Without the success of this song, Lil Kim likely would not have had the promotion and backing she had with her extra raunchy debut album. Not saying Adina opened the doors, but she and others helped to push it wide open. This song surprisingly went to #2 on the hot 100. It got stuck behind Montell Jordan's massive hit "this is how we do it." It seemed all but assured that Adina would get a second album. Then some crazy behind the scenes drama happened which led to her getting dropped from her label and blacklisted from the upper echelon of the industry. She was label mates with Brandy. When Brandy was 15 she recorded the song "Brokenhearted" with Wanya from Boyz 2 Men who was 21 at the time. The two started secretly dating around the time the video for "Brokenhearted" was shot. A few months later Adina and Wanya were working on her second album. Adina hooked up with Wanya during that time while he was dating Brandy. Things got really heated between Brandy and Adina. Not sure if they actually came to blows but they were getting close. Word got to Sylvia Rhone who was the head of their label, Sony, at the time. She told Adina to forget about Wanya and focus on her second album. Adina didn't like Brandy running to her boss and didn't like the boss siding with Brandy--who was the star of the label. She went on the Wendy Williams radio show and blasted both Slyvia Rhone and Brandy. Even though the first single from her second album was released, Sylvia stopped all promotion and shelved her second album indefinitely. She was eventually dropped from the label. Few in the business wanted to work with her thereafter for fear of crossing Sylvia Rhone. After dropping Adina, Sylvia Rhone went out of her way to squash the rumors about Brandy and Wanya. Most people didn't realize what went down back then until Adina spoke about it recently. For Brandy's part, she was madly in love with Wanya and was taking the cheating really hard when she went to Sylvia. That's in part why Slyvia told Adina to back off because Adina did not have those feelings for Wanya. It was all about sex and her ego at that point. Unbeknownst to Adina, Sylvia, also advised Brandy to focus on her music. I had cousins that were smitten with Wanya Morris. For the life of me, I couldn't understand it.
