Stavross Cardona just purchased one today, it sounds just as good as my SG. SG sounds a little better but this is not even bad at all. It’s very diverse.
Hey man! Thanks for the video, sounds awesome! This guitar is made in China and fretboard is in pauferro, an alternative of rosewood! But it sounds great!
Man that’s some tasty playing right there! Epi sounds great to my ears, the killer tone in those fingers of yours helps a bit I’m sure! “Well, Train, Train, Take me on out of this town”! Haven’t thought of that tune in a while, thanks for that!
SMOKIN video!! some tasty tones! this is the best video ive seen on a DOT. Ive had 2 previous cherry EPI Dots, years ago. IM thinkin about getting another, and I stumbled onto this video. Im definitely checking out the DOT DELUXE.
I have the exact same 335. I've had it for a number of years, and starting to really learn to play. More a chord basher than a lead player. It's getting a proper set up in the next couple of weeks, and after watching this, I cannot wait to get it done and back.
You got my Sub.!!! Awesome that someone plays this Guitar in a different Way! I like Bleus too, but obviously this Thing can do so much more...! Would love to see a Vid on youtube that shows off ALL styles and genres that a 335 Style Guitar can play! Thanks for a new and modern perspective on my beloved Dot. Be Blessed!
I changed the neck humbucker 0n my d0t t0 a a P-94 (single c0il). 0n leads n0w I can get a really nice "ringing" t0ne which s0unds great when trying t0 achieve that t0ne which is in a l0t 0f s0uthern bluesy stuff.
These were a special edition made for Musician's Friend in the early 2000's. I had one of the early ones that looks exactly like this one, but also had a flamed back. It is my favorite to this day. I wish I still had it.
Im thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these, i built a kit one and put my own pickups in that i wound and it rocks. But im not satisfied with my finish i tried something new and it didn't turn out that great. I should of just lacquer it, but i tried epoxy and its sticky. I want the blue burst.
Sounds very good! When I intonate my guitars, I lower the pickups, because sometimes they tend to pull the strings and give wrong tuning. Cool video! Thanks!
I do that, and I also check and adjust the intonation with the guitar in the playing position, so the neck doesn't have gravity pulling on it. Glad you liked it!
The dots seem like the hidden gems. Nighthawks as well ;) I love when I look for a random demo and find you already have a video on what I'm researching. 🤘
These are the older ones with the fatter neck. I own one. Sounds exactly like this so those will be the stock pickups. It's just one of those insane guitars for the price kind of thing like the original Squier JV's out of Japan were. Seriously, it's a tusq nut away from perfect.
@@LucasFowler fuuuuck that's brilliant gotta try it on my hx. Hey man, do you prefer this dot deluxe or the sheraton? I'm looking for a 335 style but never had this model in my hands
@@FabrizioPeretti I've only played one Sheraton, and that was near 10 years ago. I remember thinking it was pretty cool, but it didn't wow me. Probably a guitar to guitar basis, your mileage may vary.
Wow great tone. In my experience, Epiphone semi-hollows have always been top notch for the price. I've never played a bad one. I like their guitars generally, but have played some stinker LPs (and great ones too). But damn, their semi-hollows!
Thanks! To answer your question kind of broadly, I'd pick an album you really dig and learn all the leads off that. You will subconsciously pick up information and tricks as you do. Do that a few times and your own kind of "style" starts to form. At least that's what I did as a teenager :P
@@LucasFowler That's a fantastic idea, thanks man! I really dig the Hidden Gems guitar pedal videos btw, keep those coming! For those of us who can't afford Gibsons and PRSs, it's nice to know about products out there that can help us get great sounds out of our budget setups lol
Sounds to me like Nugent would be very comfortable with this guitar. Very characterful tones when you apply various layers of dirt. Stellar demonstration - there may be an upsurge of Epiphone sales following this...
I have a mik blonde, when bought many years ago, not particularly good. Fret level, Gotoh bridge and a Tusq nut later and you wouldn't get it off me for large money.
Lucas if you discover what those pickups are let us know please. It would be cool to find out if they're Epiphone's that yeah they can hit the spot just fine. Then again, if they're Bare Knuckles or something, my egotistical ears would be vindicated. Great playing man!
Me too! Thanks Lucas 👍🏼 Now that brings me to the question of dialing in your tone to suit the guitar. If you get a chance to make a video about this someday I think a lot of us would enjoy learning your approach because you sure nailed it here. You got that Epi Dot neck sounding like Cream at the Royal Albert '68. Inspiring!
I have shared this one on a video somewhere before, but here it is, with my custom IR as well: drive.google.com/open?id=1voT116yURCI7NpOOhvcQNlm3tGMFxWg1
The fade on some modern Epiphones and even Gibsons looks like they took a balloon shape piece of cardboard and sprayed around it with a rather stark line. If you look at Allman's guitar or great vintage guitars you see a nice, artistic fade. Or look at a PRS who prides themselves on fine artistry. To me that Epiphone is very ugly but I am pleased that Epiphone makes at least one guitar that doesn't suck in its quality.
I wouldn't be surprised if they are using some kind of stencil/template when they mass produce these. I agree, the old guitars definitely had a nicer look!
The vintage guitars had a nicer look bc they were not mass produced they were handmade . Something even overpriced Gibson’s are not anymore , they are mass produced outside of custom shop guitars . Plus back then they used lesser coats of paint to make the wood breathe more and that’s how u get the nice aged look . It’s a huge reason Eric Johnson plays vintage Gibson’s and his fender models have less paint on them too so the wood can breathe . I have owned several nice epiphones including a Epiphone Es 335 pro in cherry that I had Seymour Duncan 59 pickups put in the neck and bridge and it sounds and plays fabulous . U can get duds from any guitar company . I also owned a few 1990’s Gibson’s and the modded epiphones sounds just as good as those and play just as well . It’s all about preference
@@LucasFowler I wonder why that doesn't seem to affect Squiers (which have the same headstock shapes as Fenders). Also: were you using just amp distortion in this, or was there some overdrive pedal in the line?
Im watching this channel and video for the first time, and you are asking me to subscribe? Why in the H would I do that? Giving you a pass because it's an old video... gonna continue watching the rest of the video.

