"Music belongs to everyone, those who put labels on it are fools"
    -Charlie Daniels
I'm 60 now, been listening to Charlie since 73. He'll probably be the only celebrity I'll ever shed a tear over.

A few years ago my partner and I took my 3 sons to see Charlie perform as the headliner for a 'Salute our troops" Memorial Day festival. It was one of those hot, humid, swamp ass kind of Georgia weather days. He was on the stage for over 2 hours in his Wranglers, long sleeve button down shirt, and cowboy hat. Georgia heat & stage lights didn't keep him from putting on the best concert I've ever seen!
My boys were all devastated today when we heard of his passing. They are all guitarists and he truly inspired them to broaden their music tastes & influences. He was an amazing example of what an American should aim to be!

Chalie Daniels was a GREAT MAN! In the early 60s,he was working at a factory,& they had to "let some ppl go".Charlie was young & had worked there less than a year, but instead of letting him go,they were letting go a black man who'd worked there 7 or 8 yrs.He also had a wife & kids! Charlie said,"No way...He's been here way longer than me,needs it more,& my life is music anyway!" One cool cat!

Back in late 70's early 80's he and the CDB would cross the country in big Silver Eagle buses and 18 wheelers. They were all painted up with cowboy scenes and such so beautiful. He'd stop at the Union 76 truck stop in my hometown off I-40 and refuel. He'd always come off the bus with tshirts and hats and give them to anyone who wanted them. So friendly and down to earth..
Rest in Peace Mr Charlie you were a awesome person thank you for being so nice

When he says, "Sometimes I think that preacher-man ought to do a little walkin' too." , he's referring to Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Bakker. In the late 70s when there started to be whiffs of scandals about those two, and secular singers were calling out their hypocrisy.

I couldn't afford concert tickets, so I stayed outside in the parking lot to listen to a concert of his; smoked some weed, made love to a girl who had a bottle of Jack Daniels', and got robbed by that same girl while I slept in the bed of my truck. She only got forty bucks, so to be perfectly honest I wasn't even angry. She was worth way more than she got. Throwing my keys into a ditch was a bitch move, however. Nothing like stumbling around for two hours while looking for your truck keys, hungover and confused.
