UPDATE: Please see the community post of Sheglam's reply and our findings. In a nutshell, they didn't answer the question. But in looking at their website, they quietly updated the Golden Snitch to no longer have the vegan label but mentioned nothing of the sort to me. So, ultimately, they lied to their customers and took no accountability. I have no intention of ever buying from Sheglam again.
"Not intended for use in the eye area" this is to be compliant with the US FDA - other countries including the EU consider these shades eye safe but the FDA is behind the ball on it (as they are in a lot of things). In real terms, it just means the shade can cause some mild staining on the skin. It's not permanent, it comes off, and is a very common disclaimer statement for eyeshadow palettes across the industry. You see this most often on shades with red, purple, or darker pink pigments.
Thank you so much for this info!!! I was recording a vlog today, read your comment and then read a bit more up on it and tried out those two shades. I appreciate ya! 😊
Squirrelfriend!!! I always love when I have data and I wake up to an upload from you and Matt 🥰🥰🥰 thank you so much by the by for helping me and all of us get through 2024. You're like a warm hug and a smile.
I second another's comment that the pink blush looked so good on you on camera. It really softened your look and made your darker makeup on the lips and eyes stand out. Obviously it would look different in person in a cooler daylight source. I have the same ultra warm undertones and would loathe the pink in person, too, but it looked phenomenal on you. ❤️ Thanks for an honest review, as always. You're the best!
Thank you, Tawnya! That blush was a step outside of my comfort zone. But reading the love on it made me give it another go today! Awww, thank you!!! I know no other way but to be honest. hehe 😂
I have the video frozen at 33:39 while I type this, and just WOW! The colors on your eyes, cheeks, and lips are just *chef's kiss* I know makeup sometimes looks quite different on camera, so I hope you notice how gorgeous you look on camera!
This is my first time watching your video and i love the makeup at the end ❤ i thought about buying the set now you really encourage me to buy it thanks! 😊
Aubrey!!!! So pretty! When you were swatching them I thought they were kind of meh. But, your reveal was gorgeous! I know you don't love the pink blush in person, but I think the camera LOVES it on you! That softer blush makes your skin sparkle and your eyes POP! Gorgeous color on your eyes, too! WOW! I was so surprised because the products themselves weren't wowing me so I wasn't expecting such a gorgeous reveal! I love your ideas for reusing the very nice packaging. Kind of reminds me of an advent calendar where it feels like most of the creativity and money went into the packaging over the products themselves.
Shivani, thank you sooooo much!!! I thought it looked awful on me but I read your comment before filming a vlog I recorded today and realized sometimes we can be a bit too harsh on yourself, so I put that blush on to give it another go. 😊🩷 And I think that's why I really wanted to include a try-on, because what you see in a swatch an how it's applied can be a game changer one direction or the other, ya know?
Loving the edits 😂 I ordered the Monster book set. And something else I forgot 😅 I was going to wait until I received my items before watching your video but I couldn't wait lol Thank you for showing us the items and how important it is to read and review merch. ✨
Omg, I would love to see a video of you making homemade beauty products; make up especially! I am making my own organic products and trying to sell them and to get some pointers on what products are best and the process would be fantastic!! Thank you Aubrey for another awesome video 🪄🧙🦅
OOoooo I'll have to do one at some point!! Organic is some of what I made. I'd LOVE to see what you make. I will say, I was just playing around, nothing professional. So I don't know if I'll have many pointers but could definitely share! Thanks, Tammy!!!
@ I think it would be a fun video to make and to watch!! I have been playing around with pillow sprays and they have been popular for me, I also make body butter and lip balm as of now but plan to add products as I grow. I love essential oils, the smell is euphoric! 🪷
Oooooooo why did I not think of that!!! OMG I'll try that! I mean, I legit use my lip/cheek tint on both. Totally going to do that! Thanks, Elizabeth! Also sorry for all the exclamation marks!!! 🤣
@ by the way, was thinking you might be a light neutral with an olive undertone as your complexion. But it can be difficult to judge on a screen if it is olive or yellow undertones :)
The final reveal with it on your face was soo pretty even though your gorgeous to begin with. The swatches didnt do the make up justice. Nice natural look on. Much ❤😊😊😊
Ooohhh! You could make your own replica for the snitch given to Harry by Dumbledore!! Cover the sheglam name with 'I open at the close' and put a replica of the resurrection stone inside! 😊
A lot of palettes, including luxury, list some shades as not intended to the eye area to comply with FDA. They're perfectly fine for the eye area, but FDA does not seem to have the same belief.
