    Sure man. I'll do a video next week. Just got back from Dorset rigging sole tramells there. The knot, if you want to practise it is a Clove Hitch backed up with a half hitch. Good luck. Freddie

    HI Jason I get my nets from Cosalt in Newlyn; Cornwall. They, in turn, get it imported from either Malaysia or Portugal depending on the type of net. Cheers fro the comment. Freddie

    Hi John I think I know what you mean. The floatline, called Hauline by the Danes, does stretch a lot. So the way we deal with this is to "off-set" the lead line by an inch for each staple or tie, if you prefer. The way I do it with Tramell nets, 10.5 inch inner walls, is pick up 5 meshes into 20 inches on the Hauliine and opposite you pick up 5 meshes into 21 inches. At the end of your run, pull the net back and you MUST level up the last staples you set to the first mark on your rope. OK?

    @GILLNETTING1 Aye Jason I forgot to say about the floatation. Normally we use a 4oz float a fathom apart. Any bigger just open them a bit or smaller then close up one. Good luck with it.

    the gear alone cost so much money..and he has millions of dollars worth of gear

  • @wexfordrebel
    @wexfordrebel  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @johnsmith27959 I hope this helps you out. When you come to haul this gear, the weight should all be on the Hauline then too which allows you to use a lighter lead rope if you like (cheaper). Freddie

    hi freddie, hows the fishing been down your way. we have had a poor season, been out a few times with the new nets i rigged up, they are catching fish any way very good bass up to 5lb.

      Hi Jason sorry for the delay in replying. I rarely look on youtube now. Fishing is slack enough here this tide but we're mainly concerned with prices. Holding up so far but lets see. Nice size Bass that. I rigged 8x 4.25" nets for a chap recently but have had no feedback from him yet.

    Nice bit of rigging, its good to see that theres still hand rigged nets out there. Have You used the Loomis Needles Freddie ? as I find them to be of a higher quality than the Form Finder type.. Keep up the good work.
    Bill..

    I notice your top line and lead line are both pulled tight. Guys in my area tell me to hang the lead line loser than the top line. Do you hang all yours evenly by pulling the top line and lead line tight? Im hanging 3.25"mesh and 5.5"mesh. Have you ever found it beneficial to hang more top line than bottom line?

    HI Jason yea SE Nets are ok. The skipper there is called Dave he's a good lad.. There's a couple of ways to rig the gear you're using. You could rig them half slack, which would be pick up 6 meshes into 14.25 inches ( or the length of 3 meshes). But if you want to open them up a bit, rig 5 meshes into the same distance. It'll give you more length and you'll catch less corruption. Why not try a couple rigged each way to see which performs the best. Let's know how you get on. Freddie

    @johnsmith27959 Yes or maybe 108 yds to 100 on the head.This is ok for big mesh gear like 8" up to 12". However I would shorten the foot line more for smaller mesh as in 5" gill nets. In that case I'd try a half inch extra per staple on the foot. Hope this helps you out. Let me know how you get on.

    hi freddie, thanks for that. i got in touch with them an they didnt have the meshes i wanted.and they recomended me 2 a company south east netting which are really good with there prices.. which is the best way 2 rigg a 4.3/4ich 4ply x 30 mesh deep, please if you could help.

  • @johnsmith27959
    @johnsmith27959 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @wexfordrebel So, essentially you need to use more lead line than top line per net? To make sure it hangs straight when fishing would it work to use 110yds of bottomline measured slack to every 100yds of topline measured slack?

  • @GILLNETTING1

    hey great vid.... where do you get ur meshes?? Jason

    Any advice on hanging a net with "floatline" as your topline? It's a new regulation for us and I'm struggling to figure out how the stretchable floatline ties even to the non-strecthable bottomline.

  • @wexfordrebel
    @wexfordrebel  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @johnsmith27959 Hi sorry for the late reply. been too busy for pc. I know some guys in this area do hang the footline a little slacker to put all the weight on the headling; this allows them to use a lighter leadline, thus cheaper. However I dont use this method for gill nets. For tangle nets or monk nets, I use a similar idea only I lengthen the footline by 1" per staple. If you're interested in this let me know and I'll talk you through ti as it's quite complex; best fishes. Freddie
