She's never been pitch corrected and that's why her singing and voice hit home... is human. It's okay to use pitch correction, but when you go too far you've lost anything natural. few instruments including a person's voice are correct on pitch outside electronics... if it's got strings, a reed or even a pipe it's not perfect pitch.
Linda Ronstadt inadvertently had a massive impact on music history. In 1971, she found herself in need of two people for her back-up band. So, she temporarily hired Don Henley and Glenn Frey. While they already knew each other, it was while playing for Ronstadt that they discovered how well they worked together. And thus, the Eagles were born.
Undoubtedly one of the best singers ever. So many hits arranged and performed to perfection. So proud to claim her as one of the greatest of our generation. ❤🎉
One of the best singers for sure. But what I think she is absolutely the best at is emoting, portraying and pouring forth emotion through her music. With every song you FEEL the emotion.
She's definitely on the short list of all time best. I put Sissel, from Norway, Morgan James, from the US and Nana Mouskouri, from Greece on the same short list. Up and coming are Diana Ankudinova, from Russia and Angelina Jordan, from Norway. KZ Tandingan, from the Philippines, is quite a performer in the sense of Las Vegas. She might be up and coming.
BTW, a "dojo" is martial arts studio. What were meaning to say was "dobro" which is a type of guitar usually played with a slide guitar style. But in this song it's a pedal steel guitar.
There has never been an artist with so much success across so many genres as Linda R.. from rock, country, Broadway, American standards, R&B to (to this day) the top selling non English album in US history with her multi platform Spanish language album giving salute to her Latina heritage
Linda was my first album cover crush, then hearing her voice just made me fall in love with her even more. With all due respect to Roy (thanks for writing it), Linda has made this song all hers. One of my fondest memories is when my sister was a toddler, she stood on my grandfather's shoes and danced with him to this song.
Linda Ronstadt was one of the best singers of all time. It was so sad to hear she lost her voice, but, I am glad we can still enjoy the many recordings she made.
Linda has said she has never gone back and listened to her work because all she heard was things she should have done better. I don’t think we could handle them if they were any better. ❤❤❤
Baseball announcers will sometimes refer to a called third strike(when the batter doesn't swing at the pitch) as a "Linda Ronstadt" because it "blew by you"! LOL Great reaction Beth, thanks.
I was raised by country music loving parents, and wasn't able to sneak in some rock until I visited my friend from kindergarten, and his sister had the record player on. When I entered, I though I was hearing some sort of magic, but it was The Eagles, Hotel California. I saved my allowance ($0.50/week)and bought a little transistor radio a month later. The first song I heard on that radio, and the first rock and roll that I picked on my own, was this song. I have loved this since it came out in 1977.
Thank you so much for these Linda videos! I've started my own LR tribute band in Canada, and breaking down the mechanics of exactly what her voice is doing is so helpful.
I remember being a little boy in Mexico and my older female cousin was so in love with this song and she would sing it to me. To this day I get emotional hearing it.
The really wonderful thing about very talented singers like Ms Ronstadt is that even when well trained (and she definitely is well trained) most of what you hear is the singer inhabiting the song aside from or even in spite of their training. These singers are few and far between, less than a dozen in my lifetime, we should treasure them when we come across them. Thank you Linda.
"A World Without Love" is a song recorded by the British duo Peter and Gordon and released as their first single in February 1964. It was included on the duo's debut album in the UK, and in the US on an album of the same name. The song was written by Paul McCartney and attributed to Lennon-McCartney.
I have no idea what song I would want to hear, but I would have loved to hear a duet with Linda Ronstadt and Floor Jansen. Two of the most versatile beautiful voices!
Many have mentioned Linda's tie to The Eagles, but she also has another interesting association. When she was a young singer starting out with The Stone Poneys, her first hit was a song called Different Drum. That song was written by Michael Nesmith who was one of the members of The Monkees, who started as a US TV show parody of The Beatles.
