I have to say, as a nurse working in a hospital setting, dramatic eyes are my favorite way to jazz up an otherwise mask covered face! It IS fun! and now, I have so many coworkers that are starting to do the same 😷🤘😁

I like to pick a fun color (today is red) and do an all over matte look or I top with a little shimmer! I have wore neon green, pink, orange, purple. I think it’s fun! I wear glasses too which tones it back. But I also like it with the masks.

I followed the “if colourful eyeshadow then nude lips” and vice versa trend for a while because of beauty influencers. Now I’ve decided that nude lips simply don’t do anything for my face - not unless I’m extremely tanned. So I went back to very colorful eyeshadow with brightly or darkly coloured lips. Which I guess is like an 80s trend but hey, I was young in the 80s 😅

I saw mid 2010's coming back, and am overjoyed as someone who loves intense artistic makeup. I think makeup technology improving, diversity in products, and improved techniques, Is making makeup even better!
I never really follow trends and do what I like and works for my face; I never stopped using cat's eyes, cut creases, and blazing highlighters. I'm delighted to see people revisiting old favourites!

I will say one of the hardest parts of working at Sephora is getting a client to understand what they are buying based off TikTok’s. Idk how many times I have asked someone if they want contour or bronzer because they don’t even actually know what contour is. And ethically, I don’t wanna sell something to someone just to make sales that they’re going to return because let me tell you we get soooooo many returns that just get trashed and it’s so wasteful

I feel disturbed at calling 2016 “back then”. I feel like “back then” and “throw back” should refer to the 90s or earlier. 😂

As someone with combo-oily skin who lives in a tropical country, I never got into the highlighter trend of 2016. I only started appreciating highlighters VERY recently with formulas that give a more subtle glow.
On the other hand, I have always been on the dramatic eyeshadow train. Never hopped off. Lol. I’m pretty excited for that to make a come back. That being said, I still also appreciate a thick liner from time to time, but these days I do it with bright colors especially when I want my eyes to pop and I’m not in the mood for eyeshadow. Still a dramatic eye look 😅

    • @bbykitsch
      @bbykitsch ปีที่แล้ว +2

1000% same. I now live in a drier climate with four seasons vs. year round humidity so I’m pleasantly surprised that my eyeshadow doesn’t wear away as readily and less chance of “panda/raccoon” eyes when I use non waterproof products. I’m enjoying my bold eye looks even more.

All of the older trends coming back makes me feel like I'm going through my makeup journey in reverse lol. I've followed beauty TH-cam since 2012/2013, but because I didn't have disposable income to follow trends back 5 to 10 years ago my makeup was basically today's equivalent of "clean girl aesthetic". I didn't start finally exploring my colorful full beat side until during Rona when I had disposable income from not having a social life in quarantine and needed a creative outlet, and now for the past 2 years I've been doing dramatic looks almost every day purely because I enjoy the creativity of it. It's fascinating how cyclical trends are and how much more noticeable that is when you do your own thing and are just on the outskirts as an observer lol

I started using (and pay attention to) makeup in 2020. I don't know how it was before, I just would like people to have more and more freedom to paint their face the way they want. I'd like colored eyebrows, different highlighters... I see many people being makeup collectors now, so I hope we'll be given more and more opportunities to use it to our heart's content ^^

I have a lot of wrinkles under my eyes and I'm 26. I can't use a ton of concealer or it looks horrendous! I will have to try that baking technique though. I used to hate loose powder but I really want to give it a try again.

You’ve got me realizing that all my lipsticks are at least three years old, because I’ve been wearing a mask at work since COVID started. Wearing a mask changes my foundation, blush, bronzer, highlight and mascara - everything has to last through humidity or disappear gracefully. Maybe it’s time to throw out some makeup and let myself buy it new if this mask is ever unnecessary. This blast from the past was very fun though!

I started wearing frosty lipsticks in the 60s and still love them today. Now I use frosty lipgloss rather than a bullet, but I probably won’t ever give up that look. The only difference is that I now must use a lipliner. Age does that to you. 😊
Thank goodness I always wanted to look like myself, just an enhanced version. I never aspired to resemble KKardashian….in any way…because we’ll….good luck with that!😂😂😂

My dry skin hates matte foundation comeback but I love the other trends so far. During 2016 I wasn't into makeup as much as I do now so I was kinda late to the party. I remember using liquid matte lipsticks, intense glittery highlighters and cakey af foundations. I was also doing really warm eyeshadow looks on my cool undertone skin... God it was horrible. Nowadays I love soft creamy matte lipsticks, skin-like or satin foundations and wet looking highlighters. I'm definitely not changing those. What I still do from 2016s is curling my lashes with an lash-curler, tightlining, intense mascara look. Maybe I should get into contouring as well. I'm not seeing myself bothering with eyeshadows any time soon but who knows?

And YES to more dramatic eye looks coming back- at least we can hope or just continue doing us and wear what we want.