Sheglam is owned by SHEIN which a lot of people have problems with. I’m not sure insects in the makeup is the real concern with all the other issues. Having said that, I did get their first box and even reordered the lipgloss because it is very good. The make up is FDA approved (for what that’s worth lol) and I didn’t have any issues with any of it. I used up the first edition! A lot of eye shadows actually mention to not use on eye and that means don’t line the waterline that touches they eye (I’m assuming because there is glitter) that doesn’t mean you can’t put it on your eye lid. Personally I think the more subtle pink looks great on you. The entire look was great!
Thank you! I still think it a bit too pinky but it's made me open to more of a pink color. 😊 On Shein. I didn't realize Sheglam was owned by Shein until it was delivered in a Shein bag. That being said, I quite agree with my husband that who a company is owned by isn't indicative of their practices. They can still run things their way. And from what I know, I don't love how they are running things in their labeling because things being vegan does matter a great deal to me. ❤️
Alot of the red tones are not F.D.A approved? The can cause irritating and staining but there's quite a few palettes in the makeup industry that state not for the eyes....but people use them with caution 😅
Nobody can say I’m not a loyal friend and viewer as I don’t wear a stitch of makeup 😝. But I was you so I watched and was entertained by the jokes lol.
The packaging is amazing and I would love the monster book of monsters as the shades are very wearable. As others have stated, it says not for the eyes on some vegan lines as they may stain the eyelid or cause irritation for sensitive skin. You can avoid these issues by wearing an eye primer and they are not then directly on the skin. I’m not impressed by most of the items, they don’t seem as wearable as the first release. I do prefer this packaging and would maybe buy it for that purpose (to reuse them) but I wouldn’t wear most of them. The lip shades are not for me and I would struggle to apply them, I don’t wear highlighters and the blush is too pinky. I like sparkly eyeliners but I’m not that keen on the colours. You looked lovely in your final reveal, the eye make up looked amazing and the lip colour is definitely your colour. I didn’t hate the pink blusher on you but I think I prefer your usual one.
Same! Though ironically I'm wearing the palette today, I think it's the packaging that's the standout in this line. The lip shades were totally not for me but I think I might do what another suggested and try them as a blush. Ya, the eyeliners were the least interesting to me. I don't feel safe putting them on my face. So, because I don't want them to go to waste, I'm going to use them when I write thank you notes and want to put a little doodle in there, hehe I think I prefer my usual blush as well! Thank you!!!
If you look at the website it specifically states over 90% of their products are vegan! It says it at the bottom of the page where it lists it is cruelty free, vegan and all the other things.
Right but that doesn’t fix the issue that they list a non-vegan ingredient. So that leaves me knowing one of the two is wrong, but not knowing which one. And they have done that on multiple products. You can’t call something vegan but have a non-vegan ingredient list in it. 🤷♀️
@LoveLumos I did some more digging and when you pull the product up to look at for purchase click on the about. It says it is cruelty free but nothing else. However if you pull up a product that is also vegan it states that in the same place. So I get that you prefer vegan however they do let you know if it is vegan or not. I know most of the items in harry potter are and you have to see which ones aren't so you can try products on. I wish they made it easier but that is the best I can do to help you with finding answers on the site.
Thats insane! I cant get over “not intended for eye area.” Please do an update if they reach back out. Im not on the discord because im trying to do less time on electronics. im strictly youtube and instagram but id live to stay i formed on this. That happee birthdae harry compact is adorable 💜 i also like cream blush, dry “matte” makeup can be aging in my opinion. Im pushing 40..dewy makeup is best lol
I did learn a bit more, from others in the comments, about the 'not intended for the eye area.' I think it would have helped me if they said why but maybe they're not allowed to. And I totally get that. I'm not on Instagram for that reason. I prefer Discord because there's no algorithm and is community focused. So I totally get keeping it minimal. So far, still no word from them on any of it. And I agree! I forgot to mention that but I also feel like powders can be aging. I did test it again today but with a bit of lip balm and that, I think helped it feel more natural.
