In what way is it worse today? I'm not implying North Korea is in any way satisfactory today and even now they seem to have growing food insecurities. But can today really be worse than the famine years in the 90s?

    • @nikomak

@@Melange2Kinda? North Korea has continued to isolate itself since the pandemic. It is true that in some respects life in North Korea is better than in the 1990s, but in terms of food there is no significant improvement. Also the fact that Kim Jong Un is focusing more on developing the army makes the situation even worse.

It's gotten worse over the last 20yrs. Ppl in the capital are starving now. The shops may look full but items are not for sale. Ppl run to the board to China and sell what they can to get $. The humanitarian aid that comes in, the twist N Korea states to it's ppl is these are reparations from the Americans for their imperialism attacks. There is a real problem with ppl smoking that the Govt has put up signs to discourage ppl from smoking even though their Leaders smoke more than a Russian steel mill.

Honestly from reports it appears to be worse. Malnutrition and lack of basic needs are the same as they've always been, but now due to increases in border technology the people are 100% locked inside with no way out. Defection has become physically impossible. Also, due to this lockdown of the border there are no more black markets which has greatly exacerbated the already trifling situation. FREE NORTH KOREA!!!
