Great to have Helena back on. I don't know how she manages to speak at length, often without taking a breath, about any flavour of politics off the top of her head, without a script or a teleprompt. Something nearly every prestitute scribe is incapable of doing on mainstream media. More please
You will split the Labour votes and open the door to the Tories again. The Conservatives could need reform to have a majority if too many split the votes, and Labour can't have a majority. So vote only for Labour if you want to get rid of the Conservatives.
Last week marked 30 years since the end of apartheid in South Africa. It ended because ordinary people had the courage to stand up for humanity. Global solidarity was the answer then, and it’s the answer now. We will carry on marching for peace, justice and a free Palestine.
I agree with a lot of Novara but the notion of a grow based economy in a finite world is just capitalistic utopianism no matter how much you green or red wash it.
Michael Walker made a mistake appearing on Morgan's show. The atmosphere Morgan creates doesn't facilitate a proper discussion. All he is interested in is getting guests to condemn Hamas for October 7. I thought Michael looked intimidated when Morgan pushed him about his tweets on that issue.
It's a joke of a show. It's pure rage farming, click seeking, profit prioritising garbage. Morgan is using the suffering in Gaza to make money and clout.,
I agree but if Mr Walker got paid and tried to promote the Palestine cause, then we can forgive him. I have never watched Piers show directly and thus never supported him, but if he pays me £2000 to go on his show, then i would and then abuse him...
Activists need to be more careful about the distracting traps Isr. backers set. A boycott of Isr. is, necessarily, morally incoherent, if it doesn't acknowledge role of West and strategically faulty if it doesn't communicate objectives of the boycott. Isr. apologists are eager to present themselves as victims of discrimination and sanctimony. A more coherent position, for activists, is to target protests primarily at own collaborators and complicity and relating it to Isr's crimes. This is also the most meaningful strategy as the West (albeit, the US mainly) has the power to stop the war. Boycotts of Isr. can be coherent if they target occupied territories - as West is on record of condemning them.
I agree. Michael was expecting intelligent debate... wrong show. Piers encourages sensationalism and headline worthy answers. Piers is clever at what he does.
The Green push shows that Rural Tories care more about Pro-Nature policies than conceding on social issues. Not a bad thing. The fact is that social liberalism does no harm to anyone or anything, but our economy and our environment are vital to us all.
Not sure that is 100% true and kind of assumes something about "all" which none of us have the right to conclude. Green also have more progressive policies on things like legalising/taxing for example Cannabis which the UK have fallen heavily behind on while other nations get the first mover advantage and get that money for their social systems. Not that extra money would matter here given how much cash I spent on overpriced consultancies and heavily privatised social services taking profits over value to society.
Piers Morgan’s knees jerked SO hard n fast, I thought that they were going to fly off and smash the camera!!!! Mikey, you handled Piers’ bully-boy tactics with aplomb! I salute you, Sir 🫡 More power to you, Comrade 🤩
Aaron is slightly wrong about Stroud and the council elections. Stroud has had a green based for years, Extinction Rebellion started there, and you have Ecotricity based there. Most of the Green Councillors are based in and around Stroud, whilst outside of that are mainly Labour and Tory councillors.
In a report to the NEC last week, the party’s general secretary, David Evans, caused surprise when he revealed that membership, which had stood at 390,000 in January, had plummeted to 366,604 at the latest count, with more than 11,700 of these being in arrears. Labour membership reached a peak at the end of 2019 when it hit over 532,000. Starmer is beginning to be a liability. 2 Reply
As someone has an interest in gambling addiction would be good if Novara could have someone like Matt Zarb-Cousin to raise awareness, discuss and explan the proposed affordable checks legislation, which is a hot topic in the racing and gambling world. Keep up the great work and thanks.
So when all the hostages in Gaza are starved to death because there is no food in Gaza, can these Israelis be held responsible for the death of their own family members. Maybe someone should be checking to see the size of the life insurance policies they stand to gain from when their hostage relatives die!!!
@NoJusticeMGT thank you again for mentioning the ongoing occupation and genocide of West Papua by the US/Australia backed Indonesian Security Forces. Thus far, over 500,000 indigenous West Papuans are murdered by the occupying Indonesian Security Forces, and the indigenous population fell from 98% to 48% due to settler colonial efforts
The demographics of the Tory vote has now changed. Last count 175,000 party members. We need PR. Labour will not change anything, Starmer has told the UK that. He will not spend the money.