I feel bad recommending something that wasn’t vegan :( All brands have to call it pigment palettes, because of FDA regulations. It’s just FDA that are outdated. It’s common practice if you want to sell in the US. ‘Pigment palette’ is often used when vegan reds are included, as it can stain the eyelid and they can’t say it is an eyeshadow. But you can use it - it’s pure regulatory.
Don't feel bad at all! And it's possible it still is. I'm still waiting to hear from Sheglam on the highlighter and why that ingredient is listed. I am suspecting, at this point, to hear nothing. I still feel it is vegan, just don't feel comfortable with that listed, but that's not on you, that's on them. And thank you for sharing that! Between you and a handful of others sharing, I felt safe to use those two colors and tried them on in a vlog recorded today. 😊
It’s very common in indie makeup to say not intended for eye area. More so due to staining and not allergies. But a lot of the time the same products would be labeled safe for eyes in other countries. That said, I don’t think I’d trust anything from she glam on my face LoL
That's what I'm seeing from a lot in the comments. Thank you for sharing! Ya, I feel really mixed on Sheglam. I'm so used to wearing clean products on my face.
Thank you for bringing up the vegan thing! I'm vegan and this situation would have made me really upset if I accidentally bought a non-vegan product. I did order some products in this line, but not the highlighter. You said you weren't a vegan channel but the fact that you care about the ethics of a company is appreciated
Thank you do much for saying that. ❤️ I’ve been vegan for a long time and ethics matter to me. ❤ I don’t know if you saw the community post update, but sheglam has since updated their website to removing the vegan label. So clearly we made change, but they have taken accountability. I won’t be buying from them again.
😂😂😂 loved this review. “Not intended for the eye area”… 🧐 maybe they mean not to use it close to the tear duct area? In any case, they shouldn’t be adding anything in an eyeshadow pallet that can cause some sort of eye irritation. Thats so dangerous, many people don’t read the fine print (like me 😅). And I don’t even want to get too much into the whole vegan thing, it makes me angry. There is absolutely no excuse for companies to be making these kind of mistakes. Not understanding why it has carmine tho, it was white? 😕 Love that cake blush, so cute!
So, I learned a bit more from the comments section, and reading more beyond that after reading comments, around the eye area description. But the vegan aspect upsets me too. I still haven't heard back. It's just not okay to label things vegan but have non-vegan ingredients in them. I legit don't think they are using carmine in a gold product but I don't feel comfortable using it, without knowing. And thank you!!! I'm might try more of a pinky color to test it out some more. I still prefer a cream blush but I did try testing it with my chapstick (which I'll often use on my cheeks).
Lol 😂 Great question!! I just looked at it and wondered how the heck I didn't see that but I also get slightly thrown by having a camera in my face. Nice catch! Alas, that's the kind of quality control & detail I find lacking. Thanks for pointing that out.
I love their packaging sooo much, but the non-vegan vegan products and the unsave for the eye "shadows" or the application/pigmentation are huuuge no-nos. If they sell this in Germany there would be cases for the Verbraucherschutz! What a hot mess of products.
I have learned more about the eyeshadows from other comments but labeling things vegan and having non-vegan ingredients in the list is not cool. They are a bit of a hot mess and I really wanted to share my honest thoughts. And so far, customer service, ... not so great. I've not heard a word other then 'we'll get back to you.'
@LoveLumos I am very thankful that you do honest reviews. These informations are very important and you still managed to make it a very fun video. Very nice :D

See my update in the community section. It is indeed, not vegan but they weren't the ones to own up to it.
@@LoveLumos thanks 👍
@@LoveLumos i will use it cos i already bought it but i dont trust them ,so i will not buy sheglam in the future 👎
Agreed! See my update today, as they 'responded' but also quietly removed the vegan label from their website.
