When the "Cowboy" era began, Cap and ball pistols were being used. They transitioned to cartridge guns by the end. America's first "Gunfighter" James Hickock, used cap and ball pistols mostly. His favorite being the 1851 Colt Navy. (But I am sure "experts" out there have different opinions)
yes he was famous for his love of his 36's. Sadly i havent seen any 36 navys in reproduction (the ones that claim to be Navy models are only in 44 which is Army caliber)
I have a replica colt peace maker and two models of Winchester model 1873. I don't fire them often (.45 long colt ammo is not inexpensive), but I love them. I grew up in the 1950s and 60s when there were many Western TV shows. And they all had these guns, so when I grew up and had a little money, these were among the first guns I bought.
You mentioned that .45 long Colt ammunition is not inexpensive. You are right about that. The only way I can afford to target shoot with my .45 revolver is to reload for it. The only .45 long Colt to be had off the shelf here is what is called “cowboy action” which has a much smaller measure of powder in it. The cowboy action shooters are shooting at short range and the smaller amount of powder lessens recoil so it’s easier to fan the gun. Btw, I have noticed that when western movie actors fan their six shooter, the guns muzzle jumps around and wondered if actually hit the target. Next time you watch a western movie, watch the gun muzzle instead of the intended target while the actor is fanning it. You don’t always get to see that.
The double action pre dates the Peacemaker. Before Dr.Gatling's weapon there were others fast shooting, multi barrel weapons. The Spencer was highly reliable. Even at distances over 300 yards (long range for 1860). I own one. BTW, the US Gov'n. 45 Rifle was Not fragile. Read up on what William Bull put them through before OKing the design. His test are still in use today. BTW, William Bull is where we get the phrase "Bullseye." Because part of his accuracy test for the rifle required that the rifle be able to put a bullet is a six foot diameter circle at 1000 yards. He used to hit center, the Bullseye.
The S&W...but I should mention. If I remember my high school mags, the stopping power on these babies is scary. You have to watch your background with S&W.
No one ever talks about the Colt navy, THE cowboy gun, the colt single action was a really expensive gun, so 99% of the cowboys just used old cap and ball colt navys that were modified to shoot metal cartridges
Talking about the peace maker the first gun you show is Clint Eastwood with a Colt walker. You start talking about a Gatling gun the first gun you show is a turn of the century Maxim gun! Poorly researched or edited vid!!!
I think the Gatlin Machine gun came before the Maxim Machine gun. I read that Maxim ment S.V. on a train and thought that it would make modern warfare unacceptabe. S.V. doubted his assesment. prior WW1.
Good resume, but sometimes on the video you showed a different weapon from the one you were speaking about (for example by the Colt Peacemaker or the Gettling Gun).
No problem revolvers are Ruger New Vaquero, but a nicer and more accurate revolver is Pietta 1873 revolver but I had to have a local gunsmith work on it and put some locktight on screws. Pietta may have fixed the problems by now when they figured out that Americans do not use their revolvers as "wall hangers". Feels and shoots good now. I love the Japanese Winchester '73 in .357.
Your commentary does not match the photos in a lot of the presentation. An example is a Remington derringer photo while describing a Deringer #1, which also was a muzzle loader.
The Video mixes pictures of the Gatling gun with water cooled machine guns. The machine guns use the power of firing to operate. Gatling guns are traditionally hand cranked, but modern versions may use electric power
The Schofield model 3 will be my pistol of choice Over The Peacemaker and I would definitely take you to the double barrel shotgun or maybe even a Winchester 73
Sehr schön, aber falls das keine Computerstimme ist: Versuche mal bitte, langsam und deutlich zu sprechen. Und bitte ohne diese leiernde Satzmodulation.
So much rubbish. Clint Eastwood is not firing a Colt 1873, but a Starr 1858. Buffalo Bill probably owned a lot of guns, as he got pretty rich. But he used a Colt Navy 1851 when he used a gun for real. Wyatt Earp used a Smith & Wesson. And, no, that's not a Gatling. And so on.
@@maddhatter3564 Just a myth. Most likely, he never even saw one. The only "record" of it, is in the biography, but the autor admitted later that he added this after Earp's death. Earp testamented his collection of guns to a friend, and what do you know. There was no Buntline there.

Real cowboys will know that you can get the Bolt action rifle as early as Chapter 2 🤠
Can you tell me how to get the bolt action rifle in Read Dead Redemption 2?
@@Ididitlikethis2079I'm pretty sure you get it on that one mission with Lenny? I think it's a random mission

Whaaaaat !?
A lot of these guns were made in New Haven CT and Springfield MA you can still see the plants but none of the machines are there anymore.
Anyone else noticed that when he talked about the gatling gun it showed a maxium machine gun first.
Yes that was computer generated, looked like a scene from "red dead redemption" video game series.
Yeah
…and elephant guns when talking about double barrel shotguns.
Yep saw that immediately
The first picture at 2:25 is a 1917 Browning fired by William Holden in the movie The Wild Bunch.

Very good weapons. If I had to pick one I would say The Peacemaker

Who ever edited this video needs to go back to school if they don't know that the photo used for the Gatling wasn't, that was a Maxim design
Eastwood was shooting a star revolver not a colt.

depends on the cartridge
Great tiems of the old west
These guns remind me of a man with a plan and his posse

Misleading. Example showing 1851 navy while discussing 1873 revolvers & showing Browning while discussing Gatling.
That was a Star revolver .
