I have run out of accolades to say how fantastic your paintings are, The composition colours are just great, Thank you so much for your time. Miss davidson, Bob.
I LOVE this painting! I am truly a beginner having only tried one of your beginner's easy Hake tutorials. I had never even seen a Hake brush before that and found it so exciting to use. I plan to try this one in the next few minutes. Your comments about not worrying if the first try is awful and just keep practicing really hit home. Thank you for sharing your techniques and for your really encouraging and well explained tutorials.
Lois you are right, you do need to keep at it. Finally (apart from some average banks !) I've produced a painting I'm quite proud of and have framed it ready to give to my son later this month. Many thanks again for all your valued tuition.
I have never had the confidence to try watercolor; however your tutorials inspire me.. I am going to try the very simple quiet ones. I Love the edge of water with simple figures.
Oh Miss Lois this is favorite that you’ve done ! I started watching your videos a few times and then getting the supplies together and doing them “with” you ! Thank you for bringing that joy and confidence to me ! Can’t wait to do this one with you tomorrow morning!
Absolutely LOVE this. I've just taken up painting again after a 30 year gap, Ron was my inspiration back then and its great to see his legacy lives on in your beautiful work. Thanks so much for your tutorials, they are the best! ❤
Thanks Lois :) this was actually the first time i painted along with a video. What i learned was that it would have beem a better result had i not used my practice paper. Confidence gained nevertheless. 👍
I was scrolling through "watercolor forest tutorial" results and came across this video. It made me check your channel out and I just love your style! You create some beautiful pieces Ms Davidson, thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this beautiful painting and happy New Year! I had been trying this one for weeks ... and you were absolutely right! It takes time to understand the water, the paint, the light and to get some indications of banks and trees. And today it was the first time, that I was pleased with what I achieved. :-) Thank you, Lois ... I am learning so much from you! You are a great tutor!
Hi again Lois ...........from Canada . Another lovely picture. I also think that you should record your voice reading a book because you have such a lovely soft, calm tone to your speaking, I could just fall asleep to it. Great Job !!!!!!!!!! Merv
Dear Lois, this is a lovely painting.. I’ve done 4 versions but I find the reflections so difficult, the misty woodland was ok but the river is the stumbling block!
Thanks Lois. Lovely light. I think I'll try and adapt this tutorial (rather than follow it) to a reference photo of mine. Hopefully I might learn something. Just one question: your paper seems to keep its dampness even when you added wide strokes in the sky on the left and as you kept adding trees with the rigger. Do you ever have the nasty surprise that your paper has dried too much? Do you spray it in that case?
Your teaching is Phantastic.. I became a fan after seeing only some of your great demos .. I am fascinated from this landscape .. already did three attempts..only low success.. for me the essential topic is about water management .. one of the basic influences on the outcome is the amount of water involved on the paper and on the brush - may be you could explain this in more detail - thank you cheers Jörg
This is a beautiful demonstration video and very helpful for a beginner like me... I learnt so much through this first painting and have subscribed! , your steady and important guidance through the painting makes it not only interesting and engaging to watch but a delightful learning experience, thank you for sharing 🙏🏼🌸🌺🌼
Lovely painting, great techniques! It would be very helpful if, in the future, you could darken your pencil lines so the viewer could see your guidelines. Thank you, Lois!
Many thanks, sadly I can't do that as then the pencil lines would show too much through the transparent watercolour. I'm afraid the line drawings don't show up well on film, it's just one of those things :-)
Hello Lois I liked your painting so much and tried it. You are right, not easy despite how easy it looks in your hands. I found the hardest part was to keep up so the paper did not dry out, despite this I enjoyed doing it with you and just stoped the video as needed. Have a lot to learn managing the hake brush and getting those wonderful white streaks across the water. None the less I like my painting very much and I thank you for it. Do you use several hake brushes each with a different paint and also a clean one? Marguerite Aye
Hi Lois, thank you for sharing this painting, mine turned not too bad but my paper kept drying out very quickly even though I was using Saunders Waterford, and really wet paint, would you suggest wetting the back of the paper as well, thank you 😃 I love all of your paintings, I’ve just discovered your channel recently 😃
wow so pretty, how would you put a little boat in the painting, after it was dry? or would you plan that ahead of time? I watched the beach scene one you did, also very pretty, same question lol, thanks in advance
enjoyed watching you paint this, love the cat interruption. Do you always have your trees tilted instead of vertical? The trees in the back ground the scratched in ones? at the end i wanted that to be the light side of the trees you were painting in darker, lol. My head kept trying to get your brush to follow the lighter scratched in ones with the dark paint. funny how we see things.
Lois: I wasnt sure how to leave a message and I left one in the wrong place. Im wondering what rigger brush you used in this video . I have a couple of riggers but dont much care for them.

