  • This video shows how to modify the Jinbei 120cm Deep Octa (really a Hexadecagon Softbox) by stitching the rods in place. Also shows set-up and taking down of this light modifier.

    I have the same problem with rods sliding out of both the speedring & the softbox been thinking about just using some epoxy glue and see if that would work, I'm not up for dinking around with a needle and thread.

      Though that is an easier solution, i'm thinking though that any hardening glue on a flexible and movable parts shall cause separation later on and may actually be more of a pain later. It's your investment.

    Just a check-in, Marlo - how has this held up in the last year? Still using it? Yours is one of the few videos I've been able to find about this deep octa. I ordered one, but I'm a little nervous that the quality might disappoint once it eventually arrives. I've had some experience with the much more expensive Westcott Zeppelin, which is really solid. I appreciate the Jinbei for its Elinchrome-style speed ring (the Zeppelin is a monster to construct.) I'd love to hear about your experience with it several months later.

      James Jordan i'm primarily using it in studio. I have the Glow parapop i use outdoors. So having said that my deep octa is still in good shape. I am happy with the quality of light it gives me. It is a pretty durable softbox with some care in it's use.

      Marky Mark i like using the Glowparapop outdoors for easy setup. I can open it fully in a few seconds and close it as quickly. Not so well with the Jinbei i do prefer the light of the Jinbei however but you really need someone holding it to shoot outdoors. It is a big sail and prone to getting knocked off.

    Don't they pop out of the mount plate as well? I have a Jinbey Beauty Dish and unlike you I have a problem with the other end :)

      The rods on mine are mechanically pinned to the ring plate so I don't have this problem on this one.

      Thanks for your response. I am asking because on the internet you find it umbrella like and in your video it is like elinchrom. Thanks

      Alex M definitely not umbrella. It's a deep octa with bowens mount too. Here's a link of what i found at ebay at this time. I like this one for it comes with the grid. Hope this helps you.
      Look at this on eBay:

    Marlo Oronce, where did you buy this at & prices?
    It should fit onto HD-610?

    • @marlooronce9154
      @marlooronce9154  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i got it off ebay for around $185. It uses the Bowens mount and from the looks of it your HD-610 is a Bowens mount so that should work. I use my 38" Glow ParaPop more now though. $229.95 from Adorama

      So would the Jinbei be 47" (120cm) while the Glow ParaPop is 38"?
      Those two numbers are from the front opening, right?

    • @marlooronce9154
      @marlooronce9154  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you are correct. Don't get me wrong, I still love using this Jinbei 47" Octa in studio. I do however use the 38" ParaPop more both indoors and out. I'm waiting for a larger version of Glow ParaPop to come out, for the light weight and ease of setup and takedown that it offers.

      My staff and I have been using this made by ATG for Selens:
      * 60"
      * Uses on Bowens Mount like ATG Gold 1,000ws (2x power of B1)
      * Selens 60 Inch 16 Rods Portable Umbrella Brolly Reflector Octagon
      Softbox with Bowens Mount
      * Great prices
      If it get damages, I won't cry.
      So would 60" do for you, Marlo Oronce?
