Wow. I just had a flashback of putting marbles in a frying pan on the stovetop to create the cracked glass marbles. I'm not recommending that but I grew up in an age of no seatbelts, no car seats, no bike helmets, metal toys, etc. (I can't believe we survived) but thanks for the blast to the past. Glass is so interesting to paint and watercolor is the perfect medium to "reflect" glass. (Pun intended) I purchased Lindsay's online glass class when it was on sale but I haven't started it yet. This video is a great teaser to get started on that class. Thanks Lindsay.

I need to watch a video a couple of times until I can see and hear exactly what you’ve said. So thank you for saying over and over to look for colours and listen. Ooh, you have The Red Marble! I had a couple sets of marbles when I was a kid, but only one marble was that beautiful red color. It was my very favorite marble and I loved coming across it when I played with my marbles. Of course, it was lost ages ago, but your painting made me remember. 😊
Such a pretty painting of glass marbles. Painting glass seems so difficult and tricky but seeing you apply the shadows and the values, while you paint, helps to understand the process. I love what you said about showing the beauty in the "ordinary," that others might not see. Thank you!

If you don’t have access to a store with the graphic circle tool, a spaghetti measurer from your kitchen also has different measuring circles that work. Mine is a cheap one that moved to my art supplies when my kids flew the nest and I stopped making huge batches of spaghetti.
Those Marbles came out so beautifully! I love the look of colored glass in sunlight. Whether it's marbles, cups or bottles. Anything just shiny and refractive and warmed by the light! TFS you make it look so easy! Sighhhh
It’s SO instructive hearing you think aloud as you paint! That big blue shooter has a whale face from about 9 - 10 o’clock... what has been seen cannot be unseen, lol! I love his flipper too!
It’s always fun to watch you have fun! I think this came out great! I’d like to try it when I get the time - and I used to have one of those circle templates but I haven’t been able to find it for a while now - I might have to break down and buy another. I’ll be sure to find it then🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
This is such a lovely painting! It is amazing how you really see the beauty in ordinary objects when you sketch or paint them, or even photograph them! I love watching you paint glass and round objects! It's amazing to watch them start to pop off the paper! (I wanted to tell you, my children make fun of me because I say, "I'm going to get a coffee and watch my Frugal Crafter Lindsay!" They say, "Mom, you always say 'MY Frugal Crafter'!" 🤭 Ahh well...you're the only frugal crafter I have, so they'll just have to get used to it! Haha!😄😄😄

The only thing I don't like as much is that the highlights on the table actually look like the marbles have little glass feet. Am I the only one who sees a cute little smiling face in the big blue marble? I completely want to paint a little skyscape in his mouth that at first look like teeth, but if you look closer it's concrete buildings lit by the moon of his eye. Would be so cool. But the painting is phenomenal even without my little bit of Rorschachian crazyiness. I can tell the moss from staying indoors has permeated my brain. Forgive me ;-).

Thanks, Lindsay, I will give this a try. Happy New Year! I miss your long weekly live watercolour classes. Have you ever used antipasto or modelling paste for watercolour? I would love to see classes with them because I bought them but there really is not much on line about using them.
Lindsay, maybe instead of masking fluid maybe gum Arabic or blending medium might work? And have you tried the Pebeo drawing gum works fantastic as a masking fluid. This is an excellent video thank you for sharing your technique.
A suggestion for a replacement for 35 mm film containers - if you know anyone who has diabetes, an unfortunate epidemic - the containers that have the test strips are very similar and have a very tight lock top. I am always looking for ways to not send things like this to the landfill!
Lovely! Does the addition of the colorless blending market change the lightfastness of any of the colored pencils you might use? I mean, if I'm choosing a colored pencil that is lightfast, would blending it with this product effect that negatively? (I was looking at the art n fly colorless blending markers, although I just realized I think I already have one in my ohuhu set. Hmmmm.)
Painted marbles are prettier than the real once.... And the shadows at bottom is amazingly done. Orange marble is my favorite.

I watched my mom crack the marbles in the frying pan and glue them Into a brooch. I wonder if I still have it. 🙂

For any fellow latex allergy suffers the Pebeo drawing gum is latex free! I believe the molotow Grafx is also latex free too 🙂

No, I've only used that type of thing for cardmaking. Let me think about it and see if I can come up with something:)
I use diabetes sugar test strip containers. Almost 35ml film size, similar snap lid and good waterproof seal.

I don't think it will however the more you dilute a color the less protection it has from fading.

Is it safe to use the zest it pencil blend on pencils that are layered over watercolour? Would it dissolve the paint underneath!? Thanks!
I have not used zest it but if it's a solvent it should be fine. Test on s scrap first to be sure.
