This is how comedy is supposed to be taken, not personally but with joy, fun and humour. It's a show demonstrating ignorance and it done with humour. That's the point. It's a shame some only see negativity, because in its day this was educational...
Great reaction. Unfortunately the comedy of self-deprecation has turned into a stereotype of white male mocking. This show was epic as an insight into prejudicial assumptions, driven by egoistic attitudes toward self-importance. Showing these aspects are universal. Of course the women are always portrayed as the wise overseeing balancers with a kind of superhero level of understanding that which is beyond simple men. That trope has gotten worn into the ground and is now part of why Hollywood is failing.
There was a time when you could have a bit of banter with the black fella, they were more like us and their parents fit in well with the community as did their children and we stuck up for them if an outsider picked on them. It started to go to shitte around the 90's upwards. The arrivals of Muslims and Islam was when it all started to go downhill IMO, they segregated themselves from the majority white community, while the Christian black mostly, even the Muslim ones fit in or at least made the effort. Everybody was in the same boat, but we had community.
