  • Alaska presents many challenging opportunities and exciting hunting targets for the dedicated backcountry hunter, especially for those just carrying a bow and arrow. In 2021, Brad Brooks spent six weeks archery hunting Alaska in pursuit of three different species. This mini series will follow along on this amazing hunting adventure.
In this episode, the final installment from our Alaska Departed series, Brad finds himself running out of luck. The signs of autumn are beginning to become more apparent, which signals that time is running out on this year's moose rut in the wilds of Alaska. Without any other alternative, Brad continues doing what he knows best: rising early and staying out late till the sun drops out of sight. During these daylight hours he periodically calls and rakes the brush in an attempt to draw in a rutting bull moose. Will his strategy for hunting big Alaskan bull moose work out before time runs out? Follow along to find out.
Be sure to subscribe to the Argali TH-cam Channel to follow along on this late summer, extended Alaskan hunt as well as future hunt series and films.

Just found your channel. Video quality was very good. Although I would never use the term “suffer” when hunting in Alaska. I’ve been there last 3 years on fishing trips ( will come every year going forward)and trying to figure out way to afford a hunt. Take a bit of advice. Don’t ever climb without a harness/lines from the time you leave ground till you get back down. After hunting out of stands for 25+ years I forgot my harness and climbed with my climber anyway. After 11/2 hours my stand gave way and I fell 20’ backing my back. Was an eye lash from being paralyzed. Rods, bolts and world class doc put me back together. But 15 yrs later I’m still paying for that mistake with unmanaged nerve pain. Just some advice

To much moving for moose, its a patience mans game, sit and call same spot all the time. Don't spread your scent all over. They will leave as fast as they come. I've hunted moose in AK for 20+ years and took a long time to figure it out.

Ive gotten water out of a tinny puddle thay was straight mud. I clogged my brand new filter by the time was done but my water was still crystal clear.

Awesome experience! What kind of boots did you have and would you recommend them? Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

Used LaCrosse hipboots and schnees beartooths for everything that wasn't swamp walking. The Beartooths are easily my favorite all around mountain hunting boot and would 10/10 recommend

That's an adventure of a lifetime and thanks for bringing us along - this moose hunt looks pretty tough! Reminds me a little of chasing elk in deep timber when they aren't talking or responding to calls...sometimes it can feel useless but we gotta keep charging forward because it only takes one moment to go from nothing to a heart-pounding frenzy of excitement. This is why we keep coming back year after year 😃

It was tough, but fun nonetheless. And it absolutely reminded me of hunting stubborn bulls!

Great videos Brad, just now checking them all loud. Too bad the bag of tricks for moose isn’t any bigger that you brought!

Wonderful job capturing the beauty of your experience. From my limited experience, moose in the wilderness are ghostlike, leaving you sign but only showing up on their terms. Thanks for sharing the adventure.

Awesome trip - the best part of hunting is the experience of the hunt. The meat is an extra bonus. We don't always get that and that drives us all the more.