    Hi Angie,
Awesome video idea. I actually hope 2016 trends come back! 😂
Love your opinion based videos. Would love to hear your opinions on deceptive sponsorships on tiktok done by influencers in particular. For example, someone doing a sponsored post without disclosing it’s a sponsored post. Or misrepresentation of what the product does. Like doing a sponsored post for a Mascara but using falsies. Or a foundation sponsorship but using a skin smoothing filter. There’s been a lot of that on tiktok lately. Speaking of seems like tiktokers are doing some of the shady stuff youtubers did in 2016.
Also would like your opinion on brand trips starting up again.

My face is really smooth and still looks like it did when I was younger. So I don’t have a lot of skin or makeup problems like most people have”. 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ Yeah ok sure….as she’s using an obvious filter and one inch of foundation on camera…of course her skin is going to look smooth on camera

Angelica, I know you have watched Kackie before, and recently she had an epiphany that she was putting her self in a box, so to speak, with what she did and didn't like. So she has been going out of her comfort zone and buying and trying different things with the mantra of "I don't know what I like anymore". And it's inspiring to me as a viewer to get out of my comfort zone. That is why I love your channel, you always give brands a second chance, you love to try different primer and foundation combinations (or in today's case just one layer for all the base makeup) and last but certainly not least I love how much you love to try different color combos for your eye makeup. We can tell how much you truly love it, because you get genuinely excited and even squeal. Your mood is infectious in the absolute best way possible 🥰

I still bake! I get super oily around my nose and chin so baking that area is a must. It’s not for everyone, but in moderation it looks great on me

back then i was only into k-beauty and when i started watching western beauty youtubers i really kinda hated the intensity of it all at first, but slowly and surely i started appreciating intense eyeshadow or heavy eyeliner and such and now i just combine both worlds. what i'll forever dislike (on myself) tho is a harsh lipline. it makes me look too intense so i always soften the edges the way i fell in love with it during my k-beauty times 🥺💕

I'm perfectly happy to see dramatic makeup come back. I have a theory that a lot of the success of the sculpted, perfected 2016 look was that it translated really well to small screens, and IG was where it was at. My guess about the following no-makeup-makeup trend was 1 the natural pendulum swing away from IG Baddie, 2 those were some rough years and suddenly full coverage makeup didn't look so good on our slightly older, significantly wearier skin, and 3 the market shift towards "clean" beauty favored a less precise application, and some colors weren't achievable. I'm not surprised to see the 2016 look come back if we're once again consuming most of our beauty content on little screens. I wonder if this tracks with actual phone sizes of the respective eras ...

7yrs ago I wanted to wear heavy cakey makeup, I was young, had great skin, blinding highlighter looked amazing on me. 7yrs alter im not wearing the same makeup but I understand that younger generation is now popping and it's them who generate the need and trends. they were kids when we were in pur 20. now it's time for them to take over and enjoy what we enjoyed years ago.

Ahhh the liquid lipstick with the gloss it's been coming and going from 2005, I remember I had one from mac it was impossible to take off, no oil cleansers back then, ohhh the torture! The blinding highlighter though, I 'll never stop doing, how else our alien overlords will recognise me?

I used to go in with a ton of foundation in the first application, which was soooo cakey looking. Now I go in with thin, light layers of foundation. I will put a layer on, let it dry, then go in with the next layer, and that’s pretty much it. With aging, I also target my foundation more. Now I will only put a light layer of foundation on my “problem” areas like around my mouth, and forehead wrinkles. Also, less powder, and now I’m using setting spray, which I never used 5-10 years ago. Setting spray helps with creasing, and caking so much.

If I think back to the first time I started to get into makeup and what products I used, an ellen Tracy baked eyeshadow quad is the first thing that comes to my mind. It was probably $4.99 from Tjmaxx that I asked my mom to get for me. It had a all shimmers: bronze, dark orange, dark pink, and a grey. I recently decluttered it because I never used it anymore. It kind of makes me sad to not have it anymore since it has fond memories, but I do have a video of it before decluttering it. Very bittersweet.

I like the transfer proof glossy lips from Maybelline for work - I’m a nurse and still have to wear a mask, and not smearing my lip product all over my mask without having to wear a matte liquid lip is nice.

I am also 39 and a matte on the lid is flattering. I love using a matte with glitter for that. Tati’s palette has a great cream matte with a few pink sparkles and it’s gorgeous on the lid!

Haven’t tried all the double-ended lipstick things but I love them in particular, they discontinued my favorite ones. But what works for me is applying a super thin layer(Dont go over and over the same spot layering) let it dry and then the gloss. Never have problems with sticky lips and they absolutely never budge.

In 2016 I was 16 and just starting to use foundation. I would go to school with a full face of makeup. I feel like back then brows and eyes were the only thing i cared about and i would have a matte base with the most blinding highlight. But never really stopped doing that makeup it just evolved. Foundation got dewy and makeup was more natural for a while because of work. But im back to using colorful eyeshadow and black lipstick like when i was in high school.

So back in 2015 I was about to turn 35 I believe, and I followed a Tati tutorial and y'all.... 😂 I was sobbing at the end. I was about to book a damn facelift 🤣. Omg I love that palette! I use my Juvias nomad almost daily. It's amazing and has been such a staple no matter what I'm doing. 💚💚💚💚💚💚
