Loss of a Caribbean icon: Pillar coral

In memoriam of a beautiful, distinctly Caribbean, shallow-water coral species.
Video clips of the Caribbean pillar coral, Dendrogyra cylindrus, which has recently undergone a devastating decline because of the spread of a disease to which it is highly susceptible.
Sadly, this coral is already functionally extinct on most reefs in the Caribbean.
See this video from San Pedro, Belize, taken by divers in 2022 of a large area of reef covered by pillar coral colonies, all of which are dead.
