Lyrics
My favourite tree
Once stood near me
Up Stony Point Road some call Route Twenty
From there you’d see
Plain as can be
Standing by itself, my favourite tree
At night when dark
Sometimes I’d park
And walk straight up and peel some of its bark
Maybe not smart
Where it’s so stark
On these excursions I’d best not embark
Most any day
I’d pass its way
& see each branch would host a bird of prey
Or buzzards may
Be those who stay
From driving by it’s really hard to say
As I recall
Twas wide and tall
It had no leaves so there were none to fall
Should MY tree fall
I know I’d bawl
Of all the trees I loved this most of all
So much I’ve said
This tree I’d wed
If possible, I’d gladly share my bed
Plans come up Zed
Much to my dread
My favourite tree is also very dead
The best POTUS was Roosevelt, not Franklin but Ted
& like my favourite tree, my favourite President is dead
I don’t know why
it had to die
As long as it can stand i will not cry
As time goes by
Let out a sigh
I guess I’m just a sentimental guy
It hit the ground
Without a sound
Toppled with no roots to keep it down
Though once renown
No wood was found
Exploded into splinters all around
So obscene
something so mean
As crime scenes go I’d say this one was clean
No branches seen
No stump to lean
No ending like told by Shel Silverstein
My favourite tree
Once stood near me
Up Stony Point Road some call Route Twenty
I swear I see
A ghost, maybe
Standing by itself, my favourite tree
I always liked that weeping willow in your backyard on Craig Lane.
Indeed- A shame willows have such a short shelf life… but so enchanting they are
