It’s none of my business but I am so sad 😢to see Ken go. He is a doll and is my favorite.❤️
How good you sell Bill 16 I don’t know how many years you had lost without you😢
You have to understand he can’t keep all of those horses ! It cost a lot to feed them as well
Let him do what he needs to do for his life …
@@toriwolf5978 I get it that a farm needs to be sustainable, but feelings do exist.. and Ken knows where his home is. Ugh! What about renting him out?
I’m so sad about you letting Ken go but if he goes I won’t be watching you anymore, cause I love ❤️ Ken very much.😢😢
Mine too.
As a Old Horseman from Atlantic Canada, I whole heartily agree with Jim and Brenda on their decision to sell the 2 fillies Bree and June to an experienced horsemen or horsewomen who would be able to develop sometime and invest a few years of training in them Both the Filliies have had some great ground training and have great barn manners as well. . I could in a few years the full sisters making a decent team of mares. As far as Ken the Percheron Gelding is concerned, if a retired person who would be looking for a well trained and good natured driving or garden horse Ken would fit the bill perfectly. Jim is right Ken needs a bit semi daily work to keep the celienosis in check. With Jim's busy work schedule logging and farming . The 2 teams of Bill & Duke and Baron & Earl are definitely suffiecent to do the work . Also Lady has the new foal coming in the spring. It's really important that Jim and Brenda keep focused on their future plans.
Ken and Buck. Where such an astounding pair together.
The shine of their coats. The way they both worked. Was a dream team.
Ken and Buck were the reason I found your channel.
I had my granddaughter was sitting on my lap to keep her out of the kitchen. She loves to go on wagon rides with me so I pulled up TH-cam to entertain her with some videos of horses that look like mine. Working Horses With Jim with his team of blacks was the first thing listed.
I've been watching and learning ever since.
When your running a farm , that’s part of the farm life selling some stock off , doing what he needs to do for their life,,..
@@toriwolf5978 Faro horses rest so it is often a Need to have more than just one team. When one has a need to plough a fab in one day more than one team is a necessity unless you're the sort of person willing to overwork his horses. JIM tends to underwork them. &That's Why He Will Sell Them Early well-broken work-horses are like gold dust when you're setting farming with horses. it is one of the essential needs, all his horse stock works well Les England if I were starting out or the college he works at I would snap them up.
Feeling it for ole Kenny, one of my favorites but very understandable as we said the other day you have too many to deal with. Praying they get good homes
I wish I had a place for Ken, he is one of my favorite horses! He is awesome!
I understand, Ken needs to be worked he's just standing round being bored. The only thing is who ever gets our sweetheart ❤ Ken must treat him well and respect what a good horse he is, and keeps I touch with you as to how he's getting on with pictures so we can see.Take good care of your shoulder Jim...sending warm hugs Brenda 💞💐
Sorry to hear that you are selling Ken, he is your rock
I love Ken. He is such a good horse. Please sell him to someone who won't sell him for slaughter. I hope someone good will want to buy him.
I was thinking the same thing 😢so many horses end up at the slaughter pipe line , please make sure that he does have a nice home 😊
I understand that having to manage herd size at some point. Im sure that you and Brenda will make sure they go to good homes 🏡
Much respect to both of you.
Jim. Ken’s a heartbreaker. As he’s steady hard working. And so easy going.
I can understand the fillies going.
I hope and pray they all go to good homes who give them all the care they all deserve.
Warmest. Regards.
I figured this was inevitable for some time, and kudos to you for having the sense to see it has to happen. I worked for a guy years ago who would never part with any of his horses, even as he kept breeding more, and he ended up starving them. A responsible horseman does just what you've been doing: raise them well, train them well, and sell them on. If you've done your job well, they will have no trouble finding a good home. I'm sorry to see the fillies go, I was looking forward to watching them learn the ropes, but since you hurt your shoulder, breaking them in will be tough. They will make a great team for someone else.
I love Ken.
I've always liked Ken, I'm kinda partial to Percherons. I nearly cried when you lost Buck, even though I had never seen him in person.
Ken has served Jim well. He's a good boy, calm and faithful. Now he's to be sold to someone who may not have the smarts or compassion to look after Ken and his foot as he should. Ken's foot flares up and then he's sold as meat or is put down. In my view, Jim should keep him, use him and let him retire as a friend, companion and a faithful horse. But that's just me. A lot of these hard core horse people don't seem to think that way...
