  • The first part of a custom project is always the prototype stage. This video covers me fitting a modern set of LED's into a vintage Kenner Snowspeeder. Check out how I got on.

    I now have a simple solution to this that should of thought of at the time. I will cover this in the next video in this series.

      i think the slightly off going blinking leds are quite effectfull. it´s more like shooting lasers.

    • @javbw
      @javbw 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because the LEDs are so directional, I wonder if pointing them towards the light rirecting rod inside the snow speeder (forward) rather than up will give you brighter lasers. The original bulbs were probably not directional, like the LEDs are.

      I liked the lazers going different times tbh 👍

      Looking foward to seeing your solution! I wonder if there is more wire or other resistance between the battery and one LED than the other.

    You should print out a small toy polloi logo and apply it to the bottom or back of your work to show it's a signature piece.
    Can't wait to see the decals and final touches.

    I know I’m late to the party but I really think the out of synch lasers are fine!
    Even the red bleed looks fine too.
    And I must thank you, I enjoy your videos but I sold all my Star Wars recently ( was xcept my favorite figures and my Falcon, couldn’t part with those !) and I focus on aircraft models.
    Now my 1/72 scale Vulcan is going to have lights!
    Keep up the good work !

    While your restorations are wonderful I really love it when you improve the original designs. Love the customizations. My suggestion on syncing them up would be to wire two regular non blinking red LEDs together and use a small capacitor in the circuit. Just my two cents. Thanks for all the great content/videos.

    One way I have handled the problem of out of sink blinking, is to wire two non blinking LEDs in series with a blinking LED. I covered the blinking one so it wouldn’t be seen, but that is now used to blink the others. Or you could use a microprocessor, that way you could adjust the blinking rate. However, a microprocessor is a little overkill for this, so just use a 555 timer ic. Much cheaper and smaller and easier than a processor. Keep up the awesome work.

  • @GreyHulk2156
    @GreyHulk2156 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I believe, 'in universe' as they say, the lasers can be fired one at a time or in unison. So your custom being out of sync shouldn't be a problem. ;)

    That's awesome!! I want to try this!! To bad I'm not electronically proficient!! I don't think I could do it without really screwing up or destroying the snowspeeder but that really is such a nice addition to the snowspeeder! I love the white light in the cockpit not to mention the red lasers!! Who knows.... perhaps I'll try it! I've just never done anything like this before! Seems complicated to me but I'll try and follow what you've done and see how it goes!! Again.. such a wonderful video and such a wonderful way to enhance this toy!! Thanks!!

    When I light the inside of vehicles, I spray all non-visible parts of the inside of the shell with aluminium paint. No light bleeds through anywhere, and it distributes the light more evenly.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't want to spray anything so I can change this in future. So tape will do for now. I have some other ideas I want to try on this model in future. But spray would certainly work best.

  • @PacManDreaming
    @PacManDreaming 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    An easy way to stop the light bleeding through would be to use some spray primer on the interior.

  • @trumpisacrybabydictatornar914
    @trumpisacrybabydictatornar914 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Lol from your clip art for your video it looked like you painted the speeder “flat black” like the 1st order tie fighter but I see now it’s just a picture of the speeder with the light off lol I think you should do that , paint a snow speeder “flat gun metal black” with red trim it would look cool as hell
    They called it a snow speeder but it’s actually a “light atmospheric fighter” that they use on many planets this is why they had to adapt the fighters to the cold on Hoth in the movie so it’s not actually a snow fighter but it is the only time we saw it in action

    • @Tim-57

    Can make a simple circuit with a transistor, capacitor and a few resisters that will work with normal leds and should make them blink at the same time. The problem with this circuit might be the difference in the length of wire creating more resistance.

    Did a very similar mod after you inspired me with you’re slave 1 custom, though I removed the electric motor and used a very long and small diameter bolt to bridge the contacts in the original mount to switch on the gun lights circuit, took a bit of bending and tweaking but got it to work eventually, after a few seconds it goes out of sink like yours too, interested to see how you find a fix

    Hi Dave did you come up with a solution for the lights becoming out of sync? I am currently working on a similar project using the original components to make the leds flash. One reason I thought of for the out of sync flashing could be the wires are different lengths. It could be that one signal is taking longer than the other to return. I will let you know how mine turns out!

    Those blink LEDs never will be in sync. Due to manufacturing tolerances even LEDs from same batch have different frequencies...
    For synchronized blinking I'd use a small arduino (i.e. Arduino Nano), there you have - even with the easiest "blink" example - more control. You don't have to rely on those blink LEDs, just use standard red LED for it then.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +obelix You'll see how I fix it in the next video. It's really very simple. No need for anything complicated. I just had a brain fog on the day I filmed this.

    • @sseppel76
      @sseppel76 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ok - waiting for the solution you found... ;)
      One easy solution I could think of is (if voltage is high enough) to wire one of those blink LEDs and one of the non blinking ones in series (you'd have to adjust the current limiting resistors then). From what I remember (can't test it atm since I ran out of those red blinking LEDs), the blink LEDs only conduct when in "on" state, which means the other LED will light up only when the blink LED is lit, making them blink synchronized...

    • @akc5150
      @akc5150 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      On further thinking, they might actually work with no resistors at all. If I remember correctly most red LEDs will work fine on 4.5v which is what they would see if run in series.
