Have a question,does carbo dioxide put away fire on the burning split
Yes that’s correct. If you put a burning splint into carbon dioxide it will put the fire out. This is why carbon dioxide is used in some fire extinguishers. Great question! Please hit the subscribe button if you can👍
Mr B, I'm not from your class, but I am interested in explaining some chemistry to my daughter. I do have a question about the series of tests for various gases that you've done:
1. in case I've got an unknown gas, can I perform these tests safely enough to identify if it it H2, O2, CO2 or Cl2? Are there gases that could release potentially very harmful or explosive reactions if I used i.e. the H2 or O2 test on them?
2. are there other gases that could produce a similar enough reaction and thus be mistaken? I do expect O2 and CO2 not to be mistaken, but what about the "POP" of H2 or the bleaching of Cl2, I presume there might be other pure or compound gases that could give a similar result?

Hi, thanks for question. My video is in relation to what students are expected to quote in their gcse exam as my aim is to help them. This sometimes can be simplistic.However, in some circumstances chlorine can rekindle a glowing flame. Your are also correct that we must exercise caution as chlorine is indeed a toxic gas which is why I only generated a tiny amount by electrolysis in a well ventilated lab. Also large amounts of hydrogen are explosive. My TH-cam short shows how explosive even a small plastic bottle of hydrogen is, although the loud sound does not fully come across on the video. Of course, the hindenburg disaster is testament to the flammability of hydrogen. I hope that answers your question.
Of course ozone can also be a bleaching agent but it’s not within the specification of GCSE chemistry. My channel is aimed at just GCSE students. I try to reduce it down to what pupils may be asked about on their GCSE. I certainly wouldn’t recommend performing any of my experiments at home .
@@revisechemistrywithmrb fully understood. I just wanted to show my daughter your experiments and to clear out what you are doing and why. Not planning on doing it at home (hydrogen and chlorine specifically)
My next video will be on the chromatography required practical which is a fun experiment that your daughter can try at home with some absorbent paper like kitchen roll and some felt tip pens or food colouring. 👍
Do any of these work for H2S? If not can you do one for it?
These don’t work for H2S. You would probably need an electronic sensor for that
@@revisechemistrywithmrb that’s too bad man. I had a single accident and these sensors I saw are quite expensive. I needed something to test a single time, not over a period of time.
