      Corals can breed.
      So if they could begin a scientific program in the hope of breeding tougher coral species that could survive some changes in the changing climate.
      The money for that kind of research could still be a problem.

    • @triccele
      @triccele 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The problem is the temperature of the water itself. Warmer oceans lead to coral bleeching, which is really serious

    • @youshcrimp6350
      @youshcrimp6350 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@triccele Breeding corals to be hardier in higher temps and lower ph would help, that's why most corals die and some don't. Some are hardier than others. We need more sensitive corals to be bred to be hardier by fragging them and subjecting slowly to a more hostile environment. Via Higher temps lower Ph and different current speeds in a tank. Then we can try releasing them after a couple generations and see how they do.

      Not all seas or waterways are calm. Some areas of the ocean suffer storms where gardening would be more detrimental since the idea is to take away and later on replace. With storms, the shelf where they are placed will be washed away or fall over. Ironically reefs soften the blow of waves especially from storms.

    1:43 This video was one of many reasons I left the reef aquarium world. The amount of growth and color those frags achieved in 6 months is ridiculous. I'm over here spending hours on maintenance and would have been happy with half that growth they'd get in the flippin wild. They did no water changes, no dosing, no screwing with lights. Mother Nature wins again.

    I didn't even know this was possible, or that corals can grow THAT quickly. Dang, this needs to be replicated around the world

    • @eegernades
      @eegernades 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      not all corals. some grow quicker than others. Those that were shown were mainly sps corals. Soft corals grow even faster. Look up green star polys as an example.

    Although my heart sings with joy that these corals are growing, I have to wonder what killed the reefs they came from in the first place, and how do we know will it not also kill the new plantings?

    This is amazing and I'm looking at it a lot being in the aquatics trade for 17 years plus. Why not make a man made reef right there as the corals are growing super quick. They grow much slower on the normal reef
