I looked at the Kreg 720 PRO versus the Kreg K5 Pocket Hole Jig Master System. I pushed the K5 about 2 hours ago. I just found your video and believe I made the correct decision for my needs👍👀.

Hi there! I'm getting ready to film some new videos with Kreg's new products. Kreg recently released the 720 PRO which is replacing their K5 system going forward, so you must have gotten one of the last K5 systems in the market. I'll be sharing more about the new 520 and 720 PRO pocket hole jigs in future videos. Let me know if you have any specific questions that you'd like me to address !

I had been deciding whether to get the Master System or just the K5 and of all the videos I've seen, you're the only person to go into detail about what comes with the kit. Thank you for this very comprehensive video/tutorial, you've made my decision soo much easier 😊

I've learned that using an electric drill helps with cleaner holes and faster results due to the faster rpms. Great video...looking to get mine very soon

Chelsea at Making Manzanita hello, I ordered that kit you reviewed and demonstrated with today online. I am thinking I want to start making things.
So, I am buying up a few things😊

Congratulations on being the first person to correctly use and adjust the clamp. Every "expert" guy just put the wood in and clamped it down without making the proper adjustments.

Great video, well done. Just to clarify (and this messes with my head) the sliding up portion on the jig, are you setting that for the thickness of the wood that you are drilling the hole into, or the thickness of the wood that the screw ends up in (assuming they are different thicknesses)? Also the screw length choice, is that based on the thickness of of the wood that the screw ends up in (not the piece you bore the hole into). Please help as I am getting a bit confused.

Hi there, glad you enjoyed the video! It can be kind of confusing.
The sliding up portion (also called the "drill guide" or "drill block") is set according to MATERIAL THICKNESS of the wood you are creating the pocket hole in. It's marked on the side as material thickness in case you forget!
The stop collar on the drill bit with the markings on the side (called the "Easy Set drill bit", sold separately and linked above) is set according to MATERIAL THICKNESS. The markings on the side of the bit are your material thickness.
However, if you don't have the "Easy Set drill bit" with the markings on the side - you'll have to use the stepped block that comes with the Jig to adjust your stop collar. That stepped block is based on SCREW LENGTH (and again, clearly labeled with "screw length" in case you forget).
For your question about screw length choice, you want to base that on the MATERIAL THICKNESS using the handy chart that is provided with the jig. If you are use two pieces of wood that are different thicknesses, the general rule of thumb is to go with the thinner one. However, something that is a handy tool for this is the Screw Selector Wheel that Kreg sells (amzn.to/3cDdU5v).

@@MakingManzanita fantastic. I did also got an answer directly from Kreg - which to be honest was rubbish and made no sense. Your answer is spot on and I actually understand it. Thanks again and keep up with the videos.
