Incredible editing! I only collect what I play also which is mostly Master System games. It's indeed nice to make new friends and acquaintances in the community, it's one of the best things about online interactions on TH-cam though I'm mainly a Twitch streamer now. Podcast with you is a great way to chill once a month and talk about our common passion and what's new in our lives. Good times.
Thank you , sir ! Very well said! The way this hobby brings people together can’t be understated. Absolutely! I like how our podcast doesn’t feel like a regular podcast but just feels like two good friends having a check in, and chatting about video games. Thanks again, brother!
Haha , thank you ! Yeah, those belong to my wife. Man, retro hunters, that’s a name I haven’t heard in a hot minute . I’ve been subscribed to you I think as far back as when the guys at retro liberty said you were an inspiration to them starting their channel. Time moves by so fast .
@@PKInTheUniverse Yes indeed my friend! I rebooted the channel in the last couple of years and just trying some new stuff! But this video was recommended to me and I'm glad it was, great stuff! Also, don't sleep on GG... I love that show and Luke Danes is my spirit animal 🤣
Now that I think about it, I do seem to remember you started to upload again a couple years ago . I know that feeling of trying new stuff I feel like I’ve never been able to stick to just one specific thing and run with it without getting totally burned out . I might take another look at GG.
Great video. I think it's important to really reflect on why we collect things. Are we just filling a void in our lives with stuff or do we genuinely enjoy the things we collect? I have been working on slimming down the collection because it's clear that I'm just putting stuff on display to look at instead of playing so it's better to just let someone else enjoy it. We'll have to get together again man. It's been too long!
Thanks man ! It’s liberating pairing down the collection and prioritizing games you really want to play. Absolutely! Definitely in the next month or so before the weather gets to cold out .
I got trapped ! the numbering on Evercade is ...well like an obsession to me ! i am sad , yet i still will play the good stuff ! excellent video as always !
Great video PK and definitely one of your best :-) Before retro collecting was really a mainstream thing I had a very comprehensive retro collection with pretty much every console up to and including the Dreamcast and a ton of physical games. I hit a rocky patch in my life around that time and boxed up the whole collection on the equivalent of three pallets and sold the lot for just under £400. Do I regret it, not at all. It made me realise that it's all just stuff and can pretty much be replaced if you want to. I built my collection back up but more modestly and have purchased mainly digitally since the Xbox 360/PS3 days. I have more games than I could ever play, but I do play them and they're always there, ready to play on my console of choice. Most important things for me when it comes to retro gaming is just to collect the way you want to collect, play the way you want to play and be part of a community that you're comfortable in, make sure to contribute and last of all, it's nice to be nice :-) Keep on gaming PK!
Thanks man , I appreciate it ! Absolutely! At the end of the day, it’s just stuff. It’s incredible how many people we’ve been fortunate enough to chat with through this hobby over the years. We learn so much from others.
Great video PK! There was no way I could find or fit many of the best loved arcade machines from the 80's and 90's in my house, so I did the next best thing... I grabbed them for different computers, consoles and handhelds and amazingly they all fit in one room. 😉👍
Space for sure! I have to consider every purchase now lol I do wish I could bring myself to get disc games without a manual and don't pretend I hate it lol
Yeah, for me, it’s not even that I don’t have the space, it’s how can I store it in a meaningful way where I will see it , and I really want this particular game whatever that may be taking up that space.
The editing on this is amazing, man, or should I say Batman. I know it was a lot of work, but this is one of your best videos for sure! Giving you comments for the algo 🤙
Yeah, this was a lot of work but was a ton of fun. I think I’m gonna go as Batman for Halloween this year. At some point, I need to do a proper Batman game review. Thanks again man , I greatly appreciate it. 🤘
At one point... I had a pretty good collection of the old 8 bit systems (pre NES). This was definitely a case of what seemed good back in the day doesn't hold my attention that much. I wish I had listened to that advice. I sold all of that stuff off awhile ago. In fact, outside of the 3DS, Switch, and Vita, I've stopped collecting cartridges. I am mostly focused on JRPGs from the PS One era onward... good advice for some may be to have a focus.
10:58 yeah I agree with you about the use of the word retro. I dont know why people started calling them retro and everyone just accepted it. I prefer calling them what they are, which is vintage or classic games.
