Wasn't it Canaan, Ham's son who was actually cursed?
Might it be he was a child of that incident and was cursed so that he could not claim to be a child of Noah and get an equal inheritance? I think I heard someone claim that.

Ever been in a men's locker or changing room? Think about that for a moment. There's no prohibition or shame in other men seeing a naked man, not in our culture and not in theirs, especially if there is no one but family around. Indeed, Shem and Japheth, take the garment, and walk into the tent backwards so as not to see Noah's nakedness. These precautions would only be necessary if a woman was involved. In other words, Noah's wife was still drunk, naked, and could be seen from the outside of the tent. Common sense needs to apply here.

@ancientegyptandthebible as someone with ancient days in his username, I would think you be more well versed in the seriousness of exposing one's nakedness in the days of Noah. We're not talking about locker room gimmicks here: these were the earliest years after creation, where the first thing Adam and Eve realized after sinning was that they were naked. It was - and still is, in most cases - an immense shame to reveal your naked body in those days. It's not some trivial experience that one would brush off as if nothing happened. And, for that matter, even Jesus was likely completely naked while crucified on the cross. It should not be taken lightly, and I reject your hermeneutics.

I gotta disagree with you here. Genesis 9:22 says that Ham _saw_ his father's nakedness. Leviticus refers to _uncovering_ one's nakedness. It also flows better with the following verse where Shem and Japheth respond by taking a garment and covering their father's nakedness.

    • @frogpaste

I propose a different theory. It says that Noah cursed canaan not God. Therefore i think what it's talking about when it says canaan is to be a servant of his brothers is that in the newly formed social hierarchy being established in this new covenant, his lineage is socially punished for shaming his father or attempting to. Punishing your own family and making them become your slaves wasnt an uncommon practice during those times either.

Because Shem and Jephthah are covering up Noah's drunk, naked, and exposed wife. The text doesn't say that the sons were covering their father. The text says the sons were covering the "nakedness of their father." Again, this is all euphemistic language for seeing his father's naked wife and even having sex with her. In Middle Eastern culture, as well as our own, men seeing the nudity of other man carries no shame. Ever been in a men's changing room at a public pool?

What are you talking about? So if you don't know, let me clarify. My ancestors never enslaved anyone in the transatlantic or antebellum slave trade. None of my ancestors had never even set foot on North America prior to AD 1900 and even then I have no relatives who ever lived in the United States. I am not even a citizen of the USA.
      > ... one of the false narratives they used was that we was destined to be slaves based on Ham being cursed and we (black ppl) being thier descendants are inheritors of the same curse.
The "curse of Ham" as justification of keeping people enslaved has indeed a dark history. But that wasn't used to make people slaves, rather it was used (particularly by Mormons) to keep people enslaved. But this is why sound Biblical interpretation is important. It helps to show why the "curse of Ham (or Canaan)" cannot be used to justify slavery. You see, anything can be taken out of context or distorted to perpetuate great evil. Just because people distort what things mean, does not mean the original isn't worth examination.
      > Well not only are black ppl Ham and Shem, the curse was actually put on Canaan and not Ham. So when I hear you explain the curse of Ham you come across as ignorant or continuing the lie through non clarification
Technically, it was a curse on Ham's posterity for the actions Ham did. That is why it is called the "curse of Ham" as well as the "curse of Canaan." That is not a matter of ignorance. It is a matter of understanding who was being punished and why. In the ancient world, to curse someone's posterity is to curse that person himself. That's just understanding the ancient Near Eastern context of the passage.

    • @gideonyardenyisrael7587

@ancientegyptandthebible Technically it was not a curse on Ham's posterity. If one was to disseminate the scripture correctly the curse stated that Canaan would be a slave to his brothers, so how could a curse be placed on Ham's posterity when in fact it's Hams sons who are to be the oppressors to Canaan. Again scripture is to never be misunderstood bc when it is it results in the damaging of the kinnesit now I can recall watching your videos and gleaning useful info so don't think this is an attack on you per se just your understanding of a part of scripture that has been used as a tool against my people.
