This actually happened to me in all seriousness when flew with Spirit airlines years ago! Cancelation and no food or drink in the midnight layover and then refused to give me a cookie or water because it wasn't purchased ignoring that I was victim of their bad planning. I really needed some sugar since I was close to fainting. I explained my situation and circumstances....no attention just a smile and empty promises. No sympathy. No attention.
As an Airline First Officer, myself. I actually found Spirit too troublesome and flew American when I couldn’t use my travel benefits since the planes were always overbooked to maximize profits. I flew Spirit Airlines once… ONCE. Thought I was saving the company money. Wound up not only being about the same, but my seat literally was just cardboard with pleather. My tailbone STILL hurts and it was 8 years ago.
I cancelled a trip with Spirit a few days after making it. I knew there would be a penalty/fee/whatever. The fare was originally $118.