Hi Beth, another great reaction. I appreciate the effort you put into these videos. The use of a steel guitar in Ronstadt's music is not unusual. She's 'flirted' with country music her whole career. She did a fine version of "Silver Threads and Golden Needles", earlier in her career, along with many other country songs. I'm reminded that country rock legends, the Eagles, were her backing band, once upon a time. Also, and I'm sure you're aware, but just for the cheap seats, Peter Asher is the brother of Jane Asher, who was Paul McCartney's girlfriend when Beatlemania first broke. Sir Paul didn't think "A World Without Love" was good enough for the Beatles, so he gave it to Peter and Gordon. By the way, Peter Asher has appeared on stage earlier this year to perform with Lyle Lovett!
Effortlessl, efficient and so delicately delivered. Linda was a master of her craft. Loved this reaction Beth. Just catching up on your historical yummy efforts. Well done.
I grew up in the "Bayou City", i.e., Houston, Texas. East Texas & Louisiana are bayou country. Every time that I hear Linda Ronstadt sing "Blue Bayou" it brings me back home!
I was a long haul trucker when this was played on country radio stations coast to coast - it instantly makes one homesick for someplace you've never been.
That Peter & Gordon song was written by Paul McCartney, when he was dating Peter's sister Jane Asher, and crashing at their parents' London home. Peter has been performing and producing since the early Beatles' days, and knows everyone in the business. Saw him last year at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, AZ, and he has some great stories to tell, including the story of World Without Love.
I was 15 in 1978, and guess who I thought of quite a lot in my quiet moments? Yes, I was in love with her - from afar, obviously. I also saw her in concert at the Subiaco Oval in Perth Western Australia (my home) in 1978. Fantastic time.
This was an absolutely stunning review, and of my favorite female vocalist of all time. You seem to understand all the intricacies of singing, and your breakdown is just marvelous! Your effervescence response to her singing was just awesome! I will now seek more reviews of Linda by you.
The greatest singer of the 20th century and the first real Female superstar. Her voice will live on, just so sad we were robbed of so many years of her singing.
I should have known. It’s his writing cadence, and really she does on it what he does, just soar to the top range out of nowhere and then just coo like the most graceful bird.
Great reaction, Beth! I first heard Linda's voice when she sang Different Drum with the Stone Ponies. I've been a fan ever since. She could sing anything!
What a great reaction, breakdown and analysis to a great performance of what was already a great song, but Linda made it even better! BTW, a “dojo” is a martial arts studio. I think you mean a dobro. And as you guessed and later saw for yourself, it’s actually a pedal steel guitar on this. However, dobro is a very cool instrument. Rob Ickes is maybe the greatest virtuoso on this instrument. He plays jazz, classical as well as rock, blues and country on it. He is also a pretty good singer.
I keep hoping someone would react to the version of this Linda did on _The Muppet Show._ Linda in a swamp, the Electric Mayhem as her backing band, and a chorus of ribbiting frogs.
The restaurant where I worked back in '78 had this on the juke box. The only songs that played all summer long back-to-back were: Black Water (Doobie Brothers), Suite: Judy Blue Eyes (CS&N----Y might have been with them on that recording), and Linda Ronstadt's Blue Bayou (there was one other---I wish I could remember what it was). I probably heard it a few hundred times at work that summer. Loved all of them.
She pass so easily from a low tone to a very High one. She was a great latin english singer. From a Beautiful time that sadly can not come back any more.
I'm so glad that you waited for her to get thru the first section of the song before stopping. I was staring at your mouse hand thinking "DON'T DO IT!" and you didn't. Instead you moved both hands together and just allowed yourself to be moved by the magic! Easily my favorite LR song.
Hola, im Mexican, and you have no idea what important Linda ronstadt for us, 😢 for me, she’s my favorite and greatest female singer in the world, you’re fabulous. Your video makes me cry
I worked with a woman who was a classmate at Arizona with Linda. The were both WELL trained by somebody there. I still can't get enough of Linda's recordings.
That slide guitar is specifically called a Pedal Steel. You can tell by the bends. Without the pedals, you’d only have slides. It’s an insane instrument to master.
I saw Linda in 1969? live in concert and later found out that several of the musicians in her backup band eventually became The Eagles! BTW "A World Without Love" was written by Paul McCartney.
Not only could Linda Ronstadt handle Mariachi (which she grew up singing) and opera, she also recorded with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra in the 1980s. Search for "What's New". Absolutely beautiful, haunting vocals. In her prime, she could sing anything.

