Loving all your blacksmithing videos that beginners should be able to do. It's giving me the confidence to start trying one of these for myself. Thanks for the videos!
Chandler, you should try a super quench. If you add soap and salt to your water, you'll have less steam around the steel, and it cools faster, getting more martensite out of your steel.
To get 3 60 degree angles (30 measured on the back) to come together you'd have to have 3 equal lengths. With a 9, 10, 11 your angles would be approximately 59, 70.5, and 50.5
Good job. I’ve been working on one for my sister in law. I’m making it out of 5/16 round stock. I literally spent all afternoon trying to get the bends right so I ended up making a jig but I’m gonna have to remake that I made all the sides equal length.
Nice and simple hopefully money in the pocket item. An easy tart up of the triangle itself might be to have the opening at the top and a taper with a small scroll coming off the longer bar for the tie on?
I'm making 12 inch dinner bells from cast aluminum alloys. They swing by pulling a cord. My bells are 12 inches wide at bottom. I have my own foundry here at home.
Hey Chandler Great job I just made a couple dinner bells the angles are not 60×3 because of different lengths of each side and the roughly 1/2" space on your 9 " side , I also twisted the sides in my picket twister leaving a 2" untwisted space for my bends I think because of the twist in each side it kind of compresses the steel which gives it really nice tone , and looks really good I also twisted my ringer striker, Naturally you can ask more for it because the twist add more work I'll be putting out a video soon of the twisted dinner bell ringer and striker ,If you dont mind what do you charge for a complete ringer and striker. ..again great job
see iv made bunches of these dinner or chuck bells and iv allays preferred a simple round clapper aka striker i hang the triangle from 2 interlocked rings so it can hang from a nail on a porch and the clapper has a simple eye to hang from a nail on a upright post near the triangle iv given away 5 or 6 dozen at least usually takes 10 min to bang 1 out as for the stock for triangle have used square and round and re-bar you name it even made 1 from SS 1 time by request
i know you most likely get asked this all the time , but do you think you could ever teach someone how to blacksmith? im a welder by trade but blacksmithing is something i have always wanted to try my hand please let me know!
You and I have the same post vise. However, mine is missing the spring to open the jaws. I would like to commission you to forge one for me if you have the time. Thank you
What are your thoughts about an “O” shaped dinner bell? Our good friend has just about everything a man could need or want, but he doesn’t have a dinner bell and his last name starts with “O.”
It’s only when all sides are equal that all angles are 60°. A bit of math and the Law of Sines (A sin a = B sin b = C sin c) ought to give you the angles you actually need.
Chandler sure is a coool cat!! Love watching your videos !! Always learn something !
Loving all your blacksmithing videos that beginners should be able to do. It's giving me the confidence to start trying one of these for myself. Thanks for the videos!
I'm really glad you made a video like this for myself personally as a beginner it's something I can aspire to make myself! thankyou
I like the tone from the unequal sides also. Sounds great.

I am impressed...sweet tone!

You should do a live stream of one of your shows. Very good video as always!
Really cool!!! Thanks!!!
Nice job!

Shoulder, bicep, elbow, arm
Forearm, thumb, wrist, knuckle, palm
Middle, pinky, index, ring
Dinner bell, dinner bell, ding!
hahaha
is this how long u ring it for ?
Yeah I hear you about e tongs. It seems that every project needs a new pair of tongs. And the thing is, tongs are such a pain to make.
always bringin' good stuff =D
great video
you said "great seller"... how about a link as to where I can purchase one.
I know this video is over.a year old so I was wondering if turn out to be a good seller for you? I like your videos and experimentation.
How did you do at the craft show? Hope you sold out of your inventory. Looking forward to the next live stream.
NIce job
say do you have a video on what to look for when buying a anvil?
Nice!
Lovely video, thank you. You did not say how long the stock was you made the striker out of. It looks about 26 inches to me??
great job what would be a price on a complete bell and ringer ?
Chandler do u use linseed oil to put a finish on your work it goes on the same way
quote of the week "i dont have alot of experience making balls"
I am giving it to a good friend that goes camping with me
Chandler Great job well done Can you please tell me where you buy your wax from
how can I purchase a 9"10"11" carbon steel dinner bell with a striker that is waxed treated?
Would love to have a real blacksmith made triangle your square stock item is ideal the one you are working on....
see iv made bunches of these dinner or chuck bells and iv allays preferred a simple round clapper aka striker i hang the triangle from 2 interlocked rings so it can hang from a nail on a porch and the clapper has a simple eye to hang from a nail on a upright post near the triangle iv given away 5 or 6 dozen at least usually takes 10 min to bang 1 out as for the stock for triangle have used square and round and re-bar you name it even made 1 from SS 1 time by request
I think you should add a twist to one of the ends of the triangle and see if that add a different tone
That's a good idea!.. now I'm curious!
+Fearless Talas right! I don't think the sound would change to much but it would also add a little flair to a simple design
+jak1259 maybe chandler will read your post and try it out!
+Fearless Talas that would be cool
I agree!
i know you most likely get asked this all the time , but do you think you could ever teach someone how to blacksmith? im a welder by trade but blacksmithing is something i have always wanted to try my hand please let me know!
would decorative twists mess with the 3 different tones?
sorry to ask here but just curious how that 55lb harbor freight anvil faired is it an ok starter anvil
the Reason is that a sixty degree angle suggests the same length sides with different length side you need different angles
You and I have the same post vise. However, mine is missing the spring to open the jaws. I would like to commission you to forge one for me if you have the time. Thank you
you finally got new gloves, lol
How much for these and do you sell them online? Kinda like your version over the ones from China they sell at my local hardware store.
Nice Chandler! I bet you sell out of your first run at the Memorial Day show. Hit me up with an email when you're ready. -GF
mark the angle on you vice that way you don't have to step away to check
Havent you learned yet chandler? "When in doubt, make a jig!" Lol
Where do you get your steel? Online?
The reason why the ends didn't line up is that to have all 60 degrees angle you need to have the same length on all the sides.
With different length sides, the angles will not be equal.
where do get the massive blocks of beeswax?
What are your thoughts about an “O” shaped dinner bell? Our good friend has just about everything a man could need or want, but he doesn’t have a dinner bell and his last name starts with “O.”
It’s only when all sides are equal that all angles are 60°. A bit of math and the Law of Sines (A sin a = B sin b = C sin c) ought to give you the angles you actually need.
Or you could let www.calculator.net/triangle-calculator.html do the math for you: 50°, 60°, & 70° are probably accurate enough.

heh i saw you in baldwinsville today
Why not use a blowtorch for the bend?
