    also chatgbt:
Makizushi, which is a type of Japanese sushi, predates gimbap. Sushi has a long history in Japan, with the earliest forms of sushi dating back over a thousand years. The use of fermented rice with fish was one of the early methods of preserving fish in Japan. Over time, sushi evolved, and different styles, including makizushi, emerged.
On the other hand, gimbap is a Korean dish that has its roots in the 20th century. Gimbap was influenced by Japanese sushi but has distinctive Korean flavors and ingredients. It became popular in South Korea and eventually spread to other parts of the world.
In summary, makizushi from Japan has a longer history, and the concept of rolling rice and ingredients together likely influenced the development of gimbap in Korea.

The concept of rice and seaweed roll making did arrive to Korea from Japan, but yes, gimbap is entirely naive to Korea.
It’s similar to how the Chinese brought noodles to Japan, and over time, the Japanese added their own flair to create Japanese noodle styles like udon, somen, or soba and Japanese dishes like tonkotsu ramen.

It is a Korean food that has its origins in the Japanese making of norimaki. When Koreans first adopted the culture of making norimaki from Japan. And called this type of food Norimaki, but because of nationalism, the name was changed to Kimbap, and over time, the making of Norimaki in Korea changed according to the tastes of Koreans. and is clearly different from the Japanese original.

Kimbap is a Korean food which was adopted from Japanese roll. It was born out of the Japanese occupation of Korea during the first half of 20th century.
So that's why it was called as "Norimaki" before it changed to kimbap which means "rolled (rice) with seaweed" in Japanese.

Japan probably just made a name for it earlier still doesn't change the fact that Koreans did it first and u see no Koreans claim Maki is theirs while u constantly see Japan and China claim everything in korea is theirs I wonder why

@@Jyoo609 um that's not true? Japanese people get way more mad and a lot of Japanese people and Chinese people both like claiming things they've stolen from korea. Chinese people forced Koreans as slaves so there's a small tribe in China of korean people. And Chinese people use that as an excuse to say kimchi and hanbok is theirs since they have a small percentage of korean people which doesn't even make sense cause what about America. Japan colonized korea and still to this day talks about how parts of the korean island are theirs. Ofc korea should be mad?? Japan and China always fight about ramen and useless stuff but they aren't korea. They weren't weak before. They weren't colonized before like korea was. They don't have that painful history korea has. Ofc it's incomparable not to mention korea is litterally in between them and now that koreas evolving their still looking down on korea.
And anyways kimbab is still korean. Not to mention seaweed was litterally introduced to Japan by Koreans? The whole roll thing is unidentifiable but Koreans made it before Japan.

      @Jyoo609 ปีที่แล้ว +33

@@kozumekenma9157 yes there are ethnic Koreans living in China, but that does not mean China has claimed that kimchi and Hanbok is Chinese (don’t get it off Korean news outlets, they just want to misinterpret and cause conflict for a good read). They just happen to embrace that China is not one ethnicity and encompasses 56 and celebrate all the differences and understand that ethnicity is not the same as nationality, just like many other non-homogenous countries. And the whole kimchi thing, heck “pao cai” is just a literal translation of pickled vegetables, even sauerkraut is called “pao cai” in China, doesn’t mean they’re trying to claim it. I’m sorry that Japan and China have had Korea under their thumb all these centuries, and it seems to have given them a chip on the shoulder.
Give me an example of Japan /China accusing each other of stealing each others cultures. Apart from disputes over islands and war time atrocities, there’s nothing. So once again like I said, it’s always between Korean and the other two because Koreans been under a lot of suppression and want to stand out and be unique culturally which isn’t bad, just obnoxious when a lot of things are obviously not unique to them.
By they way there is no fight about ramen between China and Japan, the Japanese literally write ramen in katakana which means they acknowledge it’s foreign origins.

The origins of gimbap are debated.[12] One commonly accepted theory suggests that the dish is derived from the introduction of the Japanese sushi variant makizushi to Korea during the Japanese occupation of Korea. During that period, Korean cuisine adopted Western food and drink, as well as some Japanese food items such as bento (dosirak in Korean) or sushi rolled in sheets of seaweed.

Neither gimap nor makisushi originated from Korea. They both originated from Japan.
    - Gimbap (also written as gimbap or kimbap) is a Korean dish that resembles makisushi but has some differences in its ingredients and preparation method. Gimbap features ingredients like cooked rice, seasoned vegetables, and sometimes cooked meat or seafood, rolled in seaweed sheets. It is a popular Korean street food and snack.
    - Makisushi (also known as sushi rolls or simply sushi) is a Japanese dish that typically consists of sushi rice, raw or cooked seafood or vegetables, and other ingredients rolled in seaweed sheets. It is a traditional Japanese food that has gained popularity worldwide.

The invention of rolled kimbap in Korea and the use of bamboo rolling mats, which originated in Japan, are separate developments. While the rolling mat technique was borrowed from Japan, it was adapted and applied to the creation of kimbap in Korea.
Kimbap itself, as a dish, has a long history in Korean cuisine. It predates the introduction of bamboo rolling mats from Japan. Kimbap is believed to have originated during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897) in Korea and was initially a simple and portable food made with rice and various fillings. However, the technique of tightly rolling and shaping kimbap using a bamboo mat came later, after the introduction of sushi from Japan.
During the Japanese colonial period in Korea (1910-1945), when there was significant cultural exchange and assimilation efforts, the Korean people observed the Japanese technique of using bamboo rolling mats to shape sushi. Recognizing the efficiency and convenience of this method, Koreans began to adopt the technique and apply it to their own version of rolled rice dish, which we now know as kimbap.
So, while the bamboo rolling mat itself was invented in Japan, its application to the creation of rolled kimbap in Korea was a Korean adaptation and innovation. It is an example of cultural exchange and the integration of ideas and techniques from one culture into another.

Komşular her zaman benzer kültürler paylaşırlar. İlk kim keşfetti ya da birlikte mi keşfetti kim bilir. Belki daha bir olduğumuz zamanlarda keşfedildi. Türklerinde diğer milletlerle paylaştığı çok yemek var 😂
