I live in NM and have some desert land that drains into a fair sized arroyo. I am looking at doing something similar to capture the rainfall instead of it just flowing into the arroyo. I will likely do a combination of keyline, swales and ponds as diverting some water flow from the smaller tributary arroyos. It is great to see some young people like you two doing this. Best of luck to your venture.
Don’t bother with swales unless you have yearly flooding. The key lines will create channels and ridges. Run these closer together so you catch more water. A keyline channel every metre is my suggestion.
My uncle bought PA Yeomans first farm, at Richmond nsw, after Yeomans moved to the Kiewa Valley. My uncle later sold that farm and moved to a larger farm, growing fodder on contract. He worked that farm for many years and it was 4 times more productive when he retired as when he bought it.

Well great show, how often will you have to redo the rips? How much rain do you guys get? I am guessing that dry stream bed is maybe a 2 to 3% fall, just enough to move soil.

Hi :). The main update is that we did seeding. We seeded 150lbs a very diverse seed mix in November last year. We seeded mostly on the lines that we ripped. The field is currently under snow. The real updates and results will begin as Spring begins and we start to irrigate the field.
I am assuming it didn't work as planned since so much time has gone by, and if it didn't that is too bad, but also too bad that the experience, good or bad, has not been shared and learned, as opposed to just not saying a word. Unless maybe it would affect your chance of a grant or loan. Still, I would also feel it could be the learning that allows you to get a grant or loan. NO idea, but please just let us know how it worked out. Even if it didn't work, what could be changed or added to improve the outcome. ANd yes covid is a good excuse :-) but a lot of people are anxious to see your results good or bad we are all rooting for you. Just let us know. in fact, I am sure if you didn't have success there are people that could work with you here to make adjustments or additions to succeed. Have a nice day....
I agree on the price of the Yeoman's plow. I don't know why NRCS, or Conservation department of each state don't have this kind of machine for people to use as a loan or rent if their goals is to help people regenerate/build soil. As much as we are trying to use permaculture to regenerate our land, we didn't qualify for grant, and we have to do jump so many hoops/rules/regulations have to meet which are opposite from permaculture method...just doesn't make sense to me but I understand it's the people in the office who has no knowledge about how to work with nature, although they claim they do but not the permaculture way. So now we just have to do what we can with our budget which is a slow and small step, but we will perseverance and keep going...that's all we can do. Thank you.
That is a possibility. Although, just scanning through the titles on your youtube page, does your community have the ability to fabricate? Rippers are not too expensive. I think the benefits of always having the machine on site are pretty important. Do you have a tractor with a 3 point hitch?

In this video, we started with a ripper and modified the tips with Yeoman's plow tips. That is probably the most cost effective way

Hi. Here is some basic information on a bioreactor. www.csuchico.edu/regenerativeagriculture/bioreactor/david-johnson.shtml The research and method was created from Dr. David Johnson. Most of the results of his research have involved spraying the extract over the fields and inoculating the seed with the compost that comes from the bioreactor. Our method of injection is an experiment to see if injection is also a good method to use. The idea is that the extract has a high concentration of fungi and that direction injection may be the best way to get that fungi into the soil.
