I watched this on my tv via Apple TV and was amazing, maybe my favorite yet. You all have the BEST job love episodes like this makes me feel behind the scenes of the LFS…keep up the awesome vids!
There is a booked called “Corals of the world” by Jen Veron that might help you out, it has a lot of detail (Photos and text description). It is photos of colonies in the wild and not the best if you’re trying to identify from colour’s you see in tank pieces but still an interesting book.
I used to work in the fresh cut flower industry a while ago. We used paperwork called a “PHYTO” and i made it my mission to learn all the scientific names of every flower that came through my doors. Very interesting stuff. I try to do the same for corals now as well
In disclosure, I suck at this part too. Which is why I think it's a great topic. For your "Stumped" pile: try finding a tool know as a dychotomous key. I'm sure they exist for coral. That would be the biology tool used to catalog and differentiate species. Sadly, I can't recommend any. All the dichotomous keys I've used are related to plants, not coral. But that is the tools specific to solving your pile of unknowns
Love the videos and from NY and would love to visit you guys one of these days, any idea how it would work if anyone from NY visits the store and buys some frags if it can be brought back to NY either by plane or car?
March, maybe you can clarify for me. I've always heard if you touch Acropora they won't grow at that location any longer. Any truth to that? I am sure if someone had nasty hands it would be the case, but just in general.
Those acros are fire, howevr, I have no luck with those mariculture acroporas. Out of probably close to 20 frags I have purchased, maybe 3 survived. They were not cheap.
It would be so much easier if they wrote the name on the see-through labels. I assume the coral farmers know the species they are farming (?) Enjoying the eye-candy, and a nice side-track indeed! 👍
This was SO good... yeah I can get Saramentosa - not Plana - I would say some of those acros are mislabelled - the pikachu may be a latistella - I think the Indo one is and the Aussie is a Microlados - Bali Aquarium dot Net is really good as is corals of the world (the Factsheets section)- yeah Bali Aquarium has a great shot of the plana - my guess is the one on the left is granulosa and the one on the right loripes (loripes has one side smooth, 1 with radial coralites - granulosa doesn't seem to have radial coalites from corals of the world - wow I learned something today ;) that's cool how loripes has one side only with radials ;)
Would I be able to travel to go to Canada buy a colony and bring it back to the US by plain not sure if I would be allowed to do that do you by any chance have the answer for that
Dont shut up and just keeping talking and more content please hahaa you rambling is good as you sharing experience and knowledge thanks for your videos.
You guys should start an ID series! I would love that!!!

How the fuck are you not more popular in the reefing world. Personality, enthusiasm and knowledge for days. Either way you're killing it 💯🔊🔥
We just started 6 months ago give us a little more time :D
Pretty cool seeing you are doing that job, seing you from Spain, I think that the acro from the minute 21:26 is a aculeus
I don't think there are many people in the world that could ID all those acros accurately 😂 I enjoyed the shots of the acro crabs! 🦀
Fantastic sidetrack of the day
best to date
happy birthday Tia !
March, Side track question here. At 23:06, what is on the wall there? Is that a display of rocks or what? Just curious.

100% not true
Do you ever get any other deep water acros like suharsonoi or lokani? I've seen carduus and Plana there.
rarely but yes !
What details are on those clear tags?? Tomorrow's sidetrack - ok??
You should name the banded acro crab Waldo
