised matchups that, imo, were the most fiercely competitive and exciting games to watch! I love these vids. I was in college at BU in Boston, when Bird was in his prime and MJ just coming into the pros. When I graduated I moved to NY for med school (Cornell University). I would drive hours south to go see MJ, Bird, Magic, et. al., at Madison Square Garden. Then turn around and burn back to school. I did see some Celtic games...but they were hard to get tickets. With the Knicks, it was Ewing....another awesome player. Who basically carried the Knicks. So good tickets were easy to come by. I saw the Knicks vs. Bulls that was played on X-Mas day. Well worth missing some of x-mas. Me and my girlfriend (now my wife) moved down to seats. That were mid-court about 10 rows up. The ticket attendant was cool with it. Usually they kick you out of those seats. Just an awesome day, I will remember forever.
    After the holidays were over, wife and I back to school. She was living at in a different state...attending Veterinarian school. Wass a rough 8 years, due to different locals for school and residency's. But we made it. Thank YOU so MUCH for posting these Vids....Brings back some of the BEST Memories I have.

    • @juliothom2408
      @juliothom2408 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ngkilla3000, Jordan was a better scorer. He’s arguably the best scorer ever. But I WAS there. OBVIOUSLY, I did see his scoring with my own 2 eyes. Bird is arguably the best all around player ever. There is only 1 player in history that has career averages of 20/10/5, and it ain’t MJ. Bird was 24/10/6 career and 28/10/7 on close to 50/40/90 splits when MJ came to the League. MJ scored a lot, and lost a lot, throughout Larry’s career. Larry is the only guy back then that MJ never got back. As Mike K stated, MJ is 0-his entire existence against Bird in the Playoffs. Never got a game, even scoring 63.
      MJ did play Larry when Larry and the other guys were past their primes, and he still had a losing record against the Celtics.
      Bird got his numbers on Pippen, even after his messed up back and ankles.
      But I’m not going to argue a point that is reality, stated by MJ himself, that Larry used to torment him and ruin his great games against Boston. MJ may be the GOAT, but he never got the best of the LEGEND.

    As a West Coast guy, I always rooted for the Lakers over the Celtics in the finals. Boston lost 2 of 3 to LA as 2 of their 3 80s championships came against Houston. In the early 1980s Philadelphia had a dominant team and went to the finals 3 times in 4 years. There was a marked difference in style between the east and west and that took a physical toll on Bird. If Michael Jordan would have received the same physical punishment that Bird received, he would have only lasted 7-8 years. In 1986 I rooted for Jordan to beat the Celtics but as time wore on, I grew to appreciate Bird's greatness. How many Celtic players turned out to play great for other teams? Danny Ainge is the only one as he was a key player on the Blazers in 1992 and Suns in 1993. Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant and Dennis Rodman were all all star caliber players before or after their tenure with the Bulls. To say that Jordan had no help when he first came into the league is a false statement. The Bulls built their team around Jordan. The Celtics looked for the best player available and knew that Bird would compliment them. Jordan was probably the most exciting player to ever watch but when it came to winning and losing, nobody was ever better than Bird in that era.

      Imagine if Len Bias doesnt overdose and die June 1986. The help it could have brought to Bird and Mchale possibly causing them to not get injured at their peaks. I think Len being around would have created a MJ/Bias rivalry for years and the Celtics probably would have kept the lead in the 4th quarter 1987 finals vs Lakers and may have even won a second in the late 80s. A struggling team and an injured veteran core without Bias who was supposed to be there probably attributed to Reggie Lewis playing too many minutes and too aggressive for his unknown heart condition. Shit's sad the things the Celtics could have done but it was almost like they were cursed for 20 years

    People that deride the Bird legend have never really taken a close look at him, its that simple. I've seen honest breakdowns of WHY he is still mentioned in the same breath as the greats that later had amazing careers and once you see them (the breakdowns), there is no denying it. He took down all the greats in his era and his era was LOADED with greats. All things being equal, in his prime, I don't think there are many that could out think, out play and out manage him. He'll beat you one way or the other and he'll do it FAIR. Magic said playing against him was "scary"...he said he was actually scared because he knew Bird could do almost anything on the court. Not gifted with the sheer athletic talent, he made up for it and then some.
