I started doing this on a small antique table but gave up because I couldn’t make or see a pattern. They made it look so easy. There are so many shades of bronze!
two things:
All money that is minted or printed actually is still registered and kept count of, which is why it's illegal to destroy money because it affects the overall worth of that money in general when a few hundred dollars worth of it is sitting on somebody's floor no longer in a state to be used.
- there are rare penny variants much like any coin and it wouldn't surprise me if they accidentally put down several very valuable coins without realizing it.
I was looking for another comment that mentioned it’s illegal to do this with money.. so many people are contributing to the United States losing its worth in so many ways.. this is one
I agree with you, I felt sick when I saw this. I disliked!
Same thoughts. From what I know it is illegal to keep coins still in circulation for a long time as the government has to create more because they are gone, only to find out they are on someone's house, made into a floor.
@@user-om6xs1uw4kI disliked also! 🙄

They truly have an awesome cents of humor! It turned out beautifully, offering a refreshing change from the mundane and predictable. I love it!🥰♥️😁
how is this in a way "senseful"? unless they're planning to cover it with something that's gonna retain a lot of dirt and grime
and also its such a waste of money when they could buy a floor for cheaper
@@individual1st648 Creativity is subjective, and we all have diverse and different tastes. My comment was intended to be light-hearted, full of puns, while also recognizing the dedication of those who invested their time in creating something unique, rather than opting for a conventional, cheaper flooring installation.
Regarding your points, the “cents into sense” phrase was a play on words, highlighting the creative use of pennies. As for the concern about dirt and grime, proper sealing and maintenance can address that issue. And while it may seem like a splurge, for some, the investment in a unique, handmade floor adds value beyond just cost. In the future, this distinctive floor could become a selling point for the property, capturing the interest of particular buyers seeking something truly unique. But I appreciate your perspective and respect the difference of opinion.😊

224 pennies per square foot. Example 5x8 room = $89.60
Wow that’s cheap.
Hard to find pennies now
Thanks for the math!👍👍
That is just for the pennies. Depending on the brand and amount needed for the project, the epoxy. the specialty tools, the respirators, special footwear, bunny suits (disposable coveralls),eye protection. If there is no proper ventilation, the fumes from epoxy can be harmful to a persons respiratory system. How do I know. I use to work in the tile setting industry. I have used epoxy based grout and sealers. We had to wear full protection gear to keep us safe from the fumes, splashes that got on our skin and to keep our eyes safe. The fumes coat the lungs. The loopier you feel, the higher the chance the epoxy coated fumes were getting into your lungs and sealing your air ways. Keep in mind that products like epoxy can be absorbed through your skin, where they accumulate in your excretory system. Like your liver and kidneys.
Wow it looks beautiful 👍
Oh my gosh I'm going nuts over how beautifully done this was and how some of them are heads up and heads down. Like I couldn't do it they'd all have to be facing one way or the other.

Otherwise I couldn’t stand it and I’d have to rip up the whole floor and redo it 🙇♀️

My older sister's brother-in-law owned a restaurant in York PA where I live, called San Carlos. The bar in his restaurant and the bar in his home had pennies all over the top of the bar. Beautiful! For those tripping about them taking pennies out of circulation, calm down. People take pennies out of circulation everyday just by saving in a piggy bank at home. My grandpa saved pennies for 50yrs. Chill out people!
Yes sir !😂😂😂😂
Except thus is technically defacing of federal currency
The difference is, we are not defacing them in the process
The government is planning to eliminate pennies any day now, anyway. They want to go to an all digital currency. A cash-less society.
@@Antreus defacing lol....
Who else might be wondering if it's legal to take those pennies out of circulation?
Actually, it’s a federal crime to deface money, glue together, etc. with the intent to make it not reissued as payment for debts of any kind. A flooring is intent. Section 333 code