Yeah, I don’t understand why people have such an aversion to the word “old.” But it’s like a lot of other words in the history of the English language once people start saying it to mean a certain things it’s hard to get people to go back. Maybe they’ll update the definition, who knows.
Definitely true about goldeneye, that game was groundbreaking and fantastic for its time. However, the frame rate and etc. was pretty bad. A n64 FPS such as Turok, doom 64, or the quake games are much more fun nowadays imo
3:00 Condition is always an interesting topic to me... I wish I had taken better care of my stuff. As a kid, I threw out all my GBA boxes and such and just kept the cartridge. I wish I had valued that and/or that my parents got on me about that. I value packaging so much more now. At the same time, even nowadays I will gladly pay a lot less for a "Greatest Hits" red spine PS3 game over the standard blue.
One thing o wish i had taken into account when i started collecting is making sure you have enough space in your house , my stuff is in storage simply because i don't have the space in my new house it sucks.
Yeah, it’s so frustrating. Having all this stuff to deal with. I’ve had to make some really hard decisions about my collection and deciding what is really priority. I make a little rules for myself like if I can’t fit all the games on this shelf or fit all the games in this drawer maybe it’s time to part with some games. And that’s really helped me a lot.
My favorite part about the classic gaming community, is not the gaming, but the community. There have been many friends I have met through this hobby both in person and on the internet. When it comes to condition, as long as I have the game I am fine. With disc games I have to have at least some protective case for them. If a disc is scratched I am not okay with it. I am not sure about the playable condition of every game in my collection. Some games work sometimes, some games not work sometimes, some games don't work at all, some games work every time. I have had a few hardware issues, mainly related to disc-based systems that have issues loading games. The older systems somehow almost always function. I don't play every game in my collection. Why would I play through all of these NFL games for the Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, and Genesis? I have not been collection much and most of the games I have bought recently are games that I actually wanted to play, not just have sitting in my collection. I have gotten better with storage. I used to be very disorganized with my collection but I finally at least got to a point where most of the games are with the other games with their systems and are mostly in alphabetical order. Play games because they are fun. Collect because it is fun. Make new friends because it is fun.
Retro gaming community Strong 💪! Might be worth checking out some of those old sports games. Jack and I have been playing Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball, that game rocks! It’s always nice when you can get all your games in the same place together. It’s fun to interact with people with similar interests for sure. Thanks friend ! 🤝
I never cared about the condition of NES, SNES, and Genesis games. For some reason, I want PS1, PS2, and Dreamcast games in the original case and with the manual.
I don’t think analogue is a secret at all. They’ve been making stuff for years. They even teased this in n64 a year ago. There are so many different ways to play in n64 games.
@@PKInTheUniverse I never knew about em til now. I would ask game x change workers if there would be any release of an n64 mini, like the nes and snes. here is the thing, paper mario on the GC isn't that hard to get running on dolphin and even that if you already own a GameCube which they are cheap trust you can find the black silver or purples way too many of em around, slap a SD card adapter from ali express which there are a lot of for cheap, and put any game on that and it works hell I'm playing Mario thousand year door on it that way. so no its not the scarcity trust and believe the supply demand retro pipeline has been proven to be fake its just one or 3 dudes buying exorbent amount of copies of one game that they deem a classic and holding it in storage and making an artificial demand satastic or a fake scarcity, these things are everywhere just like a Mario 3 or Mario 1 cart, they also been tryna do it with games like wii sports if you watch those resell channels, like phenix resell, its all out there they ain't hiding how they are manipulating the supply and demand statistic
I appreciate your conspiracy theory, but it’s not quite that simple. Sure, anyone can emulate, but that’s not what collectors are looking for. The scarcity isn’t just ‘one or three dudes’ hoarding games. There are real factors like print numbers and increased interest over the years. Not everything boils down to some underground reseller mafia manipulating the market. Maybe try looking beyond the emulation scene to understand why people collect video games.

I did try it. I didn’t really like it. I’d rather just emulate if I’m gonna play it.

That’s so on brand of them.

Retro games to our generation is kinda like baseball cards to the generations before us.
I didn't realize they made Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon on physical. Great game.
