Fine-Tuning Kerf Settings on My Arcdroid - Precision Adjustments in Action!

  • In this video, someone in the comments was curious if I ever messed with the kerf settings on my Arcdroid. Honestly, I didn't bother measuring every cut and adjusting based on that. What I did was grab a bunch of settings from @amp_mechanic and tweaked a few things from there. So, in this video, I'm gonna walk you through making some test cuts and fine-tuning the kerf to dial in a more accurate value. Join me as we break down the process and get those cuts on point!

Thanks for doing this vid, it is only one question of many I have. I have never used a CNC machine before, only used a plasma cutter twice. I bought a cheap plasma cutter, a Yeswelder CUT55DS-PRO. Then I bought an Arcdroid, I had no idea if the plasma cutter would work with the Arcdroid. I wired the trigger the way Andrew showed in his vid and to my surprise, it worked. With the kerf, I have no idea what size tip is in my torch, I cant find a number. I tried cutting a one inch circle, but it was 3/8" bigger. I played with the kerf setting but it didn't change much. It turns out, I need to learn the left, right or center cuts. Also, what is an average pierce height and cut height? As you can tell, I'm as green as they come, I will be binging on your videos. Thanks

I don't want to come across as an expert, I was much like you a year ago. Your plasma cutter should tell you the proper cut height. The manual for mine specifies .06" or 1.5mm, I'm using .120" for the pierce height. I don't recall where I got that value. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Yeah, I don't do a lot of that, but it is powerful. I did a bit when I patched the holes in my bronco bumper. Here's the video: th-cam.com/video/YXBifI6PKFE/w-d-xo.html

That video was mostly simple circles, the video after that was a bracket for the bumper and used the stylus for a more complicated shape. th-cam.com/video/uxPjT_BLxS4/w-d-xo.html

Great info thanks. Curious if you have the newest update firmware installed, i believe there was another release since your firmware vid.
My arcdroid will not retain the date time after its powered off it reverts back to year 2000. I even replaced the on board cr2023 battery.
Andrew is a little stumped i think so I am curious if anything in the latest release breaks the time date settings. Would you mind checking yours?
Not many folks probably go back to check the date settings after updating after its set.

I haven't looked at the date time I'll take a look as soon as I get a chance and respond here. Good catch I didn't realize there was a newer firmware released.

Sorry it took so long to get back into the garage. I checked and sure enough my date is also 2000. I didn't update to the most recent firmware either. I didn't think to set it and cycle power, just checked while I was in there.

@6.8liter74 - I figured it was more than just me. Reachnout to Andrew, I have been working with him on it and just received today a new pair of firmware updates today to correct it. I can verify it did fix the issue. Thanks again