Back then many of her backup band members were the foundation of the Eagles pre Joe Walsh
No auto tune or pitch correction, just pure talent!!
She just has pure talent. She probably didn't have to practice much.
I wish producers would understand that autotune takes the human out of the music.

Apparently it takes a LEGEND to make ANOTHER legend. Pretty cool stuff
Don't forget Jackson Browne. He was in the mix also.
And J.D. Souther too. He wrote with both Linda and the Eagles. And he dated Linda for a time.
RIP JD Souther
A (pre-)Monkee, Michael Nesmith, wrote Linda's first hit, Different Drum.
Emmylou Harris said that when Linda lost her voice, we all lost her voice.
I know what she means but thankfully I still have my albums
Undoubtedly one of the best singers ever. So many hits arranged and performed to perfection. So proud to claim her as one of the greatest of our generation. ❤🎉
One of the best singers for sure. But what I think she is absolutely the best at is emoting, portraying and pouring forth emotion through her music. With every song you FEEL the emotion.
Arguably the greatest female singer of all time!!! Every vocal coach should expose their students to this perfect voice😊
No argument from me..
She’s definitely on a list of wonderful singers
This particular performance is one of the top ten live singing performances I've ever seen.
she was pitch perfect when she opened her mouth. "one-take Linda", she was called in the studio.
BTW, a "dojo" is martial arts studio. What were meaning to say was "dobro" which is a type of guitar usually played with a slide guitar style. But in this song it's a pedal steel guitar.
Ya beat me to it... 🤙😎
Linda’s voice is transcendent, hearing it just elevates and soothes immediately. She’s incredible.
There has never been an artist with so much success across so many genres as Linda R.. from rock, country, Broadway, American standards, R&B to (to this day) the top selling non English album in US history with her multi platform Spanish language album giving salute to her Latina heritage

She has such control over her belty voice. Powerful and beautiful vocal.
This song has stuck with me for close to 50 years. Her vocals are beautiful.
That last note showed a hint of her mezzo-soprano chopps. This woman is brilliant 👏 😊
Her role in The Pirates of Penzance really showed that as well. Great stuff.
I’ve always loved this woman’s voice she’s amazing
the term, "in a class of their own" is thrown around a lot.
THIS is what it means.
there is the best singers in the world. and there's Linda.
Nice reaction, I think she is one of the GOAT female singer, makes my top 5 easy. I saw her twice in the 70's, she always sang her heart out.
That last "Blue Bayou" gives me goosebumps every time.
Such a fantastic instrument she had - fragile yet strong, glassy and then pillowy in the next breath.
And then full roar
My favorite female singer ever. She could literally sing any genre of music. She basically ruled the 70s.
Baseball announcers will sometimes refer to a called third strike(when the batter doesn't swing at the pitch) as a "Linda Ronstadt" because it "blew by you"! LOL Great reaction Beth, thanks.
The pride of Tucson, Arizona! ¡Viva, Linda!
The last bit was all in one breath too. Crazy talented.😍
Sometimes people forget she was one of the biggest acts of the 1970's, packing arenas across the country like very few bands or solo artist can.
I was raised by country music loving parents, and wasn't able to sneak in some rock until I visited my friend from kindergarten, and his sister had the record player on. I love Linda singing Desperado by The Eagles. Her voice gives me chills. ❤
Thank you so much for these Linda videos! I've started my own LR tribute band in Canada, and breaking down the mechanics of exactly what her voice is doing is so helpful.
Linda is magic with that mic.... she can sing absolutely anything ! ❤
Linda is my favorite female singer, I’ve seen her in concert three times, I love all her music

I was 7 years old when this song was released and it has always been one of my favorites.
I had to look it up - no clue when it came out as it was always my most favorite song. (I was 7)
Loved Linda's performance singing Mariachi her voice is stunning.
One of the greatest vocal cracks in rock history: Merry Clayton singing the chorus of the Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter.
Linda had a very controlled voice. She knew exactly when to hit her notes. So flawless and smooth
you gotta see her Pirates of Penzance performance, she really could do it all
So glad I got to see her do this live in 1977
A song has to be exceptional when two different singers can perform differently but also perfectly.
Yep, Roy did a helluva job with this.
Best singer I have ever heard !
Saw her in Nov. of 1976 ... brilliant !
I have no idea what song I would want to hear, but I would have loved to hear a duet with Linda Ronstadt and Floor Jansen. Two of the most versatile beautiful voices!
Have you listened to Linda, Emmy Lou and Dolly together in their Trio album? 😊
Credit must be given to Orbison's brilliant composition that laid the groundwork, the template for Ronstadt to use her incredible voice, her talent.
THANKS FOR HONORING HER ,Linda RONSTADT ON YOUR CHANNEL! MAY YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE FOR IT! DOUBLE SUBSCRIBERS!