For the record, I don't think it's _that_ ridiculous to talk about pushing for a British Microsoft as a political aim. Certainly both impractical and improbable, given how late he is to that particular party, but it's not stupid to say that it would, in fact, be the best way to make the country be both independently viable and internationally relevant were those your goals. It's not exactly any _more_ impractical than say, a flat zero murder rate in a tier 1 city either. That's pretty much Varoufakis' whole deal, after all, and he's quite reasonable. He gives a different _answer_ to the problem, obviously, but they are fundamentally trying to solve the same issue, the lack of cloud capital making Europe(and Britain, if you consider them separate) fundamentally uncompetitive on the global scale.
@Aaron, Labour are completely wedded to neoliberalism. They adopted it before Thatcher... see Callaghan at the 1976 Labour Conference and the monetarist Denis Healey. Tories have just adopted it to prioritise their own spending needs and provide them covers for things they don't want to spend on.
Spot on about neo liberalism. Monetarism was all about restricting the money supply so that if you needed it you had to go to people that already had money or made money by manipulating money. They will give you it but only if you pay them back at a high rate of interest I’ll let them buy your business You can run it but they will keep t the profit.
One of the reasons why US tech firms have been so successful is because the US government has been a happy customer and acting as a protector for those firms too.
I think Hunt must have meant to predict a trillion pound tech company - this is much more in line with the Conservative's approach to domestic inflation
I do wish people would stop accusing people of "being nostalgic for Britain's past as a great power" or similar whenever anyone articulates any ambition. Of course just saying we want a trillion dollar company wont make it happen and neither will current tory policies, but the goal at least is laudable. There's nothing nostalgic or jingoistic about wanting a better economy.
They don't want a better economy for Britain. They want it for the top 1% of the wealthy in Britain. The rest of us won't even notice it. It will be laundered through our Freeports and Special Economic Zones!!!
Please stop interfering in Arab politics, it will help the cause for a caliphate and it will not be pleasant for lots of Muslims in the Levant or Arab Christians. There is also a fundamental split between the Levantine Sunnis in the Gulf Sunnis that date back centuries. In other words the ideologies are complex not like our over-privileged Tory and Tory trick, that we dress up as democracy. As much as I disliked Sadat and Arafat for signing over to the Israelis, it does not translate into Egypt supporting the Israelis, oh that it was that simple. Mubarak fought at Yum Kippur by the way, you did not but your father might have, I don't know. Arms were twisted, and people terrorised. If you want to help bring down our 450 year dictatorship, it would help the world survive, but Britain is too cowardly and too scared of it, just like the rest of the world. Instead of wordifying, which a 5 year old can do, start thinking a bit laterally and research the ins and outs. Remember when you all shouted for the free syrian army cos you saw a few protesters on the street and were too scared and blind to bring down your own dictatorship. It resulted in the most democratic and brave country in the Arab world breaking up. Hamas aka the Brotherhood, did the job not some imaginary ISIS, the old Mujah'ad-din, though a lot of the Syrian Brothers ducked back behind the govt. Now Syria is left paranoid and Lebanon is in danger as some groups there no doubt are ready to join the Jews, thus creating a potential civil war.
Same here in Canada . All our big companies got blowed up by the USA blackberry was not supported for its apps and they moved to apple as "secure" Nortel was another huge Canadian company that was 1/2 of the entire TSX then got ripped apart. You need to build up an entire sector before building a trillion dollar company.

I voted Green in the Local and Green Elections. They got elected! We can kick the Tories and Labour out. Come on Brits we can change the system!!!!❎❎❎
The Greens are Tories too. CHANGE the world means to change the whole system!
better than the Green's are the Independent candidates or the Workers Party. The Green's have also been bought by the Devil state of Israel.
I found that too. A tiny win but it can get better.

I agree with a lot of Novara but the notion of a grow based economy in a finite world is just capitalistic utopianism no matter how much you green or red wash it.
Yup. Consistently tends to be a weak point in the politics of Novara
Growth doesn't necessarily have to come from the consumption of natural resources. Services and intangible goods can contribute to growth.
Development is a better way to put it than growth
