The IO's job is to assess the adequacy of the candidates in the parameters given. He has total freedom in how he fulfils his mandate. The IO does not have to follow the guidelines explained to aspirants by the coaching academies. You have been surprised because you were expecting him to ask questions as taught in a coaching academy. If you had focused on self-improvement, rather than the CIQs & rehearsed answers, you would not have been surprised or concerned & probably performed better.
