Had ours for 10 years. Replaced my Motorcycle for a 50 mile daily round robin to Bristol. Managed Chippenham > Bristol>Birmingham>Worksop>Chippenham on a single tank. Cost naff all to run. Used to cause other motorists to spontaneously combust if you overtook them. Hilarious! Spot on Daewoo.
I had two daewoo matiz, 0.8 and 1.0. Both had super short gears, excellent acceleration, low fuel consumption. The car is light and very pleasant to drive. The only drawback of the car is the narrow wheel track, the car is not stable, the strong wind throws the car and changes the direction of travel. Toyota Aygo or even Renault Twingo are small cars, but they are wider by 12 cm, and this is significantly reflected in better stability on cyanobacteria.
it was my first car, a choice between a used something and new Matiz heavily discounted (later traded in for a new Corolla)...I loved this car despite all it's faults, (bit thrashy, no aircon but relativly lots of space) ...even went for quite long trips - actually, it was a head-turner in the day...
I`ve got two of them . One is a parts car. It floats over a wet paddock ,usually considered 4WD/tractor ground. Further, we had fitted a tiny set of snow chains on one and tested it on a section of wet powerline track . Didn`t bog it .Then the powerline company came to inspect the line and although they had all the right gear did not drive that track but walked it instead . The Matiz is a real mud duck. Not what you would expect of a small town car. Good on sand as well . So stick that in your city car park.
I like the Daewoo Matiz, it's got just enough space for four adults, reasonable if not generous room for some shopping / luggage, and in 5 door form is easy to enter and exit with good economy.
My mum had a facelift Green SE+ years ago not a great car but certain things about it I liked and it was spacious for its size but I wish it had a bigger engine as it had the 800cc unit I am sure the later 1.0 litre units were better.
I remember this car, our neighbor wine it in the supermarket lottery it the color was between gold abs yellow , I still remember most of the teenagers went to the supermarket just to take a picture with our neighbor so we can appear in the newspaper. I miss those days

This video must be 20 years old. The makeup skills of the reporter are from the mid 90s. Less foundation no eye shadows or nose highlights. As for the car it does not look dated.
My grandpa bought a brand new 2004 Matiz 0.8 S, the most basic variant with no power steering/windows/mirrors/locking, no airbags and no A/C. It was absolutely awful in literally every way. With 800 cc and 51 horsepower, it gets about 30 mpg urban which is piss poor. It has absolutely no torque whatsoever, 69 Nm/4600 rpm is nothing short of pathetic. The engine responds 5 seconds after you pressed the throttle pedal; the engine is also very loud and unrefined and the cabin has nearly no sound insulation so you're exposed to the horrible 3 cylinder noise all the time, as well as an awful lot of tire and wind noise. The car had no rev counter, but according to Automobile Catalog, the engine runs at 4450 rpm at 120 km/h in fifth gear, yet it takes over 27 seconds to accelerate from 80 to 120 km/h in fifth gear. I know that the car isn't made for motorway driving, but this thing is useless at just about everything. The gearbox is atrocious, the steering is too heavy even with the 155/65 R13 tires, the car is very uncomfortable inside because it's just too narrow for the average european human being, the car body is made out of cardboard etc... The car was totaled 3 years ago in an accident, and my grandparents were heavily injured (and I'm not sure if airbags would have helped if the car had them). This car is a lot better with the 1.0 4-cylinder engine though, with 64 hp and 87 Nm it's much better for driving around town, and since the 1.0 was offered only with the SE trim, all 1.0 models have power steering and airbags so they are easier to drive and slightly safer as well, and the 1.0 also sounds better and probably isn't any less economical than the crappy 0.8 unit.
I got this rescently. Pretty good. Because it's very cheap and manual. As you know, expensive manual one is useless. Because you cant sell it on right price kkk Dont blame this car. It's only just really big and cheap-compare to its price-toys.
Such a terrible car that your grandpa kept it for 11 years and didn't maintain it properly by sounds of it... Hmm lemme guess the accident was his fault too?
50 miles an hour going reverse and with a half lock? How often do you do this, it's utterly insane. You'll roll anything if you do stupid things like that.

totally agree
I have a Matiz 2007 0.8 using for second car. Now it has 230.000km on the clock on lpg . And its going strong.

it actually does now
I own one
As timelessly cute as it is, it *DOES* look a bit dated now, not gonna lie. 😐

How about color coding the hoses and tubes depending on the material that pass through them.
My mate had one, and 4 of us went to Cornwall in it, with a roof box on and loads if luggage. Was very cramped, could barely move 😅
