Lester Ellis told me that to be world champion you must have the most hatred. He didn't like to hate but he wanted to be world champion and believed that's what it would take to get there. He also told me that "now that I have retired they expect me to make smart decisions but I got punched in the head for a living and now I just can't" (make smart decisions).

Bukaw is a national treasure. He’s the one marking Muay Thai so popular around the world for the past 15 years. As the results people around world come here to train Muay Thai, creating more gyms and jobs for Muay Thai fighters. It also creates a trend for talking Muay Thai as leisure sports in Thailand also.

Thai people tend to have long real names. That's why each Thai person use nicknames more often, when being called by friends, families, etc.... Thai nicknames can be anything; such as, Eng names (John, Joe). Or could be things or objects (ball, guitar, etc..). It could be some random Thai words those a Thai person like myself, don't even know the meaning of them (Tik, Mote, Ae, etc....).
Buakaw in the ring is calm as water, when aggressive, more like a tsunami. So famous but humble in real life. He is a legend and an honest athlete. Respect for him!
Truly a man that deserves his accolades. When you consider how hard he fought for por pramuk gym even though he wasn’t being paid or even respected. He has never once complained about bad decisions even though he was a victim of some of the most corrupt judging from K1. Even when he had to walk out of the K1 final against Enrico khal because he wasn’t allowed to fight more than 3 rounds.
In short, the guy embodies what it means to be a good sport, a gentleman and a Nak muay.

Buakaw conquered the land of martial art. He the greatest source of popularity and the spread of modern Muay Thai. He's leg kicks and punches are world know as lightning and thunder. The people's champion, respect !
He is the Mike Tyson of K1. Not just because Buakaw is powerful and relentless, but he is also-as the video states-the most exciting fighter in the history of the sport.

One of my all time favourite Thai fighters I got to meet Buakaw many years ago at a special function in Manchester, when he was being interviewed he was very humble and like an innocent young boy with his answers, that day he gained my respect even more.
Buakaw the man, the myth, the legend that represented Muay Thai to the fullest internationally. People love him cause he humble outside and beast in the ring. Spectacular fighter.

And you know what the most amazing time of Buakaw is? the answer is when he is training jogging around the countryside talking with local people, do a chore in his agriculture field, cook the food for people around him, respect that he make his own dream come true.
for me Buakaw's physique is also the most beautiful of any fighter/athlete I've ever seen, and certainly has the most graceful movement of all Muay Thai fighters

I remember back in the 2000's when i started high school watching Buakaw. I was in awe with the art and the style. He is the reason that i started to pursue Muay thai and to this day I use him as an example and wish to emulate him as much as i can. Absolute Legend.

I never realised how many lives buakaw changed ,so many of us love Muay Thai because of him .
My kickboxing teacher (a very good fighter in my country, who also cornered Mike Zambidis during some of his K-1 fights) was a big fan of Andy Souwer's style. It was the style he emphasized the most during our training. I remember going to train the day after Buakaw lost against Souwer back in 2009. I asked him about the fight. He said Buakaw performed surgery on Souwer and it was one of the biggest robberies he ever saw.
I've transitioned to Muay Thai for the past 2 years, but those days of old when I was training dutch kickboxing and watching K-1 MAX were the best!

I'm a new fan to Muay Thai and Buakaw immediately became my favorite. This video affirmed many reasons why.

I was a 3X CA state champion wrestler. I then was crushed by a 2k lbs beam. This injury destroyed my back. I thought I would never again be an athlete or even a normal human. I was crippled for ten years. Finally after years and years and years we got the insurance to pay for this cutting edge procedure. In between insanely painful procedures I would watch this fighter Buakaw. I knew very little about Muay Thai at that time. I was absolutely impressed with Buakaw. His technique. His heart. He was humble even though he was a monster. He gave me strength in a time I needed it most. He gave me something to fight for. Watching him fight I drove myself to beable to one day train Muay Thai. I knew I would never be the next Lumpinee stadium champion. But it gave me something to fight for. Fuck the haters. Buakaw brought so many people to the greatest striking sport in the world. Like this cripple kid from CA who thought Thailand was just a place to get fucked up at a full moon party and take a hot chick home only to wake up with your ass hurting and realize she has a dick...
I LOVE Saenchai, Samart, Dieselnoi, Yod. I love them all. There are so many you can make an argument for but for me. It’s Buakaw all day every day. I know many haters say he didn’t fight enough Thai fighters but I would take him over any of the fighters I named in their primes. That’s not to say I know I am right. I just saw his power and heart above all the rest.
As soon as I was able I found the best Muay Thai coach in LA and started training under Eduardo Pamplona. He is a great father, friend, coach and human. I am blessed to have gotten to train under him. I rebuilt all the muscles in my neck and back which the doctors said would never happen. BECAUSE of Buakaw.
A huge thanks goes to LK for always giving me the next master to study and who showed me things and techniques that my amateur eye never even knew were there.

as a human he is even more amazing. he was mistreated so badly by the sport , finacially he was taken advantage off and given a losses and draws in many bouts he clearly won.
The name and pronunciation of Buakaw got me. It actually means meteorite in Cebuano language. In mythology, it refers to that of a bright flying spirit in a form of a heart.
