I've been going since 1979 and scene a ton a close races at IMS.This one ranks right up there with the best of them at the finish.Sato's late race charge as well was exciting to watch as he seemed to come from nowhere as the guys in front went wheel to wheel.Great stuff.

Brilliant driving from both Pagenaud and Rossi for the whole race, that sneaky waving probably saved the win for frenchman, hopefully Rossi will win it again in the future. Takuma Sato relentless kamikaze at 42y overtaking Carpenter on the outside is the highlight of the race :D

This was one of the first Indy Car races I watched the whole way through. I'm a NASCAR guy and I hope both series work together. I would attend a doubleheader of IndyCar and NASCAR!! I just LOVED watching Rossi driving with fury and passion. ALL racing organizations need more of that!
Last fatality during this race was 55 years ago. It's much safer than it looks. (Swede Savage got injured in 1973 but died from a botched blood transfusion over a month later)

I worked in medical for 16 years and I have no reason to doubt a wrongful death, in that they are killing more than 400 thousand people a year by medical quackery. I was at that race in 73. The Gasoline fires in the 60s and 70s changed the way they did a lot of things. Safety is phenomenal in auto racing today. In 1911 not one driver had seat belts or a helmet, worth mentioning, on his head.

Was really pissed I dropped 10 bucks up until that crash and I saw Sato went from like 22nd to 5th cause of it. Low and Behold at the end of the day i got to pocket 40 bucks instead of losing 10!

I saw nothing out of Pagenaud that looked like blocking. He just kept dumping the draft, slowing Rossi. The best driver strategy won. Wild last 7 laps, GREAT 500 MILES.
cartoon network, the announcers were the first to say it was blocking during the live broadcast, rossi didnt publicly say it till after the race. but i get it, youre a rossi hater. too bad you will be nothing but dissapointed in the future, hes got multiple championships in his future. easily one of the most tallented drivers in the field. put all the drivers in the same car and he will out drive all of them.

Thought it was gonna rain so I didn't go to the race X-( Anyway, this was one of the best finished to an Indy 500 in a while I was literally jumping up & down yelling for these guys to push full rich, sooo happy for Simon & Menards cause lord knows John Menard has had his ups & downs at Indy it's good to finally see an IndyCar with his name on it win the 500. Furthermore since his son also won NASCAR's Brickyard 400, how many companies can say they have wins at Indy in both series?
I really liked their intro video (with Tom Stafford, Mario, and others). I look forward to their involvement in the years to come. They also did a great job partnering with IMS and the city of Indianapolis throughout the month, and it showed.
One of the better Indy 500s in the last ten years. Great so see the cars spread out and catch lap traffic but Id like to see the leader be able to drive away a bit more. Draft is still too strong, making all the lead changes and changes for position mean very little and honestly not particularly exciting or interesting. Haven't missed a 500 live since 2007 and I've watched every 500 since the 50s that was televised at some point. As long as the 500 exists May will always be my favorite time of year
Most of the lead changes in the race were green flag pitstops the draft really only came in to affect the last 13 laps if you don't like this type of finish your crazy this was awesome blows Monaco and the Coke 600 out of the water every year
ABC used to be great. But they let greatness dilute down to Jim Lampley level sappiness and pre-taped material dependence, vs. focusing on the racing. NBC did such a good job of not only showing the leaders - but the racing that was going on behind the leaders. As good a race broadcast as I've seen in a long time.
IndyCar needs to take a leaf out of Nascar's book...upload the full race here on TH-cam and if you need revenue, monetise through showing ads. In my country, I canb't get IndyCar on FTA or PayTV
Pageneaud's lunges toward the inside kept looking like he was diving into the pits. There were way too many times when I was like, "WHY'S HE PITTING? - Oh......"
Great race yesterday, but really disappointed by the poor sportsmanship of a few of the drivers. I thought Rossi’s tantrum when his fuel rig wouldn’t connect was disrespectful to his crew. Even though the wreck was 100% Sebastian Bourdais’s fault, Graham Rahal showed what a punk he is by gesticulating wildly at Bourdais before he even knew whether Bourdais had been hurt or not in the crash. And Will Power once again showed that he is the biggest crybaby in the sport when called race control a disgrace. Typically Indycar drivers are pure class. Not yesterday. Happy to see a gentleman like Pagenaud win.
I was disappointed with the antics of several drivers yesterday too. I don't agree that the Rahal/Bourdais accident was all on SB... Rahal barely got his front wheel level with Bourdais' rear wheel. Not sure what the spotters were telling either of them, but that move was never on. SB took his normal line because he had no idea Rahal had made that idiotic late move... somebody on the roof somewhere should have been on the radio to him to tell him (assuming it wasn't already too late). Even when the driver trailing is an American and the guy in front is not, it's still the overtaking driver's responsibility to make sure the move is done safely. That move was never on.
Yea... agree with you! As an American, it is kind of embarrassing that the American drivers (Rahal, Rossi) come across as spoiled brats! Wish they would learn how to act with the kind of class you see from guys like Pagenaud... whether he wins or loses.

I'm willing to cut the drivers some slack when they are in the heat of the moment. As it turned out, the race officials got most/all of their calls right. I certainly agree that it's refreshing to see a gentleman like Pagenaud win - but I also think Power behaves as a gentleman (team radio chatter? they should be able to vent a bit). Even Graham Rahal seemed to temper his tantrum a bit when he arrived at Bourdais' car - making sure he was OK and tapping his helmet gently; although the theatrics to the crowd before and after? bush league.

I am by no means an expert of the rules but isn't it forbidden to make more than 1 defensive move? Pagenaud made 2 and it looked like Rossi was close enough to make the pass without all the tow breaking. I mean Simon ran great all month and he would have deserved 100% to win this race but to make a move like this on the last lap of an Indy 500 is unfair and disgusting imo. Especially because he probably wouldn't have won without it. Edit: amazing race though, so exciting last laps.
he would have still won, rossi admitted it in the post race interview. they asked if he wished they could go another 10 laps and he said "no, the outcome would be the same. he just had more power." and hey, its the last lap of the 500, any driver in the lead would do the same. they would rather die than just hand it over.

Great they are showing the race... Horrible camera work. Most networks have learned the WIDE shot allows viewers to she what is happening on the course for the first 6 to 10 places.... all these fancy camera angels show a car or two somewhere in the race... could be first, could be last.... very sad.