Ken is definitely my favorite as well. He's such a gentle giant, so kind and patient. I hate to see him go. We will miss you sweet Kenny!
This is a golden opportunity to purchase quality horses. I wouldn't wait too long to contact Jim!
I'm sure you will be very thoughtful in the re-homing of these horses. I hope you are healing up well.
Glad to hear you are getting better. With the horses I know it had to be a very hard decision especially Ken. Your logic is very sound. Ken would be perfect for someone starting out and he would benefit from being worked instead of just hanging out in the pasture. I will continue to pray for your healing and pray that if the horses are sold they will get good homes. Do what’s best for everyone involved. Behind you 100 percent.
Sure wish you lived closer. Would be interested in Ken. I just laid my old 29 yr old mare to rest and been feeling like a part of me went with her. Still have the two young teams I'm working, but really more power for spring work...disc and cultivator can handle 6, 5 minimum. I hope he finds a good home. Love those Blacks.
For me, I noticed a change in his demeanor after Buck died. Personally, I don’t think he has ever recovered and it also seemed to be when Jim quit using Ken. Yes on occasion he would work him, but Ken and Buck was his LOGGING team as was Bill and Lady. Then the colts and Baron arrived and a complete shift within the farm took place. It has seemed the older horses have been set aside for faster and stronger horses. They are barely used anymore; scared Ken will get caught up in the kill-pens if gets in the wrong hands. IMO😢😢😢
Yes, Ken and Buck. An awesome logging team. Beautiful. So good at what they did. I feel a tear coming on.
Lucky new owners. This is the hard part of logging and farming. I hope that you find the perfect new home for our friends quickly.
So sorry to see Ken go. 😭💔❤️🙏
The first time I saw your channel, Buck and Ken were pulling a UPS truck out of a snowy ditch. That got me hooked. I subscribed and have watched ever since. I cried when Buck died. Ken was always my favorite. I understand what you have to do, but I will miss him.
Me too.. It won't be the same without him.
I can understand the need to pass on the blessing of such fine horse's. You just can't keep them all. You have made choices that fit your plans moving forward. I'm sure it's not easy to make decisions like this. May your healing be fast! All thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
Thank you Jim and Brenda sorry to see the three beautiful horses have to move on but you know what you have to do in your business. Of course I’ll miss them especially ole Ken moving at his own speed!!! Blessings on all the horses especially the three!!
you're 100% doing the right thing, you're helping other people and someone might get started who wouldn't be able to otherwise.
Sorry to see them go but I also understand in farm life tough decisions sometimes have to be made for the good of the farm. Hope you are healing well Jim.
I'm glad to hear you're healing nicely Jim. I'm saddened at your decision to sell but understand. I pray they get good, loving homes and are able to live out their lives with love and dignity.
Saw the trouble rounding up the horses after your injury. That likely made you realize some decisions needed to be made. But it's so hard for me as a viewer, to let go of Ken, and those two wonderful fillies, Bri & June. 😢
Praying the all go to good people, who will treat & train the them with kindness. 🙏
And not to the Amish or some other person to be worked to exhaustion and then to slaughter as broken abused animals in 15 - 18 years' time. I thought that Jim was going to keep Ken and he would retire gracefully, eventually ending up alongside his teammate Buck. But the reality is that very few people who work horses commercially set up a retirement plan for their servants of many years.
@@onepup-pr3yl Exactly.. they get shipped off the the Mexican pipe line... You can see their ribs.. alot of injuries... poor things. Not fair.
Hi Jim we understand sometimes we must make a choices who stay and who’s goes as long they find a good homes,I know it’s hard as we were registered breeder of Labrador retriever for over 30 years but we always try our best to find them a great homes,we cannot keep them all, sads but its life changing.we loved yours horses especially Ken and Bree.
Glad you are doing better.. I m going to miss Ken I hope he goes to a good home.
Oh my! We got our farm in November and would absolutely be interested in Ken! However we also lost our disabled daughter in November and she was my job I was her more than full time caregiver here in Colorado we can be paid for looking after adult children so unfortunately we don’t have the finances for him. We have a beautiful 16 stall barn and 40 acres and lots of trees he could help clean up ooo it breaks my heart. But I am sure he will be taken by someone who will love and use him! Those little girls would make somebody an awesome team!
