Eddie was my childhood hero, watched him race at the Milwaukee Mile and always listened to the 500 on the radio broadcast. I'm fortunate enough to have his autograph on a souvenir program.

I still have an autograph he gave my Granddad back in June, 1961.

Thanks for this wonderful video guys. Great tribute to one of my all time favourite race car drivers and colourful characters. I am a motorsport journalist too and bought Denny's book two years ago. It is absolutely wonderful, full of stories and anecdotes, covering the human side perfectly, just like a proper book should be. I strongly recommend it to everyone!!! Thanks Denny

My mom and dad met at Eddies bar/club the "Mod Mill" in Center Valley Pa. ( just south of Allentown Pa.) in 1960. The bar was torn down around 1967 or 1968 to expand Route 309.

Absolutely fascinating guys. Many thanks for this insight into Eddie. That's another book sale Danny! I'm from the UK and have been fascinated by Indy and it's history for many years. I've been fortunate to have attended the 2004 and 2007 races and there's quite simply nowhere like it. Great video!

This is great! I read about Eddie Sachs when I was a kid, in the book "Daredevils of the Speedway" by Ross Olney. The book speculates that he pitted in the '61 Indy 500 with a big lead and worn tires late in the race (thus costing him the race) because he promised he would quit racing if he won. Implying that he could have made the distance on the worn tires at a slower speed still fast enough to win, if he really wanted to. I always wondered if there was any truth to any of that.

Sad story on Eddie and Dave MacDonald. Both were awesome drivers! Eddie was great at Langhorne and Dave the Cobra king!🏆🏁

    Any relation to Robin?

Denny sure does have the memory and the passion that Robin Miller used to grace the Indy faithful for nearly 7 decades. Thank you for this wonderful recounting of one of the most colorful and beloved race drivers in the 106 year history of the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing." RIP to the "Clown Prince of Racing" and "The Poison Pen" (as AJ Foyt called him) Eddie Sachs and Robin Miller.

We knew Robin through IndyCar media and when I worked at the Milwaukee Mile. 20 years or so.

This was the first Indy 500 i watched. My dad took me and my brother to watch on CCTV. My father was very skeptical about using gasoline in the race. Turned out he was right.

He died about 100 feet from where me and my Dad stood.
