  • Today on Booze On The Rocks I show you How To Make The Perfect Gin and Tonic. The Gin and Tonic has been around for ages. It was popularized in Northa America in 1939 by the Canada Dry Company, Before that it was popular in Europe and India.
    It began its career thanks to Dr. George Cleghorn and his research into the Cinchoa tree in south America. Its bark contains alkaline compounds such as quinine. Which is used to Fight Malaria. And how do you get a bunch of colonials to take their medicine. Add booze of course!
    Do you have a recipe that you want me to make?

    Nothing better than a well made G&T on a hot day, especially when you don't feel like breaking out all the gear! Thanks David, and congrats on the patreon!

    Great video David. Not sure you can get more classical than Gin and Tonic. At least I consider it the most popular classic drink. 🙂

      I agree its one of the first classics. Depending on where you are from. What is your most favorite classic?

    Absolutely love these and can be so versatile. This summer I have been adding some whole black peppercorns with a dash of lime bitters.

      That would add a just a bit of bite. That sounds really good. I will definitely try that.

    I’ve muddled a lime wheel or two in my G&T days to get a little extra citrus flavor. It works great for a more “summer” G&T.

      A little juice can go a far way. It will either enhance a good gin or hide a bad gin.

    This is my first time ever trying a Gin & Tonic. It was fine. I added a little more simple syrup and now it is at the flavor that I like. Thanks, Dave, and you have a fantastic day!

  • @Cocktailnyymi
    @Cocktailnyymi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah noticing you with the video of a perfect GT is really tricky to begin with, because the gin movement has become larger than life in the past 4-5 years, not to mention the selection of tonics now available instead of just "Schweppes". Both ingredients have their low-tier (bottom shelf), the standardized ok-stuff and then the more expensive high-tier. ALL with their own quirks and perfect serves. Moreover, just like you mention, to each their own when it comes to the preferable gin. What I do love would to have more "abroad" gins to taste, even though there's enough work with the European stuff :D
    I usually (read: pretty much every time) stick to the 1:2 ratio, that is 50ml/100ml gin to tonic.

    • @boozeontherocks
      @boozeontherocks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right. There is so much variation in gin varieties. Local distilleries are starting to pop up all over the place where Ii live. i would love to try some "abroad" gins to try beside the basic London dry styles.
