What a captivating documentary! My grandmother, a North Korean refugee who fled during the Korean War, found love and refuge in the arms of my grandfather, a black soldier. Their union defied all odds, resulting in the birth of my mother. Against all expectations, here I stand today, a testament to the resilience and strength of my ancestors.

The documentaries are produced by some other media entities. And FD is acquiring the rights to them, one by one. So they upload it one by one. What is not right about this? Are they supposed to pay for the documentaries then keep it to themselves??

I don't think you understand the point. In TH-cam it shows a new documentary was uploaded, so this makes people think is a brand new documentary with the new content, not an old documentary that was already uploaded in the past. I believe they do it to play around with the algorithms.

An ex-tour guide from NK once said (in the talk show that was featured in this documentary) that they have set places they take the tourists to (decided by the government) and those places and the ppl are all prepared prior to the tourists' arrival. Anyone who may come in contact with "outsiders" are trained as to what to say to the tourists. There are consequences if a local person says the wrong thing to an outsider. If any conversation occurs that was not monitored by the tour guide or officials, a police will pull the local person aside afterwards and ask detailed questions as to exactly what the "outsider" has asked/said and exactly what the local person has said in response. One has to make sure you don't say the wrong thing to an outsider, if you don't wanna suffer the consequences. So some ppl try to avoid when a foreigner approaches in their direction, so as to avoid talking to any foreigner.
So that's why I can't trust anything the locals say in NK, when a visitor asks them a question.

This is a fascinating point. It’s something I have never considered. There’s obviously a reason they choose not to show any cemeteries. Perhaps there are no cemeteries as such? Maybe they are just buried in an undignified manner, especially during times like the great famine, where death was rampant and unavoidable.

It feels sooooo fake and set up. The uncanny valley feeling is everywhere, it just never ends. People look like they are just 'there' without any real purpose or a destination it feels like, like a certain amount of people are just told to go from point A to B for the cameras. Like this one for example 10:09, fully seated drop ride but no one at the entrance/bottom? 14:23, a totally empty bus line in the city even if it's at night? 19:54, yeah, even before Korea was divided the Kims weren't exactly the rulers like they are now are they? They try so hard to make it look so perfect that it becomes 'soulless'. It's haunting and quite scary to be honest.

Excellent pairing of documentaries juxtaposing the North and South. As someone from the US, it always boggles my mind to see how insular and isolated the North is, as well as how everything revolves around the leaders and the state. It was crazy how the woman had the more privileged life there still didn't know where Thailand was on the map.
