Bonjour, Benjamin ! I had a question. I'm looking at building my own lyre, and was wondering if it is absolutely necessary for the top of soundboard to lay flush with the top of the limbs. Many builds I've seen have the soundboard that way, but I currently do not have the equipment or the expertise to pull that off. Cheers!
Benjamin Simao I suppose I could clarify what I mean a little. Most instructions I've seen for building a lyre call for the area of the body over which the soundboard will sit to be planed or sanded to a level at which the soundboard will sit flush ( «au même niveau» ) with the limbs prior to hollowing out the body. My question is: how would it affect the structural integrity and tone of the lyre if this is not done, if it affects it at all?
