I did a similar technique to make a custom dyed beach towel by tying and scrunching the towel on a 5 gallon bucket then rolling the side of the bucket in a shallow storage container with the dye in it. It was a real struggle to work with all that heavy fabric on a not quite cylindrical shape, but it turned out so cool! I love your wine bottle method for fabrics that aren't quite as thick and heavy as terry cloth 😉 Thanks for sharing your technique!

This is a really great technique Susan! And you explain it so well. I love the way you use it in your 'Unloading on the North Shore' series! Fabulous!

Now I know what to use my old juice containers for. Can't wait to try this.

Hi Susan, great tutorial! Have you found that there’s a maximum length of fabric that works on the bottle? I’d love to dye some cotton jersey to make a dress but that would require at least 2 yards of wide fabric.

The results you get are amazing. I will definitely have to try this! I may have missed it, but what is the length of fabric you use per bottle for the scrunching? Thank you!

Linda, I just tore a full width strip of PFD, lighter fabric could have a wider width.

@@Susanpurneymark That's just too easy. I love it. Thank you, Susan!

Why not just leave the wine in the bottle instead of “pouring it out” ;o) and refilling the bottle with H2O?

Well I "pour" it into my mouth....
