Oh my....yes....I have a Green Stamp memory. A close friend's sister invited me to her wedding. I gave her a lovely set of crystal beer mugs and pitcher. A few weeks after the wedding my friend called and said her sister wanted to know where I bought the set as the newlyweds loved the mugs and wanted to buy more. I had to sheepishly say.....I got it with Green Stamps at the store in Easton....I was so embarrassed. The new bride called me laughing and said to not feel that way at all...it was one of their favorite gifts! LOL

It's the thought that counts. Apparently my great grandmother bought something like a set of spice jars and the matching rack that also had egg cups (1 complete set). She split that between my parents (wedding present) and my aunties that was in 1971.
Imagine getting half of a gift set, lol.

Back in 1971 I sold Kirby vacuums from door to door on commission and just to demonstrate the vacuums you had your choice of 6 steak knives or 500 S&H green stamps. The people always took the green stamps and never bought the vacuum. That job lasted 3 weeks because the only money I made was a nickel I found in the street. LOL

Oh my gosh! I probably would have had the same fate, only finding money on the street haha. Can you imagine being a door to door salesman today?

@@PaperandMoose My younger Brother By about 1 1/2 yrs( I'm 66 now ) tried selling Kirby's too. Was probably around 1978 or 79. He sold my ex-wife and I one. He bought 1 too. I think He did it just so he could get it at cost or some, or a heavy discount.
S&H story-- Publix in Florida really promoted the Green Stamps (60's and 70's )and in many cases there was a green stamp store right next to the Supermarket in that Shopping Center. Publix used to run in their Weekly Sale ad that if you bought various specific items and clipped the coupon for it out of the paper... you got an additional 50 or 100 extra stamps for that 1 item purchase. Later on I started working for Publix (Bag-boy and Stocker ) and some people would have a long list after checking out. You also earned like 10 stamps for every $10 in purchases.. something like that. Customers REALLY LOVED getting their Green Stamps.. like Free money

My mom taught me how to put the stamps in the book. I licked a lot of them 😂 Mom picked what she wanted and saved her books. She was always happy going to the S & H redemption center that was nearby. I can’t remember what she got because I was left to browse myself. I as around five or six. Very good memory. Thank you, I needed a good smile today. 🤗🤣🦋

After graduation from college in the late 70's my mother got my iron and ironing board from the S&H Green Stamp store. And yes, most all my life I helped her fill her books with stamps she got from Jitney Jungle. Such simple and slower times. I miss them in a lot of ways. Thanks for the memories. God bless. Gosh I remember in the fifties sitting at my grandmother's kitchen table with a wet sponge and helping her put the stamps into the books. Everyone in the small town where she lived would give her their stamps so she had many beautiful things that she got. We had to drive from Cisco to Abilene to the stamp store there to turn the stamps in and and order or get what she wanted. The most expensive thing I can remember is her dining room table and chairs. She also saved Raleigh coupons

We grew up licking Green Stamps and some Yellow (Top Value) Stamps in the 1960s. Many happy hours were spent perusing the catalog in search of treasures. I would love to see a Green Stamp catalog to see if the rooster cookie jar is in it. My grandmother got one for us with stamps along with so many other things. I still had the rooster cookie jar, made in Mexico, until recently when I gave it that friend who has a rooster and chickens. The rooster cookie jar survived many moves with me in the last 40 years and is at least 60 years old.

A few years ago I bought a huge box of S&H stamps at auction for just a few bucks. Turns out that a company had bought the name and wanted to turn S&H into some hokey new "digital loyalty reward" redemption service for online retailers but still honored the old stamps. I sent in tens of thousands of them and got a few $100 gift cards for the effort!

Oh what a memory this is for me. I’m now 62 years old and to this day, my 84 year old mama still talks about the day, when I was just a toddler, she’d left me in my “car seat” while she took a bag of groceries into the house. When she returned just moments later, I had already gotten her S&H green stamps and had stuck them all over the car ceiling above my head. She said she couldn’t get mad at me because I was looking at them in wonder; like they were stars in the sky. Thank you for sharing the video. Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

We had a very similar scheme here in the UK where they were called Green Shield Stamps. Although lots of shops offered them the largest quantities seemed to come from petrol (ie gas) stations who competed on volume of stamps rather than price. I remember clearing the big signs offering 'Double Stamps', 'Triple Stamps' or even 'Quadruple Stamps'.
When the scheme wound up in the late 70s (if I recall correctly) most of the redemption centres converted to 'Argos' catalogue shops which was a new concept here at the time. Rather than having any goods on display you chose from a catalogue, either at home or in store, wrote down the reference number, took it to a cashier who would pass the order to the backroom, and then waited for your order to be brought out to you. Basically, the exactly same as the old stamp shops but with cash instead of stamps!
There was also a similar scheme operated then by the Co-operative Society shops who, instead of paying a members dividend ('divi'), as they had previously done, rather issued blue stamps with every sale that could be then exchanged for goods in their stores. One good feature of their scheme was that they could also issue bigger stamps, for example to the value of a full page, when you made a more expensive purchase, like a piece of furniture.

I have a Coleman lamp & Sunbeam 30 cup coffee urn that were purchase in the 1960’s. The urn still makes the best coffee and we used the lamp during hurricane Sandy

I don’t think we had green stamp books here in Australia. We were able to save coupons from Lan-Choo tea and trade them for items though. 😀

I recently bought the chicken casserole at a flea market here in Australia . Perfect condition but without the warming stand. How did the chicken get to Australia? Somebody must have loved it. Now I know its history. Thanks Renee, love your videos.

you may have found your demographic lol. I remember Green stamps. We collected them, but I don't recall my mother turning them in. Maybe she got things for the house and made all the decisions about it. All of us kids loved being the one that put them in the book though. We took turns doing it to keep the peace. I also remember the Brady Bunch episode about it.

I can't remember if it was Green Stamps or Blue Chip stamps. My mom would always save enough to buy the very basic tickets to take us to Disneyland. That was back in the 1960's. That's when they had the ticket books and the "E" ticket rides were the best!

I got my first silverware set with green stamps. so proud. I was young and on a tight budget so it took forever to save up enough. 4/$1.00 mac & cheese, a pound of hamburger meat and pack of hot dogs. $10.00 a week for a family of 3!