Yet people still think 335's and DOT's are bad for metal. They need to watch this. Lucas you're a beast

Epiphone has been good for sometime now. A little setup and some new strings and you're good to go.
I have this one sitting in my lap right now as a first guitar!!!
Great choice!
Great Tone and Player!
I have a Chinese one of these. Had it for 13 years. It's never needed a setup, and rings like a bell. Get one asap
Lucas got it and its very contagious!!! Go Lucas.
Excellent review/demo
That sound at 8:30. Badass. Have yourself a like
Hey man! Thanks for the video, sounds awesome! This guitar is made in China and fretboard is in pauferro, an alternative of rosewood! But it sounds great!
Mark Mc right it’s pau Ferro bc Rosewood is endangered and US regulations prohibit using Rosewood on guitars .

Are these better than the Gretsch streamliners?
The serial number can be used to decode (semi-easily) & decipher the factory & year of manufacture.

Have a MIK Samik Sheraton 2 with Seymour Jazz in neck and Pearly Gates at bridge. Independent coil taps. Flatwound strings. It's simply awesome!

Is it the Korean (late 90's?) era?

Helix there? Sounds huge in headphones. What amp u using? I can ear a clear stereo that's amazing
Indeed it is the Helix. I use a 20ms delay with 0% feedback and 100% mix on one side to give the illusion of a double tracked guitar :P

Hi, Lucas, what patch are you using at around 9:57?
That's the Line 6 Helix's "Plexi Bright" model with an Impulse Response I made and stereo delay.
holy smokes 8:11 sounds HUGE
to my ears, this sounded better with gain than the cleaner stuff.
I really think some guitars/pickups just don't do the magic thing until they have some distortion to amplify the harmonics.