After years of watching your channel it greatly pains me to even think that Ken would leave. It was with broken heart to hear of Ken's stable mate...the other Black's death due to colic. Now,not having any blacks wrenches my heart. Even though you own the horses,us viewers feel like we own them as well. A kindred spirit. I am both sad and happy. I am a former owner of lots of horses. I know and feel your dilemma. It is all for the best no matter how painful. Good luck. And the new owner will be blessed with their purchase.
Ken is part of the pack!
I have to admit I shed some tears for the horses, but understand your decision. Change is hard, but that is life. I will miss Brenda talking to Kenny and watching the training of the fillies. But we have Lady’s foal to look forward to. I’m sure this is very hard for you. Thanks for sharing.
Ken has always been my favorite ❤
I hope you are choosing the new owners carefully. Anyone who gets them will be very lucky. I will miss all of them. I was looking forward to seeing the girls working together but I understand
Are U sad about letting them go? I absolutely understand & support your decision ; we as viewers get attached. God Bless - we trust you will find them excellent homes!!
whomever adopts any of these horses will be Very Lucky!
Am so pleased that your shoulder is healing well! Ken will be missed, but I understand you have to do what you must for your family and business. I love Bree and June! They are such beauties and anyone who gets them will be so happy. May you, Brenda and, of course Skippy and all the kitties and cows continue to be so blessed! ♥
Man, if I had the available land and cash I would absolutely take ken. I think His easygoing attitude and slower pace would be perfect for me to get started with farming with horse drawn equipment.
Understand but the fillies are so fun to watch - Awwwww!!
Hope the Sisters go together !!
Me too!! The girls are beautiful 🐴🐴❤
Time for John from the down the trail logging to step in and make the fillies his second team.😊
man. if this was a year or two in the future, i'd jump on the offer of Ken. Dream is to work horses in harness, but, currently have practically raw land, and my current horse is already boarded off property while we build our barn. Good luck in finding the right landing zone for all three! :)
all the best for your future..
IMO all your horses are beautiful and understandably, one has to do what one has to do but for myself I'll be missing Ken and if I were in the same business I would be wanting to purchase sweet Bree. That being said; I'm sure you will find perfect homes for all three horses and wishing you Jim, a speedy and full recovery.
Wow! I couldn't believe it when i saw it. I know this is very hard for you Jim mostly selling Ken. but im sure as I've gotten to know you you make smart decisions and i can see where it all makes perfect sense... good luck.. oh and im crossing my fingers that the 2 sisters will go together that would surely make someone a very nice team...
Totally understand your reasoning for selling, especially Ken. He is such a great horse and just sitting around doing next to nothing is not helping his leg. 😊 He would be the perfect teacher for a newbie and not to forget, he is used to work and being useful. Not every horse enjoys doing nothing. 😉 And he is the perfect age to move on.
It's always a hard decision to sell horses, but I would consider how the horses might respond. Ken would take it hardest to adjust to new environs since he has been around the longest. The younger horses can probably cope the easiest. Horses are no pieces of furniture, they have minds and therefore sentiments.
I know you will make sure they go to good homes, but it still worries me that they (especially Ken) could end up in the hands of a kill-buyer and shunted into the slaughter pipeline. PLEASE make sure that does NOT happen!
🙏💔🙏
Been thinking of that all day. With draft horse rescues, Ken needs to go to one. He will b safe!!!❤❤
I'm glad you are mending and you know what is best
Surprising news😯. Must have been a long hard decision! I was looking forward to see the two fillies grow up and you training them 🐴🐴Hope they get boughten as a team and the people give you regular up dates about them. All the best😇🤠🇨🇦
You are making wise decisions as a business man but I know it is rough for you guys‼️ So glad you are improving ❤️ take care my friends ❤️👋
Jim I am an old farmer like you broke arm but still had to milk cows like you had improve and do things with one hand I feel for you but with gods help like me you will get better
oh not Ken :( , but the way you explain it makes a lot of sense
So glad your feeling better Jim ❤ it’s time to sell some as getting to many for you to handle good luck finding them forever homes, that’s part of farm life selling some, love you both !!!
Who ever gets him will be getting a gem! He is way more worth than what Jim is selling him for. ❤
A wise decision to be made that wasn't taken lightly I know! Hope they will all find good homes by one or a few of our subscribers. Bri and June can carry on the legacy if they can be of good use for work and breeding good quality stock of work horses.
Ken would make a wonderful single logging horse for some one with a small operation. We had one horse when I was young used to rake hay only in the summer, but worked every day in the woods all winter long. You need a quiet easy going horse in the woods.
