@@vintagemagic Doesn't matter if it was damaged. You were not careful in taking it out and you didn't ask for permission. You can tell he wasn't pleased either (as many wouldn't) as at 6:52 he explicitly asks you to flip the page to see the duplicate Mox. I'm not hating, I'm just suggesting you to avoid this in the future. He may have indeed not minded, or he felt uneasy to do so during a recording. Either way, I promise you that many people would be annoyed if you did something like this with their cards.

I took a hiatus from MTG as well but I was using my money on a bad addiction now that i'm clean I've picked up mtg again. I love the art work equally to the game itself. I just hope I can get some signatures on some of my cards.

Ante cards were printed as late as Homelands. There was ante in Ice Age. So it was in until '95.

To answer the question, I used to get online and read the price lists that were passed around and posted to FIDOnet and Usenet (which for some stupid reason, nobody saved a copy of, and so all of FIDOnet and all of Usenet before like '98 are gone forever). I remember reading a price list that put the price of an Alpha Black Lotus at $30 in 1995, I think the spring of '95. And you have to understand, this was an obscene, unheardof, unrealistic-sounding number at the time. I remember telling my friends that it was $30 and just people could not imagine someone paying so much for a piece of cardboard. And then I remember in 1997, the price had gone up to $700. I think there was a news story about it somehow, and that's what caused me to go looking for the price around that time.

It was 15 bucks for an unlimited black lotus in 1993 , 50 for a beta or alpha. I remember the card shop had a royal assassin for 12 at the same time. They also had an beta pinned up in a plastic sleeve on a cork bulletin board. My genius self spent 15 bucks on a Wildcats # 2 that day. It’s now worth less than 15 bucks... so lo f’ng L

I actually did pull an 'Amulet of Quoz' from an ice age booster way back in the day and it made references to ante so I think it was still a thing is wizard's mind at that point. Me and my friends played for ante once or twice in the late 90's and stopped doing that real quick lol

So is he actually selling this collection to you or have you got some sort of arrangement just to make videos of the stuff? Either way it's a glorious collection. It might have been a large investment at the time but if it's a 200k collection now I think it's money well spent! Especially when you got to play the game too.

From what I first remember of expensive magiccards is that around 97 (started in 95) is that I bought a NM Beta Underground Sea for 50 Dutch Guilders which was around $20,- at the time. A NM Beta Black Lotus would set you back at about 750 guilders, so $300,- (prices at a LGS)
