I found the ending to be ambiguous to a certain extent, somewhat confusing. I had to rewatch the third act to see what I've missed, but again, still uncertain as to what is Liam's position in the end of the movie. So, here's what I understood so far. Liam finds "Satan" (Jack Black) at the Red Rum Motor Lodge to make his third and final wish. By doing so, he would automatically sell his soul to the devil. Pretty Faustian, right? Liam's wish: "I wish for my parents to be together again and be happy." Now, fast forward into the fiery pit of hell where Ben Stiller (The actual Satan) which Jack Black's "Satan" impersonated, could not accept Liam's soul because it's pure due to his selfless wishes, which automatically cancels the deal between Jack Black's Satan with Liam or "null and void." Which means not legally valid. But one other term that Ben Still Satan said is, "You got his soul under false pretenses." Jack Black,"Satan" response "But that's our ammo. Since when do we not operate under false pretenses?" This false pretense has to do with Jack Black, now revealed as a low-level apprentice demi-demon, pretended to be Ben Stiller Satan. Overall, Jack Black Satan is a liar. This is important. Now, fast forward to Liam's room and the demi-demon, banished from hell because of Liam's wishes. Remember. Jack Black, as the demi-demon, is a liar, and he could be lying to Liam in this scene about his soul and the third wish being null and void. Also, at the same time, Jack Black demi-demon is starting a new chapter in his life. As the audience, we are unaware of what life path Jack Black demi-demon is on now. Getting back to the wish. Jack Black informs Liam that he had another wish coming, and Jack Black took the liberty in writing it in Liam's letter. Now, we know in the end Liam gets his brother back, but what else was in the contents of that letter. Could it be... wait a minute... it's all coming back to me now... oh yes! "With this third and final wish, Satan. You now have my soul." But under false pretenses. Remember, Liam's letter to "Santa" or Santa letters in general not only addresses Santa but also has the child's name on that letter. Liams name was on that letter he wrote to "Santa." And when Liam got his brother back and heard from Gibby that Emma was going to give Liam a second chance because she heard from Gibby that Liam's brother died, Liam comes to the realization that he is still in contract with the devil... but under false pretenses. In other words, Liam gets his brother, eventually a simple exchange for his soul but Liam is left with a choice. Let die the brother he loves or suffer his potential girlfriend? Now rewind back to the firey pit of hell. Jack Black said to Ben Stiller Satan that Liam wished to be with Emma, which was a shallow and greedy wish. Which one of the deadly sins is Lust. So, the devil already has a hold on Liam for that from his first wish. So, in the end of the movie, Liam is still on contract, but is left with a choice between his Brother or Emma. Would Liam be shallow and greedy or selfless and generous?
Wow 😳 I think you put more thought into the final act of this film than the movie makers did. Lol I think it all comes down to bad writing. Thank you for the feedback it's very thought out.
@TheFilmGeek Also, the final act could be a reference from another Christmas classic. It's A Wonderful Life but with a twist. Is Liam in a dream or in reality? This is where I would have to dabble into the occult to find the missing link that justifies this ending
There is not really anything too hard to realize here. The only bad writing would be not changing history and still bringing his brother back like nothing happened. Why does his friend not know his brother is alive again but the parents dont question it? As far as Jack Black and his demon days over and all that. You can see in the movie the demon starting to slowly enjoy more and more seeing the other people smile and laugh. He genuinely changed. I think he will be the new "Santa" Moving forward. Obv there wont be a second movie. But this movie wasn't bad.
I'm with you those parents bored me to tears. I don't blame the actors the characters were just unlikeable. Could have been a fun little comedy but it doesn't stick the landing.
@@TheFilmGeek : Well, Happy Thanksgiving to the both of you two. It's definitely been wonderful getting acquainted with you both. Keep them good reviews rollin'. And lay off the brussel sprouts. In the words of Mr. Garrison, you'll get the "Green Apple Splatters"! hehe. Happy Holidays.
@SheejaSlade Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. 😊 As long as I'm having fun I'll continue making my videos. I'm really happy to hear you enjoy my work thank you.
To be honest, I have zero interest because anything I've seen shows Jack Black being...well, Jack Black and I get bored with actors with no range. BUT, I was curious to at least hear what YOU had to say because I DO like checking out YOUR work. 🙂
Thank you 😊. Jack was pretty good in this film but it was a late 90's throwback comedy sooo... The third act completely ruined this movie and for absolutely no reason. I think the Farley Bros work better as a directing team rather than writter director team.
Jack has given up flexing his acting muscles a long time ago. He has been the same character now for more than 10 years and it's truly annoying. Everything he does is exactly the same. He always screams and that's funny for a little bit. I have zero excitement for a Jack Black movie. His last great movie was Nacho Libre (hope I spelled it correctly.... oh well). He needs to change up a bit
Having an identity crisis here. You look like you have good and similar taste to mine with your film choices and cool toys around you, but this "movie" is one of the cringiest pieces of trash ever released. There were no good parts of this junk. The Farrelly bros have lost the plot, comedy-wise anyway. Prolly Jack Black too. Unbelievable. None of these people should remain actors either. Harsh, I know.
I totally get it. I honestly would have been pissed if I would have paid to see this in theaters but as a streaming film I chucked a few times. Ever since the Farrelly Bros stopped directing together the movies just haven't been all that great.
I thought it was a fun Christmas movie thats it nothing to get in deep about not as bad as people are claiming come on what about terrifier 3 and people are letting there children watch that trash

I liked the first half a lot but mean that last act was a hard watch
Totally agree 💯👍
This movie is not for children by any means..... but this will be a cult classic for years
Yeah I think it could be a cult classic some day.
I completely agree....the third act....not sure what happened there 😬😂😂😂 Also... whenever the parents were on screen, I completely lost interest.
I'm with you those parents bored me to tears. I don't blame the actors the characters were just unlikeable. Could have been a fun little comedy but it doesn't stick the landing.
I hated the film, but I absolutely love your cat. Meow-Meow.
He's a good boy 😁

Are you a fan of the Tim Allen Santa Claus movies and was this film similar to them?
Yes. I do like those movies but I haven't watched the Disney+ series.
Cool
i like this movie, its fun and got hidden message in it and Ben Stiller is good when i seen him i say thats the guy, 4/5 stars
Yeah I enjoyed it 😊

Did you like him in School of Rock?
I'm not going to disagree with you lol.

I thought it started great and ended badly. I've seen way worse films this year. I do think this film is getting way too much hate.