Hello Brenda and Jim. Glad your shoulder is getting better ...keep taking it easy.
So sorry to hear the 'Young Ladies' are going to a new home ... hopefully they can stay together. I've greatly enjoyed watching them since birth.
I see some other comments refer to 'Dog Food'....I don't like to think about that process. We all know that all horses aren't loved as yours. Have you ever, and under what circumstances would you consider that route? Is part of the sale agreement going to be that the old guy continues working for as long as possible?
Take care
Thank you for sharing Jim. You are going to make some buyers very happy people. 🐴🐴🐴
Ken?.........oh no. He is beautiful.
I’m so sad to see any of your horses go, but I do understand the need to cut back.
NOT KEN! He’s such a gentle soul and I will miss him so much. I hope he finds a good home and is allowed to retire and enjoy the rest of his time. 💔
So sorry to see Ken to go. I'm sad to see any of them to go but I understand. You have to do what is right for your situation. I've missed a lot of your recent videos due to just being busy. I wish I was in a situation to buy one or all them but I'm not. I've wanted a team of draft horses my whole life but hopefully one day.
Thanks again for putting out your videos. I've learned so much. I really appreciate the effort you put into them. ❤
Oh man I wish I was in a position to get Ken! He’s an amazing horse
Hi. Oh no not ken nobody will take care of an old horse then you. Sorry to hear Ken is going
I understand Jim's position and do not question his judgement.
I have a team of Percheron mares about Ken's age that don't really do too much work anymore.
My team of four year olds easily do all the work.
I've decided firmly against selling the older team because of the way they have taken care of my family and taught me many lessons, and to your point, no one else will take care of them like us.
I'm glad you are doing well Jim. So sad to hear about Ken he's my favorite.
Totally understand your thinking. It is difficult for you, I'm sure. Ken has been so steady, and the happy prospect of seeing Bree and Bailey (June) work as a team will be gone, so I am sad. Wish I had the youth to be a prospective buyer, but that ship has sailed.
😞😞 While I understand this is the reality of farming, it still makes me sad to see Ken and the fillys get sold! They feel like family.
Even though this is an extremely hard decision I think it is absolutely necessary for you and Brenda as well as the horses as new owners that you trust will give the horses the exercise they need.
I've sold a lot of good horses over the years for one reason or another and it's always a little sad. But if people never sold horses, other people would never have the great opportunity to own them. I'm sure you'll find them very good homes.
Jim & Breanda someone is going to get some nice horses
💚love and Peace to you all 💚Who Feels it Knows it 💚
I am sorry to you Jim and Brenda. I am sure it was very difficult deciding this. I absolutely have interest in taking all 3 horses. Unfortunately I'm in MN and it wouldn't be practical. They especially Ken are dear to my heart. ❤ I truly had hoped for them to stay with you, you take such great care of them, there's so much worry about horses will end up when they leave where they are used loved and cared for about where they will end up. I pray you find only the best possible homes for them where they can have a great life as you have given them.
Ken is so incredibly wonderful. I hope he gets a wonderful new home. He would be great for someone needing a solid driving horse. What a sweetheart he is. He’s just perfect! Please be sure he goes to the perfect person.
Sad to see the younger ones go to someone who might not do as good of a job with training as Jim would. Jim is so good at it. That’s the down side of selling them at such a young age. But I’m sure you will match them with the right people for them.
I must say, though, that my stomach dropped when you said Ken’s name. 😢 I will miss him. But I understand where you are coming from.
Some tough decisions for you jim Ken was the tough one I feel regards Pete 👍
Omg I wish I could purchase your fillies! I'll be moving out to the farm this year hopefully, not soon enough! I love your horses.
Ken makes more sense for me probably. He's such a good boy. I love them all equally
Dear Brenda and Jim,
I would like to thank you for all the great videos you've posted over the past few years.
It brought my Dad, Ron Bennett great joy to watch and this was the last one he viewed.
Last Tuesday morning, Dad had a major stroke. We brought him home, and my siblings and I were blessed to care for him.
Dad peacefully passed Saturday morning.
Dad would have been 94 on Monday(February 10), Mom turned 90 today.
She's doing OK for now. I will continue to care for her as I have done for them both these last 4 years.
I am at peace knowing Dad is home with GOD and he's joined my team of guardian 😇 angels.
Thank you for all the letters you sent. He loved having you for "penpals".
