Very striking the polished aluminum rail cars and chrome F3 engines. Those are the best ever on the tracks rail road trains possible. Bright and shiny beautiful. I created my own chrome F3’s with artist gun and chrome paint. It was interesting you sharing auction bidding. But even with deals you shared those prices are not in my path way of obtaining trains. Not being a collector triple digit dollar amounts are too much for what I treat as toys. Honestly, everything I’ve purchased engines included are well under $100 each. While rail cars are in the $5 to $15 range. Yes, I repair and restore engines and rail cars to save expense. Thank you for the insight.😊

Totally, agree my favorite part of the hobby is obtaining ruff F3s and 2023 alcos and doing custom paint schemes.

I appreciate your insight. I also agree with having a maximum price in mind, including auction fees. The shipping has gotten worse over time, but it is high regardless of where you buy. I have had good luck with a few items but have also been shocked with what some auction places charge for shipping and packaging fees, your choice of whether you want to go back for more of the same. I stopped buying at certain places when I feel the fees are excessive. Nice job on the video and thank you.

Interesting video thanks, I have bought off both Stout auctions and eBay, paying the premium for stout plus postage plus import duty for the UK, still wanted the item enough.
There is currently a real problem with buying from US eBay when you’re in the UK, currently the global shipping program doesn’t list the UK so virtually nobody will ship items, just makes buying more tricky.
    I do enjoy your videos

My experience is similar. For Cabin Fever (for example), you should budget about 30% more than the bid for fees and shipping.

Cool stuff, for sure. Those Texas Special cars are quite nice. I would love to have the AMT Texas Special set, as I collect AMT passenger cars, but it is hen's teeth. $650 would be a bargain, no doubt. I figure that auctions are whatever we make of them. If you put a lower bid in and it wins, great. If not, your not out anything, except for getting what you want. Basically nothing, really. Either way, you got some nice stuff there, at a good price. Keep up the great videos.

ALWAYS, check the shipping costs before bidding. Many sellers charge outrageous shipping fees to inflate their profit. I also try to bid early usually the first person bids a reasonable price, I always figure in the shipping cost when I bid my item so as not to pay more than an item is valued. And then there are those who separate a Tender from a steam loco. They are actually one item and the value of a steam loco includes the proper tender. You are right on on your advise. See you at Melbourne!

Fun fact on those Burlingtons: Lionel actually billed that set as the "Texas Zephyr" in their catalog, but for some reason not the packaging. Makes it a neat compliment to the Texas Special set. It would have been nice if they would have labeled the cars "Texas Zephyr" and the locomotives FW&D rather than CB&Q.
