I rescued a Catahoula with a traumatic past. So I have an extremely challenging and dangerous dog. But amazing. I'm a dog trainer , part time. This video is crap because the most important thing about Catahoulas is earning and giving respect. Trust is earned. Respect isnt demanded, but built through leadership, consistency and quiet bonding. I've worked with many dozens of dogs, but my rescued Catahoula is one in a million. That said, he won't tolerate most people unless they act with careful respect and clarity. Most people have no clue. I manage his environment and we have a special bond, but Catahoulas demand, and will give, respect. Never try to dominate a Catahoula, but show empathy and leadership and decision making. Give guidance and make sure you bond in quiet moments, with gentle tones and deliberate motion. These dogs are almost without equal on any dimension, but they are quick to judge. If you show respect and earn their trust, and granted into their circle, you are golden. If you break trust or fail to protect your Catahoula, she or he will rely solely on her or his ideas and choices. Not a good outcome. All dogs deserve respect and trust is crirical, but with Catahoulas, these things are deal-makers or deal-breakera.
Unless youre a HIGHLY experienced and skilled trainer with an even higher activity level, they are 100 percent NOT the dog for you. If you can gain their trust and satisfy their need to get that energy out, theyre wonderful, and they really will love you forever at that point, and youll have an amazing furry friend.
These dogs are NOT for everyone!!! They need specific training and environments, specific handling and a tremendous time commitment! These dogs are NOT known for their obedience training 😆
True on handling and environment. Wrong, Catahoulas are easy to engage and train if you are experienced. They are highly focused and that can translate to a dog that listens and responds appropriately. You don't know how to train if you think they can't be obedient.
These dogs are wonderful but you won’t ever own them. They will own you. Wonderful dogs but not for the person who wants a simple fun loving dog. They require time and EFFORT!

Wrong. The relationship is based on mutual respect.