Dina Bennett-Peck
Hi Dina, so sorry to hear of Ron's passing. We have enjoyed his many letters over the years.I know he has appreciated all you have done to care for him and your mom, tell her happy birthday for us, Jim.
You broke my heart today. 💔 I LOVE your horses. I can easily understand selling the fillies, because you can't just keep having more and more horses, but Ken is a loyal old friend who deserves to live out his time on your farm. If I had the money, I would pay ALL his expenses for you to keep him forever. I would also pay you extra for the work of keeping him. Maybe I identify with Ken because I am 80 and creeping toward my own exit. We don't eat our older chickens, we let them become "retirees" and help keep the bugs down when they stop laying. Please don't be offended by my comment. I know that how you run your farm is your own business. The animal lover in me just couldn't help itself. If I had a trillion dollars, I would build no-kill animal refuges. It's the old animals who need the most help and kindness (just like humans). I especially love Ken, precisely because he is such a nice gentle boy. 🐴❤❤❤❤
Your comment truly touched my heart. ❤ I completely understand your love for Ken-he’s such a special, gentle soul, and saying goodbye is never easy. Your kindness and deep compassion for animals, especially the older ones, is so inspiring. 🐴💖 Please know that every decision is made with their best interest in mind, even when it’s incredibly hard. Thank you for sharing your love and perspective-it means so much. Sending you and your 'retired' chickens lots of appreciation! 🐔💕
I totally agree.. Totally!
Totally Agree.. I feel the same way about Ken. It hurt when Buck passed .. now that black beauty will be gone from the pack......Really hoping you can Rent his services out, but he can stay with you and the herd. 💔
So sad about Ken. My favorite; and I wish I could buy him.
I know from experience how it is with reluctants you are parting with the three horses...my hope and prayers are that they would go to someone who will treat them as you treat all your horses
Necessity is the mother of invention .Bravo Jim and Brenda.😊😊😊
The new owners can send videos to keep us updated. Just avoid to let them end up as dog food.
Love and enjoy your videos. May the lord bless and protect you Jim.
I’d be happy to be a retirement ranch for any one of these cuties. ❤
Tough decision! Hope they all find good homes. Would love to see the fillies go on to be a team.
Glad to know you're feeling better Jim I've been praying for you and Brenda.
And we pray that God will send the right people to purchase Kenny June and Brie; and that you will get the price that you are asking for them, in Jesus name amen
😇🙏🕊️🙏😇
Amen!!!
Ken will be missed. Bree is a beautiful young filly. June has spunk.
Great Video Great Horse's
Ken was a great mentor he will be a great asset for someone who need a horse like Ken.hugs for Ken 😢
I love all your horses 👍👍👍
As a newbie to driving horses, I wish I was closer Jim. 👍✌️
I love June she was born on my dad’s birthday 👍👍👍
I always find it difficult to get rid of your own animals. Despite everything, you have built a bond with them. It is a little easier with the two youngest. There the personal bond is a little more tenuous. And Lady still has time to appoint successors. I can also understand the choice with Ken. Ken is an extremely good colleague for his new owner. Ken has the quality to teach you as a person how to deal and work with horses. You don't have to teach Ken something, no Ken teaches you something. And if you, as the new owner, understand that and want to see that. Well then you have the best team around... Jim and Family, I wish you the best of luck with your sales plans. And hope for a new addition from Lady.
I totally understand about Ken. He could be such a good companion &/or show horse for a older teen 4-H-er or light farmwork.
Every horse young enough & healthy should have a "job"/purpose.
Wise decision!
Sorry to see Ken going. After 17 years he has been so dedicated to working for you in exchange for be well cared for. I know you say he is working horse and not a pet, but after 17 I feel it is like a dog, you committed to keeping and caring for him for his life.
I like Ken he is such a handsome guy, and it looks like he still has some good years left. I hope the person who buys Ken will give him a forever home even when he's not able to work anymore. I watch other channels where they buy horses from auctions to save them from going to slaughter. I would not want to see any of those three go some place like that. Bree and June would make a great team. I hope someone with experience will buy them both and train them to be a hard working team. They could even breed them. I can understand needing to cut down on the number of horses and keeping the ones that are best for the jobs you need them for. Hope someone that watches this channell will be able to buy them and appreciate the time that was put into their training and care.
God bless you both, it must have been hard to make that huge decision!
😢Yes, I hope the fillies can move on together. The next two foals will be coming on at about the right time for the next team.
Bill will always be remembered for his steadfastness and heart. Maybe he can find a partner who fits him.