Thanks so much Bob, this one was all down to Ron Ranson's techniques and compositions etc, but he's teaching me a lot! :-)
Thank you Lois. You explain things really clearly - it almost makes it seem possible for us mere mortals when we have a try!
That was magical watching that come together. Thank you.
I have a painting just like that hanging on my studio wall from a workshop I did with Ron Ranson about 15 years ago. He was a clever teacher.
Brilliant demo about simplifying, limited palette, atmospheric perspective and composition!! Thanks again, Lois!!!
Thanks for your feedback Thom, very much appreciated as always! :-)
@@LoisDavidsonArt Very well deserved! Love your humility, too.

Thanks! There is a video from a year or so ago here about controlling the water in the hake that you may find useful
Lois Davidson yeah, thanks .. I could find it
Love it!!
Fantastic demonstration. Is there a reason you do not stretch your paper first. Please continue to delight and inspire us. THANKYOU

Impressive! You're a great artist. What a gift ! Excellent. I paint acrylics but I'm curious about watercolour and I find your paintings fantastic.
Thanks, i hope to try acrylics at some point soon!
Excellent..merci 🌹

I love the way you paint. I would to share what I've learnt from you. However, I'm not sure how to do it.
Thank you. How do I keep my paper so wet throughout the process. Seems mine dries to quickly and then I get hard edges.
wow so pretty, how would you put a little boat in the painting, after it was dry? or would you plan that ahead of time? I watched the beach scene one you did, also very pretty, same question lol, thanks in advance
Julie Sheetz thanks, in both cases I’d plan for the boat before painting and sketch it out roughly first 😊
Thank you so much for a fantastic tutorial! What brand of payne’s are you using?
Thanks, I'm using Cotman paints
Lovely painting! May I ask which brush you used for the branches?
I will have to retrieve my brush my husband uses it to dust off his delicate plants leaves! B Australia

Which rigger are you using? I like the firmness of your brush. Mine are a bit too loose and they don’t seem to hold enough paint.
I think it’s a Daler Rowney Graduate rigger size 2 or 3, I’ve lost it recently and need to get a new one
Thank you beautiful
Question: You seem to use water to begin with but I see no blooms and that’s what happens when I try. How do I keep it from blooming?
How do you keep the paper wet for so long. Do you wet both sides.
Jacquilyn Drake I use cotton paper that stays wet for at least 10 minutes or more, I just wet one side thoroughly 😊🖼
Enjoyed it very much, wat paper do you use? Wat is the size of the paper?
Thank you. This is on Saunders Waterford hot pressed paper I think, 11" x 15"/28 cm x 38 cm
Way don’t you use a cold press paper?
@@batiasenft347 I do most of the time, but sometimes use hot press to make a change. You can use cold press for this!
Hello Lois, can I ask which paper you generally use? Love your tutorials, learning a lot, thank you...😊
Thanks! I use Saunders Waterford cold pressed most of the time, and sometimes their hot press paper, and Millford cold pressed
@@LoisDavidsonArt thanks for that Lois...
J'adorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre
Interesting...
Really like your work! I find your accent and voice very soothing. You mention a Facebook group. What is the group called?
Katz Steel many thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m sorry but the Facebook group is only for Patreon members
Love your work, are you sure you are not Ron reincarnated?
Lois: I wasnt sure how to leave a message and I left one in the wrong place. Im wondering what rigger brush you used in this video . I have a couple of riggers but dont much care for them.
Hi Sam, I'm using a Daler Rowney Graduate rigger here, I think its a size 2 or 3, the numbers have rubbed off

Lovely piece. But who's Ron Ranson? He's got nothing on you, Lois!!
A little bit dark for me
This one was to difficult for me, wasted 3 sheets of paper and it's knocked my confidence 😔 hard to see where it goes wrong. painting is irritating 🙄

Love this !
Awesome!