I did this to a table top. I used a bunch of pennies that my late grandmother had saved. I could imagine spending or parting with something she had.
This is why change is becoming rare
I thought defacing money was a crime. And to use money like that I’m sure the government could find some reason to call that illegal. But I will admit it looks pretty cool. The point is you’ve taken the money out of circulation and I hope you check the dates on those pennies you might’ve glued down a few million dollars.
It’s not illegal. You take money out of circulation by saving it. It’s not defaced .
It appears so...
The specific federal laws at issue are 18 USC 331 & 333as stated below:
Specifically re coins:
Section 331 of Title 18 of the United States Code reads: “Whoever fraudulently alters, defaces, mutilates, impairs, diminishes, falsifies, scales or lightens any of the coins coined at the mints of the United States, or any foreign coins which are by law made current or are in actual use or circulation as money within the United States; or whoever fraudulently possesses, passes, utters, publishes, or sells, or attempts to pass, utter, publish, or sell, or brings into the United States, any such coin, knowing the same to be altered, defaced, mutilated, impaired, diminished, falsified, scaled or lightened - shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.”
The key word now appears to be “fraudulently,” as the U.S. Mint website at www.usmint.gov makes clear in the following statement:
“Section 331 of Title 18 of the United States code provides criminal penalties for anyone who ‘fraudulently alters, defaces, mutilates impairs, diminishes, falsifies, scales, or lightens any of the coins coined at the Mints of the United States.’ This statute means that you may be violating the law if you change the appearance of the coin and fraudulently represent it to be other than the altered coin that it is. As a matter of policy, the U.S. Mint does not promote coloring, plating or altering U.S. coinage: however, there are no sanctions against such activity absent fraudulent intent.”
Re Notes etc-
Title 18, Section 333 of the United States Code:
“Whoever mutilates, cuts, defaces, disfigures, or perforates, or unites or cements together or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, or Federal Reserve bank, or the Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt unfit to be reissued, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.”
Up to $100 fine per bill and 6 months prison time. Interestingly, for coins the prison time can be up to 5 years.
A year? Banks are pleading for change. Maybe because we’re holding onto things that are real in case our money goes digital.
They don't want pennies. Most pennies cost more to make than they're worth.
Where I live not even banks want to deal with change. (Not saying it is a good thing)
If our money were to go completely digital then physical cash/change would be worthless, except to collectors. The department of the Treasury loves for people to collect coins and take them out of circulation because they are already printing more than what is backed by anything. That's why they print "collectable coins" like the state quarters ("America the Beautiful" quarters)
As a human who works hard to earn, this hurts. Every penny counts.
That shows good cents. They’ll never be penniless.
Beautiful ❤thanks for sharing

That's what I was thinking too. Or maybe their coins lose its value and integrity.
Section 331 of Title 18 of the United States code provides criminal penalties for anyone who fraudulently alters, defaces, mutilates impairs, diminishes, falsifies, scales, or lightens any of the coins coined at the Mints of the United States.
Coins and bills are literally lost every day. I am quite certain it's not illegal. But it is wasteful and arrogant to use it this way.
Awesome idea! I am impressed by their use of oxidized pennies next to newer unoxidized ones to create the design.

It's a wide (and wise) superstition to not disrespect/destroy money, no matter how small the denomination. But in this case, one could rationalize that the coins are being exchanged for goods (their intention) i.e. materials for a decorative floor treatment.
Cheaper to use the Pennies, than to buy the flooring. And it looks pretty awesome too!

I always thought it was a Federal crime to "mutilate" money. Probably one of those urban legends... Looks great!
Saw this on "Restoring Galveston". They used it for a bathroom floor.
Isn't this illegal?
I thought it was illegal!!😮
No, defacing money is illegal, as it's straight up destruction of currency, in this case they're not defacing it, if anything they're preserving it by coating it with resin, and if it was really necessary, it could be retrieved.
I just did some (probably bad) math, but I think it takes about 22 pennies to cover a square foot (rounding up). .22 cents a square is pretty cheap as far as flooring is concerned. The epoxy is probably way more expensive then to value of the pennies. So the irony of this is, it's a pretty cheap and cool-looking alternative flooring solution.
I do wonder if they accidentally put in some rare/valuable coins. Because that definitely skews the value if they did. Even just a few wheat pennies would offset that cost quite a bit.
Beautiful work! ❤🌹
