Are we though? Are "we all living life with the same intensity"? This strikes me as seriously minimizing the fact that some people in this world have much deeper struggles and/or lack of resiliency to stress. There are both innate, biological as well as learned differences in people's resiliency to stress.
How can I sit here and ever say that my simple stressors, like remembering to pay my bills on time are as intense to that of someone who is unhoused and doesn't even have the benefit of having a power bill or rental lease in their name?? I would never.
Sure, we are all experiencing stress, to one degree or another, but this is horrfying to me, that anyone would say that we are all living with the same level of intensity.
What about the millions of people struggling with mental health issues? By its very nature, does this not generally increase the level of intensity of stress? Again, it feels like this quote minimizes people's struggles!! I believe she means to unite us all by recognizing that we all suffer from stress and should therefore talk about it but I would really like to see this be expressed in a different way. This quote is offensive!
I do not think that "we are all going through the same thing, just in different packages" either. Absolutely NOT! What about the fact that just because of the color of my skin, I am gaurenteed to have more priveledges in our society? I walk around with an invisible purse of priveledges because of my whiteness. That is not just an example of a "different package", Our different packages create all kinds of intersecting stigmas/ prejudices vs. Entitlements (which is totally unexceptable, to be clear). To simplify it in this way, I believe is harmful!
We all are human sure, so we all have very real human struggles but I feel strongly that this was not communicated in a good way by either the host or the guest. I'm sorry, when you have a platform like this, please carefully consider how you share these kinds of ideas.

I'm so sorry that you felt this way and that this message didn't resonate with you in the way that it was intended. I really appreciate the points that you made and the perspective that you shared. The goal of this podcast, and certainly this conversation, is absolutely not to minimize anyone's experiences. Rather, it's to focus on the fact that stress and anxiety affect each of us, regardless of whether we "deserve" to feel them or not, or how simple or serious our various situations may be. I will definitely try and clarify more in the future and point out the nuances of that concept. Thanks again for listening and sharing, I hope you'll continue to do so. Sending love!

@@theshiftpod Thank you for such a kind, thoughtful response and apology! I felt strongly that this is not what you intended at all, therefore I wanted to point this out. I really appreciate you respecting my view point. None of us are perfect and perhaps I was harsh in the way I communicated my perspective. I apologize if this was the case, I was particularly sensitive to this quote--I must admit.
Thank you for making the lovely content that you do! Mental health challenges are becoming so prevalent in our society, making talking about it even more important! There are so many 100% preventable deaths every year because of lack of supports. We need to have these kinds of conversations. Thank you for making this possible on this platform.