She is the best female artist in the last century! And may I say; the crush of many a young man that came of age in the 70’s! 😎❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I saw Linda in concert twice and once on Broadway. I was one of many pitiful mopes smitten by her! Bought all of her music!

Ever since I was little,I've always loved the sound of her voice!💘💘💘

I grew up in the "Bayou City", i.e., Houston, Texas. East Texas & Louisiana are bayou country. Every time that I hear Linda Ronstadt sing "Blue Bayou" it brings me back home!
The greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation.
Way back machine activated !!!
🎶🎵 Thanks, once again, for the memories !!! 🎶🎵
I was a long haul trucker when this was played on country radio stations coast to coast - it instantly makes one homesick for someplace you've never been.
Thanks so much for telling us who Peter Asher is. I LOVED Peter and Gordon back in the day!
I also LOVE Linda and YOU!

"Art is how we decorate space. Music is how we decorate time." Jean Michel Basquiat
I'd almost forgotten that quote. Appreciate the reminder.
Your reaction just mirrors mine basically the whole way - I'd forgotten that amazing lick going up to the falsetto note, just glorious! 🤩🥰🙌
You want to hear just Linda and a piano? Then check out her live version of “Desperado.”
10:38 Beth's face when Linda sings that last note... Such a great reaction.
Beth’s face

I saw Linda MANY times live and anytime she started singing this song I knew I'd better brace myself for that ending. Always gorgeous.
As an Arizonian she was my heartthrob
The greatest singer of the 20th century and the first real Female superstar. Her voice will live on, just so sad we were robbed of so many years of her singing.
Aretha would like a word, and Karen Carpenter’s waiting outside the office lol.
Such an amazing voice, still gives me goosebumps every time.
she took Roy Orbison's song and made it her own! simply beautiful
Just like Janus Joplin did with several songs including "Summertime", and "Me and Bobby McGee" among others.
@@johndavidwolf4239 numerous artists did the same with all genres of music, Patsy Cline made "Crazy" a classic that Willie Nelson wrote
I've been waiting for you to do this one for a while. The incomparable Linda Ronstadt....❤
Wonderful review💖 the "Eagles" Don Henley had called her "The Best 🎵Singer🎵"💖🌞
What a great reaction, breakdown and analysis to a great performance of what was already a great song, but Linda made it even better!

Very interesting analysis. Thank you. : )
I've found Linda Ronstadt to be so perfect, I'm always mesmerized.
This is so awesome ♥

Amazing your first hearing! Thanks for the reaction, she is amazing!
Stunning voice.
She pass so easily from a low tone to a very High one. She was a great latin english singer. From a Beautiful time that sadly can not come back any more.
i love linda. i also love seeing you and others loving her also.
I love this song so much! I am also particularly enamored of her recording of "Perfidia".
I'm so glad that you waited for her to get thru the first section of the song before stopping. I was staring at your mouse hand thinking "DON'T DO IT!" and you didn't. Instead you moved both hands together and just allowed yourself to be moved by the magic! Easily my favorite LR song.
Her rendition of this with the muppets is one of my greatest childhood memories.
Awesome live performance, thanks Beth, love this beautiful song. ❤😊🎉

My sister had the 45 of this back when it came out. I was 5 in 77
Linda is a goddess!
Great video. Of course you chose a great song. But you helped me realize why i love it so much!❤😊
I saw Linda in 1969? live in concert and later found out that several of the musicians in her backup band eventually became The Eagles! BTW "A World Without Love" was written by Paul McCartney.
Linda made every song she did her own.
OMG that voice. It's so unfair, beauty plus talent. Thank the good Lord for allowing her out of heaven.
I don't know if Linda is the best to ever sing a pop song, but she has to be in the top three. 😊
Thank you so much for this!
Not only could Linda Ronstadt handle Mariachi (which she grew up singing) and opera, she also recorded with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra in the 1980s. Search for "What's New". Absolutely beautiful, haunting vocals. In her prime, she could sing anything.
Music doesnt get any better than Linda singing this song......(and thanks Roy)
AND Thanks to Beth for her heartfelt passion relating to this great song
My dad's favorite singer, R.I.P. DAD ❤ 1925-2023
I just listened to her singing "Lago Azul", and it sounds like the same backup band and she also yodels the last word.
